My Paper + Pen subscription arrived in a bubble mailing envelope. All of the items were nicely wrapped in tissue paper when I opened it.

Paper + Pen includes a business card sized note card that has a QR Code on it. The QR code takes you to the Past Boxes section of their website, so you can see everything that is in your box for the month. This month’s post wasn’t up yet when I went to write the review.

Cosmos Sticky Notes – Value $1.50

These sticky notes are pretty cool. I love the design and how they resemble the planets. I received Earth and it’s as realistic as a sticky note can get! They are pretty thin, so when you go to use them, be careful tearing them off. Also, the different colors make it difficult to see a lot of writing, so keep that in mind when you choose your pen color for the day!

Sunset Notebook – Value $3.00?

This notebook says “Here, the dusk is sudden, the night silent, the panoply of stars immense and brilliant.” I love the illustration on the front – it’s beautiful and unusual.

The inside pages are lined and have a space for the date and page number.

Black Post-it Notes – Value $2.37

You really can’t go wrong with the original Post-it Notes. The quality is always there! These are black, so you’ll definitely need a light colored gel pen to write with. Which is why it’s great that Paper + Pen included one for our use!

Uni-ball Signo Angelic Color UM-120AC Gel Pen – 0.7 mm – White Ink – Value $2.00

This pen writes very smoothly on the black Post-it Notes. The ink flows steadily and smoothly, while the pigment shows up really well on the dark paper.

Black the Starry Sky Pen – Value $1.12

Red the Starry Sky Pen – Value $1.12

These pens have gel ink and they write very smoothly. I love the design on the outside of the pens and the tip is pretty fine.

Verdict: I really loved the astronomy theme this month. I don’t know what the official theme is for the month but whatever it was – it was a winner for me. As far as value goes, I can only guess on some of the items but I calculate a value of about $11.12.

Paper + Pen is consistently low value, so I am not surprised by that number. I do wish the company would bring the value up or the price down because I’m certain they would get more subscribers. The curation is always spot on but not many people will want to pay $20.00 for $11.00 worth of products, even if they are well curated.

Have you tried Paper + Pen yet?

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane…the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane…but she’s always looking for a new subscription to try!

  1. I love the starry sky pens. I am going to have to Google to see if I can find some.

  2. Eh. It looks too cheap to me in what you get, i.e. colored, thin sticky notes that i’m sure curl when you peel them off the pad. Those pens look cheap, and while a white gel pen is cool it’s not something that I’d use often enough, except for when writing on that one black pad. Hmmm i guess you could use the white gel pen for the earth pad, too, which is something. The real stickler is that price point. It’s just not interesting or exclusive enough to spend double what the products are worth.
