Bullymake Box is a monthly subscription box for power chewers. You all have heard about (and seen) some of Nyx’s exploits with plush toys from dog subscription boxes so when I heard about this one, I had to sign up immediately. Nyx is definitely a power chewer! You pick your dog’s weight in 10-pound increments so this is a box for an 80-pound dog (Nyx weighs about 84 right now).

My Subscription Addiction paid for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Subscription Box: Bullymake Box

The Cost: $40 a month (save with 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions)

COUPON: Save $5 off your first box by joining their mailing list (it is a pop-up when I visit the site).

The Products: Toys and treats specifically tailored for heavy chewing dogs (no plushes).  You can also choose a “toys only” box.  Because of Nyx’s dietary issues, I went with the “toys only” box.  You can also enter specific allergy information in a box on the checkout screen.

Because Bullymake Box is customized based on your dog’s size, not every item will be the same. But, the information card lists one or two of the items you will receive.

Jolly Tuff Tosser from Jolly Pets (L/XL) – Value $9.99

This seems pretty sturdy. There is an opening where you can put treats. I think I am going to fill it up with water and freeze it. Nyx loves ice and it will keep her busy for hours.

4BF Bumpy Ball Textured Ball (L/G) – Value $9?

These are made in Mexico and only seem to be available for sale on Spanish-language sites, so I got the value by converting the price in Mexican pesos to US dollars. Anyway, it is kind of fun to get a brand I don’t typically see on the US market. One of Nyx’s hobbies is trying to fit multiple balls in her mouth and, unlike tennis balls, this doesn’t have a coating she can pull off, so I count this one as a win.

Petsport Flossy Bone (medium) – Value $5.31

Nyx likes to chew on rope toys so she has only been able to play with this under supervision (a good idea for any new toy). It’s a bit too short to tug with her but she loves it. It is supposed to freshen breath and clean teeth and gums as well, and she needs that, but it is too soon to tell if that particular aspect is working.

Petstages Dogwood Chew Stick (medium) – Value $9.49

True story. I bought Nyx one of these a few months ago in a larger size. I gave it to her and (stupidly) left her alone for a few hours. I came back and she had EATEN about 80% of it. Well. I am pleased to report that it passed through her system in about a day and a half (as little tiny bits, which I guess she gnawed off) and did not cause any lasting damage (just some really weird stools). But, I learned my lesson and she only gets this for like five minutes at a time, WHILE I AM WATCHING her closely.

Nylabone Dura Chew (original, “souper”) – Value $6.29

Nyx is a big fan of Nylabone toys going way back. They are one of the better brands for standing up to heavy chewing (they don’t last forever, though). I don’t think she has had this particular type before, but it is size appropriate, which is great.

Nyx with the stick toy. She loves these things so much. She did NOT want to let it go.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $40 for the August 2016 Bullymake Box. That is right about even with the cost of the box. Most months, we come out a little ahead, but I’m still happy. Not every month of a variable subscription is going to have the same value, and we have yet to receive any repeats, which has to be difficult since we are getting the “toys only” option. The toys are size appropriate and I always get quick responses from customer service (try the chat feature on their site; if they are not available, they will email you back pretty quickly). I show pictures in lots of other dog box reviews of things Nyx has destroyed, and the toys from this box, on average, last quite a bit longer. So if you have a destructive dog, this is definitely one to check out.

I got this box after reading the reviews. I received the first one today. It was treats and toys and it was alright – but both toys were the kind you hide treats inside and similar to kong toys and my dog has already destroyed one w/in an hour. Which left little orange pieces of the material it’s made of all over the place. I would have liked to have seen more of a variety and there was not an antler or anything like that. There were two bags of treats – for putting inside the toys and there was some kind of long treat that easily broke – I shared that among all the dogs. Didn’t seem like hardly any thought was put into the box. I’m going to go for one more month, but if it’s anything like this months then I’m cancelling. Oh and I was a bit disappointed about one thing – I should be able to go into my account and switch my choice from treats and toys to all toys. I could not. I contacted them but they said the only way to do was to cancel the order and redo it. There should be a way to change your choice, I might have been happier with the toys only choice.

Thanks so much for the review, Ragan! I have a 6 month old Golden Retriever (Mojo) who looks like he’ll be just as big as our previous dog “Big” Ben. Our friends were recently dog sitting for us with their full grown Golden…I warned them to put away the stuffed toys. After a couple of toys showed up with missing arms, they got the idea. I’ll be sending them a thank you Bark Box, but when our pup gets a bit older, we’ll have to sub to the Bullymake Box. It looks perfect!

Nylabones scare me so much. My Ava is such a big chewer but she always eats these toys… No matter how much I watch her. I guess as a doggie mom I don’t fully understand making a dog chew toy out of something dogs can ingest safely. Seems counterproductive to me.

Ragen, had to LOL about your NYX story on the nylabone. There is only one kind I can get for my two that is actually chewable (still happy about the 3x $50$ antlers we got for $9.95 each – wrong posted price!)
I need to order this but I want to use my papal balance so I’m going to call on Tuesday. Keely and Ranger aren’t spoiled – nope not at all

Hi Ragan,
Since you mentioned you have pet birds in a past review I was wondering if you had heard anything about “Squawk Box”? I would love to see a review! I noticed they have a discount offer this weekend so I may just go ahead and order. But I am curious about the toys vs treats ratio . Thanks

Ragan

I have heard of that one and I actually have in a request to start reviewing that one. (I would be getting the small version if it happens because my “parrots” are parakeets and cockatiels!)
