For reference, my dog Nyx is an 84-pound Rottweiler. Top Crest by Jones Natural Chews – Value $2.85
These are made in the USA from US cows. Apparently they are slices of the crown knuckle from beef tibia bone. (I’m not up on my ruminant anatomy so that is basically taken from the information card.) Single ingredient chews are a good choice for dogs with allergies!
Smart Pet Tag by Pet Health Locker – Value $15.95
This has a QR code on the back and works with smartphone apps. Anyone who finds your lost pet can scan the code and contact you. Unfortunately, I don’t have a smart phone so I can’t try this out or offer more details. I will pass it on to someone else.
Since Nyx can’t have the chew right now, I enlisted the household BEEF EXPERT to check it out. I am pleased to report that it receives the official Sneaky Bite of Approval!
Cross Ropes Bat by Multipet – Value $6.95
This was a pretty sturdy toy and Nyx liked it a lot. It didn’t seem to have a squeaker but she was happy to gnaw on its ear and try to pull off its wings.
True Chews Steak Grillers (4 oz) – Value $6.49
These are made with USA-sourced beef in the USA and are free of wheat, corn, and soy. They do have some potatoes (generally safe for dogs with allergies) and are free of preservatives and artificial colors.
Dog Window Cling by The Animal Rescue Site – Value $1.80
There is usually one item for people in Rescue Box and this month it is this car window cling. This is a bit large for my car window but I know a few people for whom this item might work better, so I will be passing it along. I do want to point out that the information card had this valued at $9.99 but the Animal Rescue Site (with which this box is affiliated) is actually selling it for only $1.80.
Here are a few shots of Nyx with the toy. She did eventually destroy its ear, but it took her more effort than usual.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $34.04 for September’s Rescue Box. That is a few dollars above the cost of the subscription, so the value is there. I was a little disappointed that every single item’s price was inflated on the information card, though, and this was not the best month for me, personally, since the most expensive item is something I can’t use. (I realize I am one of the last people without a smartphone, though…) Nyx did enjoy the toy, though, and the treats seemed to be high quality. Overall, I still think this is a good subscription, this just wasn’t my favorite box from them.
