Pet Treater is a subscription box for dogs. Select from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (21-50 pounds), and large (51+ pounds). This review is of the Large Dog Size, $24.99 a month, box. My dog Nyx, a Rottweiler, is about 87 pounds right now.

This box included a letter addressed to Nyx!
There was also a card with a photo of a dog with last month’s box items.
And ANOTHER gift code for Hello Fresh. There must be a warehouse full of these somewhere…
This meme was on the inside of the box. It is actually appropriate considering the contents. (Sorry about the glare.)
This product literature was in the box, too
Nature’s Deli Beef Knuckle – Value $5?
I can’t find this exact item online (too many search results about a recall from 2013). So I am just using an average value from other similar items that turned up in a search. This is definitely size-appropriate for a large-breed dog, which is appreciated. (Always supervise your dog during bone chew time, though!)
Indigo Smokehouse Strips, Bacon (1 oz) – Value $0.95
Indigo Smokehouse Strips, Chicken (1 oz) – Value $0.67
These both appear to be discontinued. That is not so unusual for Pet Treater. I do encourage you to check expiration dates on dog treats carefully before feeding. That being said, these are from USA-grown meats and contain no byproducts, corn, wheat, soy, or artificial flavors.
Sneaky (aka The Official Beef Tester) isn’t too sure what to think of this. Probably because it is as big as her head. It was also super heavy.
Bowser Beer in Porky Pug Porter (12 fl oz) – Value $4
First, there was wine for cats and now there is beer for dogs. (Don’t give your dog actual beer; hops can be poisonous to dogs.) This is basically pork-flavored water with some vitamins and glucosamine. Unfortunately, due to Nyx’s IBD, this is a no-go, but I will find someone else with a dog to pass it on to.
“Drinking Buddy” Bandana – Value $5?
Who knew there were so many “drinking buddy” bandanas for dogs? I couldn’t find this exact one so I estimated the price based on similar items. My husband and I don’t drink but it was kind of funny to see Nyx wearing it, nonetheless.
She has no idea what is going on here. But hey, it fit a Rottweiler neck, so that is something.
Petstor Over-the-Door Pet Organizer (10.5” x 32.75”) – Value $18.03
The construction of our home is such that we have almost no doors on the first floor except a bathroom, the pantry, and doors going outside. However, this would be useful in other architectural circumstances. I am probably going to repurpose it for shoes!
Pumpkin Cupcake Mold + Spatula – Value $6?
I found some similar items elsewhere but not this exact set, so the price is an estimate. This also might be fun for making Halloween-themed novelty bar soaps.
Bow-Wow Pet Breast Cancer Awareness Bone – Value $7?
It is iffy whether I can find Bow-Wow Pet toys online. I wasn’t able to locate this one so the price is an estimate based on similarly-sized plush toys I found online. This was not particularly durable, but then, there are some dogs who can be trusted with plush toys (my last Rottie was one of them).
Bow-Wow Pet Monsters Dog Toy – Value $5.99
This was more durable than I thought it would be. (They are a little hard to find in stock online.) I like all six of the products in the product line but I am kind of strange that way. (Like, I was SO EXCITED when my husband gave me my birthday gift in this bag.) Of course, Nyx loved it.
Here are some shots of Nyx enjoying the monster toy.
Alas, the poor monster toy has met its end…
Verdict: I calculated a value of around $52.64 for the October Pet Treater dog subscription box. That value is pretty good. Nyx loved the toys and some of the human-oriented items were useful. I’m a little concerned that the treats were so hard to find online and/or seem to be discontinued. The dog beer was an interesting discovery. All-in-all, I would say the contents of this box are pretty representative of a typical month with Pet Treater.
What do you think of the October 2016 Pet Treater box? Do you subscribe to any dog or cat boxes?
