The information card this month was a little different than the previous card, but it also looks more professionally-produced. I cCan’t try the recipe as it includes meat (although I’m sure some sort of bean would be a good substitute), but I do like the idea of stuffed squash or pumpkin for fall!

strength-crate-october-2016-coffee

Caveman Coffee Mug – Value $18

Confession time. This did not arrive broken. I dropped it during my unboxing. It was actually packaged pretty well and cushioned by another item in the box (the empty sandbell, see below).

Caveman Coffee “White Gold” (12 oz) – Value $15

It seems to be a theme with CrossFit and weightlifting boxes to get coffee and coffee paraphernalia. Caveman Coffee is certainly popular in these boxes.  Another confession: I hate coffee. I cCan’t stand the taste or the smell. However, my husband has picked back up with his coffee habit and one of the things that helps him tolerate my subscription box habit is giving him things from the boxes every now and then. He was happy to receive this! (This is intended for brew in a French press and includes chlorogenic acid, typically found in green coffee and which has anti-inflammatory properties.)

strength-crate-october-2016-coffee-cans

Kill Cliff Sweet Mojo Cold Brew Coffee (11 oz, 2 cans) – Total Value $6

Kill Cliff is another popular brand in this type of box. These are sweetened mostly with erythritol (we are trying to cut back on sugar as we get older) and my husband likes them for a change of pace from hot coffee.

Caveman Coffee MCT Oil (2 oz) – Value $2.18

I believe this is my third bottle of this stuff in the past few months. It is refined coconut oil that is liquid at room temperature that you can stir into coffee (to make something rather like bulletproof coffee). I am (gasp) on a high carb, llow-fatdiet at the moment (hey, it works for me, I have lost 40 pounds so far this year) so I will not be adding this to beverages, but it is pretty good used as cooking oil (easier than measuring out solid coconut oil).

strength-crate-october-2016-livesore

Livesore Sunglasses – Value $12.95

I think these were just a bonus or extra to go along with the socks. It is still in the 70s and 80s here in Georgia so sunglasses are not exactly inappropriate for this part of the country, even in late October.

Livesore “Quad Damn” Socks – Value $11.95

These are some long socks. I am not sure I could pull them off in public (my quads are not anything to write home about at this point since I have been concentrating on fat loss) but maybe one day soon I can start working on building leg muscles. Until then, they can help keep my legs warm in my frigid exercise room.

strength-crate-october-2016-sandbell

Hyperwear Sandbell (20 lb) – Value $47.99

Now here is something else I didn’t know I needed until I had it in my possession. I have a couple of weighted balls in low weights (like 4 or 8 pounds) but it gets expensive to buy more and more weighted balls as your strength training needs change, plus there are space issues (you should see my kettlebell collection…). But this, you can fill with sand to whatever weight you want up to 20 pounds. Yay for gradual increases! Now I just need to get some sand.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $114 for the October Strength Crate. That is a fair amount over the cost of the box plus shipping and I am totally a fan of the most expensive item (the sandbell). I am not as thrilled about all the coffee, but I suspect I am in the minority there (and I there was someone in the house who was happy to take it off my hands). I am finding myself to be quite a fan of the equipment Strength Crate sends!

I wish some of these fitness boxes are at a lower price point. The coffee is the only thing I would have liked from this box. It is just too much of a risk for me.

I think it is just difficult to get good apparel and gear at a lower price point. Those sandbells are not cheap, for example, and I doubt Strength Crate got them for free (I know some of the beauty boxes get free promotional samples to send out), although they might’ve gotten a reduced price. But I do understand where you’re coming from.
