Box of Happies is a monthly subscription box for handmade goods. It’s a great way to discover new Etsy artisans.

Included was an information card listing the items in the box. Also, there was a business card for Box of Happies.

Box of Happies Necklace – Listed Value $10

This is a pretty jewelry-heavy subscription. This item is exclusive to the box so I have taken the value from the information card. I am one of those people who will wear pretty much any metal finish (and you WILL get a mixture of silver and gold with this subscription) and I think this will be great for layering.

Here is a closeup of the pendant.

Box of Happies Bracelet – Listed Value $10

I *think* this is dalmatian jasper; it turned out a little dark in the photo. This is another non-branded item but semiprecious stones are expensive and having them added to a finished piece of jewelry makes me feel like the price from the information card is reasonable here. This is a little different from what we usually get with this box but it will work well in a stack with other beaded pieces.

Box of Happies Headband – Listed Value $8

This is a third non-branded item so again, I’ve taken the value from the information card. (It is fairly common to receive non-branded items in this box.) I like that it is somewhat different from past Box of Happies offerings, and the metal contrasts nicely with my black hair.

Contempo Jewelry Stud Earrings – Listed Value $12

These are delicate studs that actually have copper wire accents. I recently started teaching myself wire work with copper but I am not able to make things this nice just yet. I have been able to wear these by painting the posts with a few coats of clear nail polish before putting them in (I have metal sensitivities).

Hooked Soap Handmade Soap in Cran Apple Marmalade – Value $5

I am not having much luck finding this particular scent in the Hooked Soap Etsy shop (linked above) so perhaps it is custom for the box. At any rate, I have used the value from other standard-sized soap bars on their site. This is a wonderful scent for this time of year. I could actually smell it before I even opened the outer envelope! I like discovering new Etsy artisans like Hooked Soap through Box of Happies; I find Etsy a bit overwhelming to navigate on my own.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $45 for the October 2016 Box of Happies. That is an excellent value for this subscription! I am really interested in exploring the Contempo Jewelry shop more, the soap smells lovely, and I will wear all the jewelry (not necessarily at the same time). Items from this box are also definitely giftable and often come already packaged in little gift boxes and bags, which is nice.

What did you think of the October Box of Happies? Do you get any artisan or handmade subscriptions?
