Exclusive Revolutionary Girl Utena Lunch Box - $15?

Revolutionary Girl Utena is a 90s manga/anime series about a schoolgirl named Utena who emulates a prince in terms of clothing and personality. Throughout the series she confronts various challengers who duel her for the right to possess a girl called the "Rose Bride" because whoever wins her will receive a mysterious power to revolutionize the world. This is a bento box made of sturdy plastic and stackable compartments, perfect for packing school (or work) lunches. The whole set includes two food compartments, a divider, chopsticks, and an elastic band to keep everything from falling out.

Exclusive Assassination Classroom Whiteboard - $12?

This is a cool whiteboard featuring Koro-sensei from Assassination Classroom, which is one of my favorite manga this year. The series is about a classroom of misfit students who have to figure out how to assassinate their monster teacher (Koro-sensei) to prevent Earth from being destroyed. There is a lot of comedy and action, and it's even heartwarming at times.

The whiteboard includes three Koro-sensei face magnets, each with a different mood. It has a magnetic back, a kickstand, and foam adhesives for all your placing needs. I also love that they made it unique with a black board and white marker combo.

Here it is on my fridge. The white writing looks striking against the black background.

Exclusive Back To School Phone Charm - $2?

This month's phone charm is in the shape of a spiral notebook. The notebook belongs to Yume, the official Loot Anime mascot (and the one featured in every full color poster).

Exclusive Fruits Basket Figure Keychain Set - $8?

Fruits Basket is a classic high school, fantasy, and romance series about an orphan girl, Tohru, who discovers that members of her classmate's family are possessed by animal spirits of the Chinese Zodiac. These figurines are usually found in gachapon coin machines so it's typically difficult to collect all four.

Exclusive Persona 3 Manga Vol. 1 - $13.99 (pre-order on Amazon for $11.89)

Persona 3 is based on a video game of the same name. I'm always excited to get a manga in my box, but this time it's extra special-- this series hasn't even been released in the US market yet! I'm thrilled that Loot Anime could get the book (plus an exclusive cover) to its subscribers before anyone else.

Here's the summary from Amazon:

Between one day and the next, inserting itself into reality at midnight, sits the Dark Hour. Few know about this special time that separates humans from the dangerous creatures known as Shadows. It is here that a group of students finds the ability to summon their inner selves - their "Personas" - to do battle with the Shadows before they can consume the minds of humanity.

Exclusive Digimon Adventure tri. Print Set - $9?

Digimon is coming back! Even though I was on the Pokemon side of the Pokemon vs. Digimon rivalry, this is still such a throwback. This is a set of three prints featuring the characters in the newest installment, Digimon Adventure tri. They look like they're in high school now (the art style looks different too)!

Exclusive Danganronpa Cosplay Tie - $20?

This is a soft polyester cosplay tie worn by the character Junko Enoshima in Danganronpa, an anime and video game about a group of students forced to survive, Hunger Games style, while trapped in their school.

Loot-Anime-August-2016-6b

It is a well-made tie but neither my boyfriend nor I like the design, so it will be gifted or swapped.

Verdict: This is one of my favorite Loot Anime months to date! Even though this box did not include a t-shirt, I couldn't be happier with the curation for August. I'm also a fan of the Back To School theme so that helped too. My favorite item has to be the Assassination Classroom whiteboard-- it's the perfect mix of geeky and functional. I estimated the retail value to be $78, which is around 2.5 times the cost of the subscription. I wouldn't mind if Loot Anime had more amazing boxes like this!

This was the best box to date! This is what I was hoping for when they announced the Anime box. I am not up on all the current anime series and was incredibly excited to see loot from older shows, especially the Utena bento box. If all the months were like this one I would be ecstatic.

We really liked the box this month! All the items were great. I’m totally fine with not getting a t-shirt. They were usually for anime I hadn’t watched yet anyway. My biggest problem with this box is how big the poster is now. The size when it started was good, now it’s just too big. I wish they’d go back to the smaller size. Everything else is fine, though. I liked how the box turned into a desk this month, too. 🙂
