Ilocano Asin Sea Salt, Philippines (Retail $15).
Comes inside a handwoven basket from the Philippines.

Not all salt is created equal: this sea salt was harvested from the pure seawaters off the island of Luzon by traditional salt farmers. Unlike highly processed generic table salts, the hollow crystals of this hand-crafted product offer a crunchy texture, while their flakiness melts bright mineral wealth crisp to the tongue into food.

Artisan Story:

Just a dash of salt, and suddenly your  food has so much more to say! A vital mineral for the body, salt adds  the exclamation point to any dish, emphasizing every nuance of flavor.

Yet, as founder of xroads Philippine Sea Salts points out, not all salt is created equal. Known as Ilocano Asin, your new sea salt was harvested from the pure seawaters off the island of Luzon by traditional salt farmers, or asinderos. Unlike highly processed generic table salts, the hollow crystals of this hand-crafted  product offer a crunchy texture, while their flakiness melts bright mineral wealth crisp to the tongue into food.

Leaves of the romblon plant, woven by a network of women weavers on the tiny island of Cabilao, form the durable and eco-friendly box housing your new asin.

  1. Since I do not subscribe to other Globe In boxes, this is a really great box. The green scarf the first month was light and pretty, and the hanging organizer last month from Peru is even better looking in person. I will use it to teach my children about people in other countries. I love the salt this month with the cute little basket. I cook a lot; having good quality salt makes a surprisingly big difference.

  2. Not impressed with this month. I understand using the club as a way to clear out extra stock and as long as that is made clear upfront that’s fine. I also realize that the goal of the box is to support artisans. However, to send us an item that was on the site listed as $7 and now it is listed here as a retail value of $15 seems a bit dishonest.

    • $15 is an inflated price. This salt is listed on the manufacturer’s website for $10.50.

      • Never mind. Upon closer inspection of the picture in the bag, that particular salt is $15 on the manufacturer’s website. We really need a delete or edit buttons for these comments!

  3. They had this salt on sale for 7$ and I’m Disappointed in what we get but I’m all for the cause if I woulda known I was going to get the wall hanger and the salt I would have counseled I’m going to give it one more month and then I probably won’t cancel if it’s something else I’m disappointed in

  4. I hate to be such a downer on the Club subscription (but I will be for a minute again)…I already subscribed to the Artisan box but I eagerly added a full year Club subscription before it became apparent it was going to feature existing products in the store more than “new” original items AND stuck with it since I still want to support the artisans and figured I could just regift any duplicates (I only recently discovered GlobeIn anyways). So far 2 of the 3 items have been items I already have (the scarf was only different to me since it was a color I didn’t have). And this one is actually often offered at a lower price to subscribers than the $10 cost of this box which is how I’ve already gotten it. It’s even an add-on this month at a lower price for Club subscribers! At least I, or a friend, can always use salt…and it is good quality in a cute basket. I just really wish this subscription also offered new/unique items as it was originally marketed to do occasionally and it was a bit of a better value this month. I still love GlobeIn and the cause, though!!!

  5. I missed out on the Nov organizer due a PayPal billing error. Looking forward to the Dec box.

  6. Ooo, I like. I really enjoyed the first month’s wall organizer. Great choice for 2nd month. I cancelled two $10 subs (yummy bazaar sampler and mini box of awesomeness) and added this one. Leaves me room for another $10 box. 😉
