WODBOM stands for “Workout of the Day – Box of the Month” and is a subscription box designed for CrossFit enthusiasts, by CrossFit enthusiasts. (Although, I don’t think you absolutely have to be into CrossFit to get something out of this box, as long as you are interested in working out!)

Lawless Jerky in Sweet Sriracha (2 oz) – Value $5.99

I am a vegetarian and my husband is not a jerky fan, so I put this on the “free snacks” table at work, where it disappeared fairly quickly. Most of the snacks in this box are what I would call “Paleo friendly” and fairly often, they are not vegetarian. So just keep that in mind.

Fitaid Fuel Pouch – Value $3.33

This has good protein levels but almost no fat or fiber and it is kind of high in sugar. I don’t mind mostly fruit puree pouches but this has a bunch of whey protein in it. While whey is actually my favorite type of protein to put in smoothies, it just kind of makes pouches taste like cheese to me, and not in a good way. The ingredients do seem high quality and the omega 3s are from chia, so it is vegetarian. It also has branched chain amino acids to help with muscle recovery.

WOD Welder 3-Step Hand Care Kit – Value $24.50

This is a system for caring for your hands (and treating calluses, blisters, and abrasions) so you can keep doing lots of reps during weight training. I am not so much for bare-handed weight lifting because I am worried about sweat and dropping things (or flinging my kettlebell into the TV), so I typically wear gloves. But, this seems like it will be good for maintenance of my feet between foot peels! This has a solid salve with natural ingredients like lanolin and beeswax (so it’s not vegan) plus some natural essential oils, a pumice stone for smoothing calluses, and a hand cream to follow up with. Definitely a useful item to include in a box like this.

Trubrain Productivity Drink (2 pouches) – Value $5.50

This is vegan, gluten free, and non-GMO, if any of those are important to you. This has lots of natural ingredients and was developed by a neuroscientist to help with focus and concentration as well as reducing stress. This does contain caffeine so don’t try it too late in the day (learned my lesson). I’m saving the second one to help perk me up in the afternoon at work one day when I really need it!

Junk Big Bang Lite WODBOM Headband – Value $15.99

I got some of these headbands in Strength Crate last month and liked them so I am happy to have another. I can start actually washing them on a regular basis! I like wearing them to keep hair out of my face while I exercise. They fit well and stay in place.

Here is a close-up of the graphic on the headband – it’s customized for WODBOM!

wodbom-september-2016-tank

Flex Mafia Apparel “Safe Sets” Tank – Value $20

I am all about tanks for working out lately. (This is the type where your sports bra will show in back, FYI.) It is hot in my basement (where I keep my treadmill, home gym, etc.). And now I have enough of them that I can go a whole week without doing laundry! Mine is a women’s small and it fits well (you do give size and gender information when signing up).

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $75.31 for the September WODBOM. That definitely exceeds the cost of the box by a fair margin and is a typical value for WODBOM. I appreciate getting some workout wardrobe staples (headband, tank) and will definitely use the hand care kit, even if not exactly as intended. If you are into CrossFit and/or lifting, this box has an excellent value. For this subscription, it helps if you follow a Paleo diet and this is probably not the right box for vegans unless you have a friend or relative who will take occasional jerky off your hands.
