The Subscription Box: Purr Packs

The Cost: $24.99 for the Teaser Pack (contains 5-7 items), $29.99 for the Fun & Love Pack (contains 7-9 items), and $39.99 for the Multi-Cat Mega-Pack (contains 9+ items). This is a review of the Multi-Cat Mega-Pack!

Good to know: There are now shipping charges of $4.95 in the US. Subscribers at the time of this change (like me) are grandfathered in to the free shipping plan. Also note that subscribing nets you 10% savings versus buying a single box (coupon codes will still work on top of that discount, as well). You can now decide how many shipments you want in a year and choose the arrival date.

purrpacks-september-2016-card

purrpacks-september-2016-purrcast

Instead of a traditional information card, this month there was a card with a URL where you can find out more about the items in the box. There was also a card advertising “The Purrrcast,” a podcast for cat people (going to that URL took me to iTunes).

purrpacks-september-2016-mat

Cat is Good Canvas Mat (18.5 x 22 inches) – Value $19.99

This is canvas on one side and faux wool (I think) on the other. I like to put things like this in various places around the house – landing on the staircase, top of the dresser, etc. I will find my cats sitting on it every now and then.

purrpacks-september-2016-notebook

Crazy Cat Lady Notebook by Archie McPhee – Value $2.32

I don’t think this made it into the photo of all the items up above. There is usually one little item for people in Purr Packs and this month it is a little notebook. This will be good to keep in my purse for jotting down reminders.

purrpacks-september-2016-scratchpad

Corrugated Cardboard Cat Scratch Pad – Value $10 (?)

You get one of these almost every month with Purr Packs. I have them all over my house now so I typically replace the rattiest looking one with the new one each month when Purr Packs comes. My cats particularly love sleeping on these in a sunny window in the afternoon.

purrpacks-september-2016-sticks

Ethical Pet Feather Boa Wand – Value $6.99

OK, anything dangly on a stick or with feathers is an instant win in my house. This has both!

Mesh Sticks – Value $1 (?)

These aren’t on the list at the website with the items in the box, so the value is just an estimate. My cats like the texture of these and I’m thinking of filling them with catnip for even more fun.

purrpacks-september-2016-taco

Categories Knitty Kitty (2 pack) – Value $6.99

These have rattles inside. Monkey is my only cat who likes rolling toys with rattles, and he did have a lot of fun with these. He pulled off some of the string so I only let him have these while supervised.

Mad Cat Tabby Taco – Value $4.99

We got some other Mad Cat toys in Cuddle Crate last month and they were big hits. They have catnip but also something called feline silvervine, which many cats react to in the same way. Well, this toy may have been the actual winner for the box. Madison had a ball (see some photos below). And the others were interested, as well.

purrpacks-september-2016-treats

Natural Balance Perfect Bites in Salmon (3 oz) – Value $2.49

Natural Balance is a good brand of pet food that I have bought in the past (Nyx used to be on it until her IBD diagnosis). These are free of wheat, corn, and soy and are made in the USA. My cats have been liking fish a lot more lately so these will be a hit (haven’t opened them yet – only want so many open cat treats at any one time…).

Yummy Chummies with Wild Alaska Seafood in Ocean Treasure Recipe (3 oz) – Value $4.99

We got something from this brand in another cat box recently (sorry, don’t remember which one, I get 8 or 10 cat boxes per month). I knew before opening it that it would stink to high heaven (think tropical fish food flakes multiplied by about 20). But I also knew it would be a big hit. Sneaky and Madison liked these a lot.

Cat photo time!

Madison really had a lot of fun with the taco. I took so many pictures, but these were the two best ones.

purrpacks-september-2016-madison3

All tired out…

purrpacks-september-2016-madison4

But not too tired for some stinky fish treats!

purrpacks-september-2016-monkey

So. Monkey knocked this over onto the floor and I am still picking up little paper squiggles.

purrpacks-september-2016-monkey2

He was batting these around everywhere but I couldn’t ever get a good picture.

purrpacks-september-2016-sneaky

Sneaky enjoying some of the toys and treats from the box.

purrpacks-september-2016-sparkles1

purrpacks-september-2016-sparkles2

Mr. Kitty checks out the taco. This thing was super interesting to all the cats.

Verdict: I calculated a value of almost $60 for the September 2016 Purr Packs box. I think that is the best value I have seen yet. (This box always delivers in terms of value, though.)  My cats loved everything and watching Madison with the taco toy was priceless. Purr Packs is consistently one of my favorite cat subscription boxes.

Hi thanks for always doing great reviews, your the reason I am subscribed to 4 different cat boxes and this one is always my fav and my all five of my cats too! They absolutely love to open it itself and pull out all the buried treasure! LOL they seriously love when it comes they know exactly what it is and I do the same I cut open the tape and lift the lid slightly up and they get into it and open it and drag out all the toys all by themselves. It’s so funny to watch them play with toys that are still on the cardboard card or still in the package. they always end up with the Box tipped over and one of them inside of it trying to bury their self inside the cut up paper and the other one on the lid on their back playing with one of the toys LOL for the value of this box out of all of my cat subscription boxes it is the very best! and they always have toys included I would never normally buy my cat’s myself that they end up loving and I’m surprised they do loves those pecific toys that comes in the Box, do you know what I mean? Purrpack always includes really good brands and unique items most of the time they’re all well made and obviously what cat owner doesn’t love having a new scratching pad every month for them? 2 tips that I have for you if you don’t already know is that the scratching pad you can flip over and it’s a whole new pad when you do that. I do this often with any cardboard scratching pad I have gotten. And the long tubular toys that are made out of that plastic mesh stuff that was in this month box you can take your fingers on both ends of the toy and squash it down and it flings out of your fingers and goes flying across the room and the cats go nuts for it. Or you can take that same toy and push in the top edge of it and it will change the shape of it do that on both ends and it will roll around on the floor really well and they love that as well! Now that is a particular toy that I would have never bought them myself but we have multiples of them and they’re always scattered around the house from them carrying them in their mouths and playing with them LOL Also this is the only box that the value actually adds up to what the box overall cost every month. Is this your favorite as well?

FYI – They also have a new sub option: the Slim Pack “for the figure conscious” ($16.99).

Great review Ragan with some awesome real time demos! The first pic of all the stuff with the cat looking on makes me laugh–can’t want to dive into all that stuff. My Kit Kat Klub would probably use everything so I need to eval and consider this as a very well curated cat Sub with good price vs value ratio.
