This month’s box is all about the outdoors, and the items selected are intended to inspire subscribers to venture out and explore.

robb-vices-september-2016-sake

Soto Sake (720 ml.) - Value $44.99

I’ll occasionally order sake when I’m out for sushi, but I really don’t know that much about it. I know, of course, that it’s made from rice, but that’s pretty much it. After doing a bit of research, it seems that sake is an extremely varied beverage. It can be cloudy or clear, crisp or creamy, and the flavor can be clean, floral, or even fruity.

robb-vices-september-2016-sake-cloth

This sake is made using polished rice and pure mountain water, and the flavor is mild, smooth, and clean. I really like it. The packaging is lovely, too

robb-vices-september-2016-granola

Sommer House The Original Granola (16 oz.) - Value $24

This granola is something special. It’s made with tart cherries, pistachios, and coconut flakes, and it’s sweet, crunchy, and a little salty.

robb-vices-september-2016-granola-open

I tried a small handful when it first arrived, and I eventually had to put it away because I kept going back for more!

robb-vices-september-2016-epic

Epic Venison Sea Salt Pepper Bar (43 g.) - Value $2.50

I’ve tried Epic Venison Bars before, and they’re not really my favorite. (Probably because I’m not a huge fan of venison…I have enjoyed the other Epic bars I’ve tried!)

robb-vices-september-2016-epic-open

Epic bars are paleo-friendly, gluten and sugar-free, and made using 100% grass fed and free range venison.

robb-vices-september-2016-braven-1

Braven BRV-PRO - Value $149.99 (On sale through Amazon for $104.07)

Last but certainly not least, my box contained this heavy duty outdoor speaker.

robb-vices-september-2016-braven-2

This puppy is waterproof, and the battery can last up to 30 hours.

robb-vices-september-2016-braven-3

There are a number of companion products available that can increase the battery life, add solar charging capability, and turn the speaker into a dual speaker/ lantern. (Robb Vices included a coupon code that takes 50% off accessories at the online Brazen store.)

robb-vices-september-2016-braven-4

The sound is crisp and clear, and I’d say it’s comparable in sound quality to my Bose Mini Soundlink (though the Braven has a much longer battery life).

robb-vices-september-2016-braven-5

It has a USB port that can be used to charge your cell phone, and it also has a built-in microphone and speakerphone (so you can take calls).

robb-vices-september-2016-braven-6

The ports are located on the top and are protected by a waterproof cover.

robb-vices-september-2016-braven-7

This is such a cool item, and I think it’s great for the outdoor theme!

robb-vices-september-2016-braven-8

I’m not that outdoorsy, so I doubt my speaker will ever make it out camping, but I can’t wait to use it poolside and at the beach!

Verdict: This is such a fun box, and I definitely think it will inspire subscribers to venture out into nature. (Fall is the perfect time for camping, after all!) Even though I doubt I’ll personally be trekking out into the outdoors with any of the items I received, I still love the collection of items sent out this month. Using the sale price of the speaker, the value of the items in this box comes to approximately $175. That’s over twice the cost of the box, which is fantastic!

Have you tried Robb Vices? What do you think of the luxuries sent to subscribers this month?

Has anyone gotten their Visionaire free gift? I’m interested what people think of their choices — I’m personally most curious about 42 scent, 50 toys, 57 ‘2010 calendar, and 59 Fairytale, but as a late joiner I haven’t picked mine yet.

Reply ButtonReply

Adele

I received mine today. I choose Fairytale and it’s really nice. They come wrapped in plastic with the bookstrap. The books aren’t long at all, just like children’s books. I like the images they used and there is a scratch and sniff book, haha! The Bjork book is supposed to have her singing, but it didn’t work, so I’m contacting Visionaire about that. It’s still too light out to try out the glow in the dark Viktor and Rolf book (funny, I would have thought they would have been the scratch and sniff!).

