From Awaken Box’s FAQ: “Our mission is to awaken hearts and minds to the needs of our neighbors across the globe and to support artisans in third world countries who are trying to sustain a business for themselves to simply survive.” That’s a noble mission. Bravo!

This card was included this month, describing Tiny Hands International, a faith-based charity that helps fight human trafficking in South Asia. What an important cause!

awaken-october-2016-recipe

This is our recipe of the month, Dal Bhat, a lentil and rice dish. This looks delicious, and it’s really well-timed as I have been trying different meatless dishes with my family lately.

Handmade Paper Notebook

This beautiful notebook was made in Nepal from the lotka plant. This is a craft that is hundreds of years old! I love it!

Handmade Cosmetics Case

This is a beautiful handmade cosmetics case! I just wish I had more information about who made it and where it comes from.

Look at this cute tiny bag!

Silver Ring

Inside the bag was this beautiful silver ring! It’s adjustable, but still quite big. I could only wear it on my thumb. My husband doesn’t wear rings as fashion accessories, but I think it would be perfect for a man who does.

Best Assam Tea

Oh my gosh, I wish you could smell this tea! It smells incredible! It smells so fresh, I really have never smelled tea like this before. It tastes great, too.

Verdict: I am really enjoying my subscription to Awaken Box! Every month they send such beautiful items, and I love feeling like I’m helping to support such important charities and causes around the world. My only wish with Awaken is that they would provide more information about who makes the items and how they are tied to that month’s charity organization, if at all. Sometimes they do, but not usually. Otherwise, I think it’s a wonderful subscription at a very reasonable price.

  1. Wow, one of the nicest boxes of this type I’ve seen. Great selection and I simply adore that journal, its almost too pretty and unique to use! Almost 🙂

  2. If anyone would like to trade the paper notebook, I’d love to have one… SO pretty for journaling. ?

  3. The bag you don’t know much about looks to be made with woven material done by Mayan Indians. I did my overseas study when in college in Guatemala and learned back strap weaving from the Mayans who live there. The bag looks very much like the cloth they weave.

    • I was thinking the same thing. It certainly looks Guatemalan. But then I took a closer look at the photo and the tag inside the bag looks like it says “Made in India” or possibly “Made in Nepal.” Too blurry to see in the pic. Hmmm. Maybe somebody who has one can take a look and inform us, just to satisfy curiosity. I don’t subscribe to this box yet, but I really like their concept.

  4. I love everything in this box! I just subscribed 🙂 But now I want THIS box …

    • Lol! You should contact customer service, maybe they can send you one. Good luck! ?

      • I contacted them and they were great – holly was very helpful and said they would list the box online “soon” at a slightly higher price than the club price. But I’m hopeful 🙂 Thanks for the great review and I’m excited about getting this sub box!
