I was excited to try this box and when I saw that the theme was Through The Wardrobe, I loved it! I really loved the Chronicles of Narnia series when I was a kid and it definitely gives off a wintry, magical vibe.
Always Winter - OCD Hand Sanitizer
To be honest, scented hand sanitizers aren’t really my thing. I love using hand sanitizer but it always smells overwhelmingly sharp to me. That’s just the nature of sanitizer so any attempt at masking that scent is appreciated! This scent is described as evergreen fir needles, cinnamon, cranberries, apple curls, and cedarwood. After I get through the initial sanitizing scent, the apple stands out to me. It is a nice apple scent and the glitter is a cute holiday touch.
Sweeties - Fortune Cookie Soap
It wouldn’t be a Fortune Cookie Soap Box without the fortune cookie! This represents Turkish Delight and I think if Edmund had access to this soap he might have calmed down on the sweeties. It looks cute enough to eat and I smell the rosewater more than anything. I had a few cartoonish moments with it flying out of my hands when it was wet because the shape was just unfamiliar to me. Definitely not a complaint, it was just so silly and unexpected.
My fortune said "You doubt your value. Don't run from who you are". This is an Aslan quote from Prince Caspian and a nice, inspiring message inside of your soap!
Lion’s Breath - Perfume Oil
Aslan’s breath is surprisingly awesome! The mixture of fir needles and pomegranate does provide a slightly sweet forest scent. I like this for an everyday, slightly festive scent. This did fade after a few hours so I’m glad it’s in a small rollerball, super easy to keep in my purse!
Deep Magic - Shampoo Bar
Shampoo bars took some time for me to get used to. I have really thick hair so the thought of using a bar was initially unappealing. The suggested use it to wet your hair and then starts scrubbing the bar against your hair and scalp. I followed their suggestion and found that this lathered really well! For how thick and long my hair is, I didn’t use too much of the bar which makes me think this will last way longer than I expected! I love the refreshing mint scent and mixing that with rosemary and garden herbs smells like being in a forest after it’s snowed. Really refreshing!
Hide and Seek - Whipped Soap
The suggested use for whipped soap is as a shaving cream or body wash. I really like this for a body wash because the consistency is really light and fluffy. This really matches the scent description and smells just like cocoa, coffee, and coconut. I like the contrast of a heavier scent with such a light product.
Father Christmas - Whipped Cream
This moisturizer may be mini-sized but it packs a punch! This was definitely the strongest dessert scent out of all the products. It smells like vanilla cupcakes and juniper. Its consistency is like a thick balm but it absorbs into your skin really well. I was surprised at the small amount I needed to use. This seems like it will last me a while and it’s a really festive scent for winter.
Dream of a Dream - Dusting Powder
I like the inclusion of a powder in a soap box. Lotions and bath bombs are always awesome but it’s nice to have a variety of products you can use after a bath or shower. This feels like a nice baby powder with an exfoliating quality. My skin felt really smooth after rubbing this on. The faint hint of lavender, vanilla, musk and patchouli was calming and complimentary to the other scents in the box.
Small Favors - Pedi-Bomb
I’ve never used a Pedi-Bomb before but it’s basically a mini bath bomb for a foot bath. It works the same way, so you just drop it in and it fizzes, then dissolves in the water. The description for this was warm honey, citrus slices, and a hint of tobacco pipe. I did smell mostly the sweet and citrusy scent. The faint hint of tobacco was there but just barely. I really liked the mixture of the scents.
Verdict: I loved the Narnia-inspired theme and was really pleased with the variety of products in this box. I think the value of this box more than covers the $19.99 cost. You get a great taste of the types of products they offer and their scent payoff is definitely there. I think Fortune Cookie soaps do really well with the layered scents. It was a nice mix of crisper nature scents and warmer bakery scents. I’ll use every product in this box and there are a few that really stood out. This box does serve as a nice introduction to Fortune Cookie Soap and I’m excited to dive into some full-sized products. While the Winter Box is sold out, they did release a full range of Through the Wardrobe products. My favorite products from this line were the whipped cream, shampoo bar, and whipped soap. I’m excited to see what their Spring Collection theme will be!