Reply ButtonReply

Connie

Did they respond about the Bjork book? Mine also does not sing. I really enjoyed this but could tell they had been stored for a while as some damage and discoloration.

Jerilynn

I haven’t gotten mine yet. I emailed them and they stated because of some issue with the USPS that it was delayed. I hope I receive it by the end of the month. I ordered the sound art for my son and he loved it! It is very unique. I hope i get the scent or the fairytale.

Does anyone know when the October box ships?

paige

I really like the boxes but have had a few concerns. I purchased this box (year sub) for my husband on June 05 – one day late for the June box. But they sent him the sunglasses – too small for him so I am the proud owner. So, I was very impressed. The next box we received was with the pineapple tumbler. It was damaged. I e-mailed them and they sent a quick response. They would send him another one. This is October – still haven’t received it. I’ve sent several e-mails about this and haven’t received any replies. I think that the next one was the coffee box (husband doesn’t drink coffee – but, I do – it was a nice box but not what i was expecting). Also, after reading their suggestions about sending the boxes to work re: signing for alcohol, I changed my shipping address to my work place. They still sent it to home. Wasn’t a problem because it was coffee. I e-mailed and called (had to leave a message) to please send the boxes to my work address as previously
requested (and changed on the website). The next box (Sake) still came to my home address – we just happened to be home re: personal issue. Again I called (Left a message and e-mailed) NO RESPONSE. I don’t get it.

Yes, I finally received the pineapple tumbler – it is beautiful and GOLD! We received the Visionaire gift – the 42 scents. We haven’t tried them yet but looking forward to it.
This box turned out better than I thought. My husband (I purchased this for him) LOVED the venison bar. We have already ordered more of the snack mix – it is pretty Fantastic! Not really a fan of Sake but after reading this review, I think that we will try it this weekend – we are supposed to have close to fall like weather here in Houston. And my husband is very pleased with the speaker. Interesting though that I didn’t receive responses from Robb’s Vices until I wrote a review on MSA. Just saying.

Beth

I think that more man would be super excited about this box. My man would of went nuts. I wish they would have some super sweet deal around Christmas so I could get this for my better half. I just can’t throw 80+ out. I wish that they had a womens box and a mans but the same idea and subscription of course.

Reply ButtonReply

Connie

I signed up for this box after the bone spoons and caviar box and have been hoping for something similar. I agree with others that the last two boxes have only been ok.

Reply ButtonReply

Ann

This is an AMAZING box. Sadly I am in the middle of setting up a kitchen and purging my stockpile. I have listed this RV up for swap . . . but am fighting the urge to devour the snacks!!

Reply ButtonReply

MrsBmotherof3

I am happy for you guys that are pleased with the speaker. I am glad I held my tongue for a moment before I spoke.

From the oysters to the caviar to the whiskey to the tequila…they had me at “bone spoons”. I just feel like the last two months haven’t spoke to me the same way the earlier boxes did.

Anyone can go online and buy a Bluetooth speaker (no disrespect).

Especially with the cost of the sub being what it is, I would think most subscribers can/have procured their own rugged Bluetooth speakers?

Is it just me or has the vision of this sub slightly changed? Or maybe I never understood the “concept” in the first place.

I used to believe it was a fastidious cultivation of the finest of everything. Things that you have to “know someone to get”…
“Hello, we’re with Rob V!”…
“Right this way, madam”

It felt decedent and regal, exclusive and distinguished. The last few months have felt more (don’t say it…don’t say it….) pedestrian.

Don’t get me wrong…This sub is the BOOOMB, no doubt…and the value is there all day long. It just no longer “blows my mind”.

The thing that is missing for me is the “excess” the feeling of utter indulgence. It had something elusive and intangible. You couldn’t “put it up for resale on EBay”. It just doesn’t glimmer like it used to.

I’ll still subscribe, just curious if anyone else felt the same.

Reply ButtonReply

paige

I do. I just wrote a long review about my “concerns”. I finally subscribed, then it seemed to kind of be less than my expectations. And, they haven’t been true to their word to me. I hope that this doesn’t continue.

