Boxwalla's Food Box introduces subscribers to gourmet food products from small-batch producers across the US. The curators at Boxwalla seek out the best American artisanal products, and they only include their favorite products from any given category.
Boxwalla has beautiful packaging. Their boxes are sturdy and beautiful, and they’re crafted from tree-free paper by a small company in Rajasthan, India.

This review is of the Boxwalla Food, $49.95 a month, box. Subscriptions for October are currently closed, so, if you sign up now, your first box will arrive in December. (The cutoff date for each box is the 15th of the preceding month. So, to receive the December box, your order will need to be placed by November 15th.)

Anette’s Chocolates Chili Lime Tequila Tortilla Brittle (8 oz.)- Value $11.95
I’m a sucker for boozy sweets, but I wasn’t sold on this brittle right away. With chili and lime and tequila and tortilla chips and sugar, there’s just a lot going on! I wasn’t sure how all of the different flavors would work together, so I was excited to give it a try. I’m pleased to report that this brittle is heavenly. Right away, I picked up on the taste of lime, which was pretty quickly replaced by a building heat from the chili. Right when I started to think, “uh… this is getting spicy!” the sugary brittle took over and the heat dissipated. At the very end, I was left with the flavor of tortilla chips. Each bite is like a little journey of flavor. Wow.
Feve Chocolate Covered Chai Spiced Almonds (3 oz.)- Value $8
All of the items in this box were selected because they “complement crisp fall days,” and I have to say that Chocolate Chai Spiced Almonds, in particular, definitely seem appropriate for this time of year! They’re made with roasted almonds, dark chocolate, ginger-infused white chocolate, and a handmade chai spice blend. I shared a taste with my husband, and we both agreed that they’re fantastic. The chai spice blend is perfectly balanced, and it’s delicious with chocolate. (The combination makes me think of chai tea lattes and hot chocolates!) I have a feeling these won’t be around for long.
Feve Chocolate Covered Caramelized Hazelnuts (3 oz.)- Value $8
I really like dark chocolate, but I have to say that these dark chocolate-covered hazelnuts are just okay. Well, let me back up a bit. They're actually delicious, but I tried them right after the chai spiced almonds and they just fell a little short by comparison. The chocolate is high quality and the hazelnuts have a satisfying crunch, but they just don’t have the same magic that the almonds do.
Feve Chocolate Covered Candied Orange Peel (1.75 oz.)- Value $10
Again, I’m a fan of these chocolate covered orange peels, but they just don’t hold a candle to the chai almonds.
Ethereal Confections Macadamia Nuts + Raspberries + Kaffir Lime Inclusion Bar (2.25 oz.)- Value $7.50
The last two items in this box are both Inclusion Bars from Ethereal Confections. I first discovered Ethereal Confections back in February, when they were last featured by Boxwalla. Inclusion bars have their various “toppings” pressed into the back of the chocolate bar, as opposed to having them mixed into chocolate, which results in an absolutely beautiful bar of chocolate. The first bar combines raspberries, Kaffir lime, and macadamia nuts, and the combination is tasty.
Ethereal Confections Candied Ginger + Candied Orange Peel + Coriander Inclusion Bar (2.25 oz.)- Value $7.50
Between the two bars, this one is my favorite. I get really excited to try new and unusual flavor combinations, and I’m pretty sure I’ve never tried ginger, orange, and coriander together before. It’s a lovely mix of citrusy, zesty, and earthy flavors, and it really works for me. My only complaint is that maybe it’s a little light on the toppings? Still, it’s beautiful and delicious.
Verdict: I really like all of the items in this month’s Boxwalla Food Box, and there’s no denying that the value is there. (The retail value of the items comes in a few dollars above the cost of the box.) Still, I find myself wishing that this box had a little bit more variety. Five of the items in this box came from two different brands, and one of those brands was also featured a few boxes ago. What do you think?
