Book Summary from Amazon:
Every woman who has ever fantasized about driving past her exit on the highway instead of going home to make dinner, and every woman who has ever dreamed of boarding a train to a place where no one needs constant attention–meet Maribeth Klein. A harried working mother who’s so busy taking care of her husband and twins, she doesn’t even realize she’s had a heart attack.
Surprised to discover that her recuperation seems to be an imposition on those who rely on her, Maribeth does the unthinkable: she packs a bag and leaves. But, as is often the case, once we get where we’re going we see our lives from a different perspective. Far from the demands of family and career and with the help of liberating new friendships, Maribeth is able to own up to secrets she has been keeping from herself and those she loves.
With bighearted characters–husbands, wives, friends, and lovers–who stumble and trip, grow and forgive, Leave Me is about facing the fears we’re all running from. Gayle Forman is a dazzling observer of human nature. She has written an irresistible novel that confronts the ambivalence of modern motherhood head on and asks, what happens when a grown woman runs away from home?
Cozy Reader Club has been doing a great job at picking a newly released and popular book each month, so I wasn’t surprised to see this in the box!
I’m only a few chapters in, but I can tell you that Forman is amazing at crafting a stressful scene. In the first few chapters when the Maribeth is experiencing a heart attack but still trying to get through all her to-do items, I felt the tension, myself!
The Jack’s Meow Small Heating Bag – Value $12
This is an all-natural heating pad (made from corn)! You just put it in the microwave for a minute, then add 30 seconds intervals until it is as warm as you want it.
I think this is a perfect addition to the box as the days are finally starting to get cooler here in PA!
Lily Brooke Vintage Silver Bangle Bracelet – Value $28
This silver bracelet includes a tea cup charm, a “My happy place” charm with a silver plated Swarovski crystal charm, and a book charm.
The bracelet is 7 inches in diameter, and you can expand it up to 8 inches (and even wider to get it on). Here it is on my wrist:
I couldn’t eat these because they have gluten in them, but my husband Eric was more than happy to help me review them!
He liked both a lot but his favorite were Salted Caramel Almond Chocolate Pearl.
And he thought that both cookies tasted even better dipped in coffee!
Good news, Cozy Reader Club included the coffee, too:
Big Island Coffee Roasters Maui Mokka – Value $11
This coffee has tasting notes of “chocolate, brown sugar, and the aroma of baking cookies” – perfect to compliment actual cookies!
Big Island Coffee Roasters Lip Balm – Value $3
Coffee-flavored lip balm? YES! This lip balm is super moisturizing, adds a little shine, and has a subtle coffee flavor (not as much as I was expecting/hoping for, but still lovely).
Verdict: This box has a value of about $76 (that’s with the discounted Amazon sale price of the box). I think that’s a good value if you sign up with the $5 off for life coupon ($60 a month). Cozy Reader Club is still on the high-end in terms of cost for a monthly book box, so it probably isn’t for everyone, but I think they do an excellent job delivering on their promise of what you can expect in a box, and everything always feels special! This box is definitely about the experience!
And now that we’re getting into fall, I’m even more obsessed with this box – make everything cozy is my current motto!
