Bulu Box is a monthly fitness and weight loss subscription. The original Bulu Box is focused more on fitness and general health supplements, and they also offer a Weight Loss box that focuses more on diet products.

They have done away with the traditional information card and instead included this card with some discounts and promos on it. I kind of miss the old cards.

There were also some coupons and a wine voucher.

bulu-box-weight-loss-november-2016-baggies

Maskit (3 bags) – Value $1.17

These are bags for disposing of feminine hygiene products. They can be sealed to mask odors and fluids, and they are biodegradable. Although this is a nice idea, I’m not sure I would ever need to buy such a product since something similar is already provided in the ladies’ room at my office building. However, this could be a nice option for someone who travels regularly.

bulu-box-weight-loss-november-2016-dream-water

Dream Water Sleep Powder in Snoozeberry (1 serving) – Value $0.70

This contains melatonin and is supposed to help you get a better night’s sleep. Although I could definitely use more sleep (and better quality sleep), this stuff gives me the weirdest, most vivid dreams, and I usually don’t end up rested. (I’ve sampled it from other boxes a few times before.)

Olly Vibrant Skin in Plump Berry (1 serving) – Value $0.56

These have hyaluronic acid and marine collagen (i.e., extracted from fish). They also have gelatin. So they are most definitely not vegetarian. If you are not a vegetarian and you don’t have allergies (these are processed in a facility that processes pretty much every major allergen), consuming collagen has been shown to be useful in preserving the elasticity of the skin as well as helping the joints.

bulu-box-weight-loss-november-2016-frownies

Frownies Facial Patches (sample) – Value $0.83

I am assuming what I received counts as two patches and have calculated the value accordingly. I do not really have lines around my lips so I can’t use these as intended – they are supposed to train your facial muscles in such a way as to reduce or eliminate those lines. I may test them on my forehead once I make sure I’m not allergic to the adhesive (I have a bad history with bandage adhesives…).

bulu-box-weight-loss-november-2016-smarty-pants

Smarty Pants Adult Probiotic Complete (1 gummy) – Value $0.42

What’s cool about these as probiotics is that 99% of the bacteria survive stomach acid (this is a problem with other probiotics – you can’t establish a colony of good gut bacteria if you kill all of the bacteria off before they reach your gut). However, I was unable to try these because they contain gelatin. (They are free of gluten, dairy, artificial sweeteners, and high fructose corn syrup.)

Maty’s Organic Cough Syrup (2 tsp) – Value $1

This is made with honey and I am going to hang on to it until the next time I get sick. It has a bunch of herbs and also zinc, which may help shorten the duration of a cold, but it does contain any actual drugs such as cough suppressants. This wasn’t in the Bulu Box shop, but you can buy it at Target.

Verdict:  I calculated a value of about $4.68 for the November Bulu Box Weight Loss version. That is below what I paid for the box (I got it for $5 with a coupon) so of course, I’d like to see a higher value.  I’m also a little bummed I couldn't try all the products since I am a vegetarian (although Bulu Box does not promise to cater to dietary restrictions). Don’t forget that you can review the items in your box for points to be used towards merchandise in the Bulu Box shop, which can increase the value of the box a bit if you would regularly buy items from their shop anyway (they have Quest Bars and PB2).

For what it’s worth, I have no idea how most of these items relate to weight loss. If you are going to subscribe to Bulu Box, I’d recommend just picking the regular or weight loss version and not going for both, since there seems to be significant product overlap. I’d also strongly suggest using our MYSUB599 coupon code to bring down the cost of the box.

the probiotic gummies have pectin, not gelatin. they should be vegetarian.

I just realized that. All other Smarty Pants I’ve ever seen had gelatin or fish oil so I guess I assumed. Regardless, I don’t really like for my vitamins to have calories. Two every day for a week is 140 calories. Over the course of a month it is 1200 calories which is more than half a day’s worth of food for me. Little things like that add up.

Oops, I can’t do math. I meant it is 600 calories over the course of a month. Still a significant fraction if you are watching you weight.

Vanessa

I got the same box and was livid. Who puts a Red Bull info card/ad with no can of Red Bull?!? Super upset. Specially now coming back from Black Friday shopping I need that more than ever!!

This box annoys me to no end. I had signed up for a year sub back when they were running a deal to make it super cheap. Even getting it as cheap as I do it’s still not worth it.

The “weight loss” box just has random items in it. It’s just tiny samples and junk.

I definitely won’t be renewing, I wish I could cancel now and get my money back for the rest of my sub period.

I canceled months ago. The products I received didn’t relate to weight loss and didn’t interest me.

Maybe it’s just a coincidence but it seems like lately they have been getting a little stingy with their boxes. I think I’m going to cancel. If it keeps going like this I’m not sure it is worth it.

I think so too. They used to send decent sized samples, protein bars and energy drinks and now it’s all itty-bitty. When I sent an email about the state of the regular box, they responded that perhaps I should switch to the weight loss box. The only difference between the two was mine didn’t have the maskit bags.
