Each week, Plated offers a different menu with at least 7 dishes to choose from.

plated-september-2016-email

When my box shipped, I received an email letting me know that I would need to have the following “pantry items” on hand: olive oil, black pepper, and kosher salt.

plated-september-2016-bundle

As always, the box was packed with care. Ingredients were bundled by recipe, and each item was in its own container.

The meats were sealed and packed at the bottom of the box, safely away from the produce and surrounded by cool packs.

This box contained a card from Plated announcing that 3-serving meals are now available! 3-serving meals will cost the same amount per plate, and will be designed to be served family-style.

Meal #1-  Prosciutto Fig Pizza with Fontina and Balsamic Glaze

Calories Per Serving: 750

Cook Time: 30-40 minutes

plated-september-2016-pizza1

Plated has some of the most creative pizza recipes around, and I can rarely resist them!

plated-september-2016-pizza2

This one is topped with cheesy béchamel sauce, spicy prosciutto, dried figs, arugula salad, and homemade balsamic glaze.

plated-september-2016-pizza3

The pizza dough for this recipe comes from Portland Pie Company.

plated-september-2016-pizza4

I began by stretching out the pie crust and par baking it in the oven.

While it baked, I mixed some balsamic vinegar with sugar and reduced it into a glaze, and I made a cheese sauce my making a quick béchamel sauce and stirring in grated cheese, salt, and pepper. (I couldn’t help but feel like I was making macaroni and cheese!)

plated-september-2016-pizza5

When the crust just started to brown around the edges, I took it out of the oven, topped it with the cheese sauce, dried figs, and prosciutto. (I made a couple of small tweaks at this stage. Firstly, I only used about 3/4 of the cheese sauce because there was a ton of it. Secondly, the recipe called for the prosciutto to be added after baking, but I added it earlier because I think crispy prosciutto is the best thing ever.)

plated-september-2016-pizza6

After a few minutes in the oven, I removed the pizza and topped it with arugula (dressed with a little lemon and olive oil) and balsamic glaze.

plated-september-2016-pizza7

The flavor of this pizza was great, but there was a little too much cheese sauce for my liking. (I also couldn’t get over the fact that the sauce reminded me of macaroni and cheese.)

Meal #2- Chicken Marsala with Roasted Fingerling Potatoes

Calories per Serving: 710

Cook Time: 35-45 minutes

plated-september-2016-chicken1

My second meal pick this week was Chicken Marsala— such a classic!

plated-september-2016-chicken2

To begin, I tossed fingerling potatoes with mustard, olive oil, rosemary, salt, and pepper, and baked them in a hot oven until crispy.

While they baked, I cooked the mushrooms, set them aside, and then cooked the flour-dredged chicken in the same pan.

plated-september-2016-chicken3

When the chicken was cooked through and crispy, I removed it from the pan and made the marsala sauce by combining the cooked mushrooms with marsala wine, heavy cream, chicken stock, parsley, and lemon juice and reducing the mix until it thickened.

plated-september-2016-chicken4

I’ve never made chicken marsala at home before, and I’m so impressed with how this dish turned out! I’d be impressed if I received this meal in a restaurant, so I’m thrilled that I was able to make it at home. The sauce was rich, tangy, and creamy, and the potatoes and chicken were perfectly cooked. I think this is one of the best dishes I’ve ever received from Plated. It was incredible.

Meal #3- Dover Sole with Apple Salad and Roasted Potatoes

Calories: 460

Cook Time: 30-40 minutes

plated-september-2016-sole1

My last pick for this box was Dover Sole with Apple Salad and Roasted Potatoes. I’ve never seen Plated offer Sole before, so I jumped at the opportunity to give it a try.

plated-september-2016-sole2

The potatoes for this dish were almost identical to the ones I made with the chicken marsala, which was okay by me since they were so good.

plated-september-2016-sole3

I roasted the mustardy potatoes in the oven alongside slices of apple and fennel.

While they baked, I cooked the filets of sole in butter with some dried herbes de Provence. I’m usually okay at cooking fish, but I have to be honest that I absolutely butchered the poor delicate sole fillets. I only managed to keep one in tact (for the photo below), and even that was a struggle. Luckily, the mangled fish was still delicious, even if it wasn’t pretty!

I plated the fish with the potatoes, and I tossed the roasted apple and fennel with some fresh arugula and a dressing made from apple cider vinegar, olive oil, and mustard.

plated-september-2016-sole4

This dish was light and flavorful. It felt very French to me, so I served it with some white Bordeaux wine. Delicious!

Verdict: This box from Plated was fantastic. I loved all three of the dishes I received, and the chicken marsala dish goes down in my Plated hall of fame. (I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!) The perceived value of a box like Plated is subjective, but, for me, it’s definitely worth the cost. I don’t always have time during the week to plan, shop for, and cook meals, and I love the convenience of having everything I need to make scratch meals delivered directly to my door. Plated’s ingredients are consistently fresh, and their recipes regularly impress me.

What do you think of my Plated meal choices for this week? Have you tried any of these dishes before?

I agree I was thinking of trying Plated but after I read several comments I believe I will try another Company similar to Plated this one is too expensive and I read several reviews That were not good.. It is to expensive for me to chance it with bad reviews That I have read.. I will try a similar company I will check out their reviews first..

I think if I ever sub a food box, it would be this one. It seems to consistently have the most favorable reviews on here. Plus, those pizzas always look amazing.

I sub to a lot of food boxes as I order nearly every single week from one or or sometimes two different companies. Been doing it for several years now. I even order my Thanksgiving meal from one in particular. Give Marley Spoon a try. Plated is one of the most expensive boxes out there. One of the great things about Marley (and Home Chef) is that they don’t charge even more money for quality fish or higher end meats. That’s one of the things that really bugs me about Plated. They are already higher priced and then they charge even more for the “good” stuff. They didn’t start out that way but they changed their pricing structure along the way.

I think their Chicken Marsala is incredible! I had it before and loved it so much, that I ordered it double this week.
