Winc (formerly known as Club W) is a wine subscription box that re-imagines the traditional wine club.

They offer a regularly changing selection of unique, small production wines that are sourced directly from vineyards and winemakers.

When you sign up to join Winc, you take a short, fun “palate profile” quiz that helps determine your taste in wine. Based on your answers, Winc makes bottle recommendations for you every month. You can go along with their recommendations or choose your own bottles from their regularly changing selection.

If you don’t log in to make your monthly bottle selection, your recommended wines will be sent by default. You can skip a month at any time.

2015 Field Theory Albariño- $18

The majority of Winc’s wines cost $13 per bottle, but they do also have a selection of more expensive offerings. I’ve been obsessed with Albariño lately, so I couldn’t resist giving this bottle a try! The first thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the box is that the bottle is rather squat, quite a bit shorter and fatter than a typical bottle. I’m a fan of inventive packaging, so I think this is a fun choice. The wine itself is really tasty, and it’s a fair bit smoother and less acidic than some other bottles of Albariño I’ve tried.

2015 Wildest Dreams White Blend- $13

Winc’s Wildest Dreams is the result of a collaboration with Bri Emory, the creator of lifestyle blog designlovefest, and it “embodies the dreamy, ethereal vibe” of her site. (If you want to get a feel for her aesthetic, check out these wonderful pastel desktop wallpapers!) Emory designed the label for this bottle, and it’s really pretty. The cork also has a little heart on it, which is a sweet touch.

The wine itself is a 50-50 blend of juicy Sauvignon Blanc and aromatic Viognier. It’s dry, crisp, and delicious. This is exactly the kind of wine I like to open when I’m cooking because it’s full of flavor but still easy to drink.

2015 Capuchon White Blend- $13

This wine was inspired by the Rhône Valley, and it’s a blend of Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier. Winc describes this wine as crisp and lemony, but, for me, there’s also a honey flavor that melds with the lemon to remind me a little of Ricola Cough Drops. (In a good way, I think.) Winc recommends pairing this wine with lemon bars, which sounds like a match made in heaven.

Honey Beast 2015 White Blend- $13

My final pick for this box is yet another Rhône-style white blend, this time a 50-50 mix of Roussanne and Marsanne. It reminds me quite a bit of the Capuchon, but the honey flavor is far more pronounced. For me, this is a wine that’s best served with food. (It’s a little intense, lush, and heavy for me to drink on its own.) I think I’m going to serve it with lemon & garlic roast chicken!

Verdict: I had a lot of fun with this month’s Winc wines! My favorite bottles are the Albariño and the Wildest Dreams Blend, but I liked the other two, as well, and I’m looking forward to pairing the Honey Beast with roasted chicken. At $13 per bottle, I think Winc offers a pretty good value, and I love the fun labels they design for their bottles. If you like trying new small-production wines that you can’t find in the grocery store (or you’re looking for a wine subscription that allows you to hand pick the bottles you receive), I definitely recommend checking out Winc!

What do you think of Winc? Have you tried any of the bottles I picked out this month?

I just started my Winc subscription (2 boxes so far), and I LOVE this wine club. I’ve loved almost all the wines I’ve tried, but the Capuchon was unfortunately a miss for me. The description mentioned minerality and lemon, but unfortunately all I could taste was tin and bitter lemon rind. 🙁 By contrast, last month’s recommended YeYe Albarino was one of the best whites I’ve ever had, and I’d order a case of it if I could.

However, customer service was AWESOME! I emailed them and let them know that out of the 8 wines I’ve tried with them, this one just didn’t fit my palate, and they immediately put a $13 credit on my account. And all this was on a Sunday evening! Honestly, I’ve never experienced better customer service, and I can see myself staying with this wine club for a long time!