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

Wow I felt like I was reading a great article or book with your comment MrsBmotherof3. I totally get what your laying down…..

Reply ButtonReply

Mrsbmotherof3

You pickin up what I laying down, gf? Ha! Love it!

What a nice thing to say ?Your too kind☺️ I am flattered.

Now if I could just express myself in such a way that my husband and kiddos would understand (then swiftly comply, of course!) ?

THAT, sweet Beth, would be the true festivus miracle!!
??????‍♀️??????

You have just OFFICIALLY made my day!?

ct

No, I agree. I do think they’ve put some great stuff in here, but nothing SPECIAL. I really liked the extraordinary curation, and that seems a bit lacking these past 2 months.

Reply ButtonReply

Mrsbmotherof3

Thank you. Glad I am not alone.

I watched the promo video (with the guy and gal rock climbers?) I don’t get it.

I Kind of see what they are trying to……nope, i don’t get it. They are reaching with this one! IMO. I mean how silly? They carried the entire box to their rock climbing location? Then ended the day with the Sake? Come on, cheese. Cheesy! CHEESE?

Unless they intended to unveil the next box as a “exploration of cheese?” (Brilliant……we just went on the journey with you, Robb. Cheesy video, cheesy box….bravo!)

I concede, this box knows exactly where it’s taking us!?

Now there is two great box ideas, throw in some dry ice and/or a firework ?. ?..and you’ll be back on top! (Just no more rock climbing videos, please?)

Sammee

Do you prefer the boxes that focus more on food and alcohol? Just wondering. I’m a tech geek so boxes like this one are more my speed, but I guess everyone is different so they try to vary it up a bit.

Reply ButtonReply

Mrsbmotherof3

For sure, Sammee. I guess I don’t have a preference.

I do love food, and I am a fan of the spirits, as well. I just have enough “stuff”, I want the experience.

Champagne taste with a bud light budget, I guess?

Oh…..champagne! Now could be an intriguing cornerstone to a upcoming box?

Adele

I agree with everyone, that granola was good. I had to force myself to stop eating it. I liked the Epic bar too. The speaker is much better than I thought it would be, I like to use it when I’m getting dressed and the call sound is good to, everyone I talked to through it said they could hear me fine and they sounded clear to me. This was my first time trying sake and I like it. I emailed Soto to see if they have any recipes and they sent me a nice list with different options that I will be trying. If I have to give up all my boxes except one, this is the one I would keep.

@Carol Pickersgill I received my Visionaire order and a notice from Robb Vices to select my special issue and have not received it yet. I thought it may be in the September box, but nope. Also, I did not receive a shipping notice for the September box. I only knew because I have a FedEx account and know when it says signature required that it has alcohol. I didn’t have to sign for the August box.

Reply ButtonReply

Connie

I also received email to pick the Visionaire but haven’t received yet and did not receive an email back so hope they received.

Reply ButtonReply

Adele

Now that I think about it, I didn’t receive an acknowledgement email for my choice neither.

Carol, you should contact them and see why you didn’t receive the selection email. We had to let them know what we wanted by 9/17 I think it was.

Carol Pickersgill

At least all is consistent @Adele! Although I haven’t received any notification from Robb Vices to select my special issue (thought they were picking and sending out random?). Will be interested to hear when anyone receives Visionaire special issue…..

Reply ButtonReply

Tara

I always look forward to the reviews for this box! This year my husband and I are planning on getting a year long sub as our Christmas present to each other. This company always seems to put together really amazing & interesting boxes!

Reply ButtonReply

Sammee

Great box! Sorry I missed out on it. My first RV box will be next month. Fingers crossed it’s just as good. I’m also looking forward to seeing what the free gift will be.

Reply ButtonReply

Carol Pickersgill

Love Robb Vice subscription – so completely unique! Now… couple minor comments:

1) I used the code MSAVICELOVE when placing a six month order. Didn’t receive any bonus gift…. and when I asked – they said it will come with the LAST order in the subscription:( That just seems contrary to every other bonus gift.
2) I received August box – and…. I just received the order I placed via Visionaire today. But – still haven’t received the “Rare Edition / Special Issue” from Visionaire. Has anyone received?
3) I didn’t receive any notification that the September box was shipping. And… there was alcohol. Luckily I was working from home day the day this arrived! But – that is not always the case and would be an issue with needing to sign for the alcohol.

Other than these issues above…. absolutely love the items that are curated!

Reply ButtonReply

ct

Shipping has been SUCH an issue for me. Even though I love the boxes, I can’t take a day off work each month to sign for them. And they can’t open up management of shipments (even though FedEx has said it is an option even with alcohol). And they don’t always ship with the same carrier so I can’t rely on a business address. 🙁 Sad I’m not going to renew next month. I will miss this box a lot.

Reply ButtonReply

LonePenguin

Can I ask when you received your August box? I too placed my 6-month order to include the August box and haven’t received a single notice. I’ve sent messages via Facebook and emails – I only received one email assuring me something would be shipped out in a few days. This was three weeks ago and I placed my order back in August! Thanks for any feedback that could help.

Reply ButtonReply

Carol Pickersgill

See response in Comments from Robb Vice. They have been terrific in response when I’ve sent emails with any questions… I received my August box in mid September (based on fact that I ordered Sept 1). I’d recommend sending another email.

Nikki

Any idea what the gift is with a 6 or 12 month subscription?

Reply ButtonReply

Carol Pickersgill

This is the note that I received when I asked about my gift (didn’t receive): “All gifts come towards the end of the membership. If there is a particular vice you have please let us know so we may keep this in mind.”

Reply ButtonReply

Anne

Has anyone been able to get the braven code to work?

Reply ButtonReply

Paula

Yes, I ordered the solar charger via the Braven app and it worked fine, free shipping too!

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Someone once mentioned that if you are not an consumer of alcohol, that you can specify that on your subscription. What do you get if you don’t get alcohol? Is it the same box with something else in place of the sake? Or do you get a different box entirely?

Reply ButtonReply

L

They ask if you are over 21 and about your alcohol consumption when you sign up, but not for the purpose of offering an alcohol-free box. I believe these questions are what people are mistaking for an alcohol free option. They are pretty clear that many (not all) of the boxes may have alcohol. Hope that helps!

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

I emailed them about no alcohol, and they said their boxes all contain alcohol, which make nice gifts if you don’t drink. So they don’t have an alcohol free option.

Reply ButtonReply

Marissa

I was reading this thinking how happy I was I don’t sub, I don’t drink, I’m a vegetarian and then bam that speaker 🙁 I need one so bad and was going to buy an outdoor speaker last week! I hate that these ship late and now it’s October because I don’t want to get a 6 month sub so they can give me this box, I wish they would just let new subscribers pick if they have leftover .

Reply ButtonReply

Connie

I have to order more granola and have already ordered two boxes of the Epic bars. Gave the speaker to my brother as a gift since will be perfect for his fishing trips. I think I am a lifetime subscriber to Robb Vices.

Reply ButtonReply

Lia

The speaker charges incredibly fast for a 30 hour battery life and microphone/speakerphone is an amazing feature. I can now take conference calls at home without putting in earbuds or using the speaker directly on my phone (which is, in my opinion, not the greatest quality even if it is an Iphone7…). I LOVE Vices more than is probably reasonable….

Reply ButtonReply

TiaMarie10

One day I will subscribe to this box for my husband! I think this is one of the best boxes out there for men (although women can enjoy it too)! If only tax + shipping was included in the price… Great review of this box. If anyone wants to sell their speaker Let me know!

Reply ButtonReply

Joanna

That granola is my kryptonite!! I’ve already ordered a refill. Such a great box! I bought it for my husband and he’s continually impressed.
