The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full size and sample beauty items.

Vegan Cuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Each Vegan Cuts Beauty Box comes with an information card detailing the items for that month.

vegancutsbeauty-august-2016-adorn

Adorn Cosmetics Mineral Loose Illuminizer – Value $5

This is an Australian brand that is new to me, so that’s cool. This is kind of shimmery and totally the wrong color to work as an illuminizer for my skin tone (swatch below), but it will be a great eyeshadow. I do wish there had been a little shaker top with holes because I am afraid I will drop and spill the little pot, but I’ll try to be careful. (I took the value from the information card because I have no idea of the size and you can only buy this from an Australian site anyway.)

vegancutsbeauty-august-2016-dermae

Derma E Purifying Daily Detox Scrub (0.5 oz) – Value $1.94

I have this in full size already (as in, before I received this box). I love this stuff in particular, and the Derma E brand in general. This has activated charcoal to really help clear out the pores. And I exfoliate frequently so scrubs are appreciated. I will be using the coupon code to pick up a few things.

vegancutsbeauty-august-2016-pacifica

Pacifica Color Quench Lip Tint in Sugared Fig (full size) – Value $5

Confession time. I had several of these from a Pacifica order (some massive special edition collection with a bunch of their products) that I just got rid of because I never used them. I don’t do tinted lip balm, which is what this is, really. I am of the “go bold or go home” philosophy when it comes to lip color, and this is nearly the same color as my lips.

That being said, I like Pacifica as a brand and this product will work for a lot of people. It is moisturizing, too.

Green and Gorgeous Organics Lavender and Bergamot Dry Shampoo (1 oz) – Value $7.99

Dry shampoo is another thing I don’t typically use. (Here’s another confession: I have color-treated hair and I shampoo it every single day. Often, I use shampoo with sulfates! My hair is still in good shape and retains its color pretty well.)

However, I do like to keep a little bit of dry shampoo on hand for emergencies. Like the time Nyx got sick and I had to spend an hour cleaning up after her and then go back to work all sweaty, or every now and then when I use too much of a new hair oil by accident. This is a nice size and I generally find that I like the powders (like this) much more than the aerosol dry shampoos. I tried a little out and this seems suitable for dark hair colors, which is nice.

Deco Nail Lacquer in Petite Palm (5 mL) – Value $12.50

This was one of the spoiler items for August. It looks like subscribers could’ve received several different shades. I’m happy with this one as I have been really into the pale blues and greens lately. This is 8 free (I’m not sure what the 3 things above 5 free are…). I am planning to do a manicure with it, probably with glitter on top, over the weekend.

This is some spendy polish, by the way. This is 0.17 fl oz for $12.50 whereas Juleps are $14 (or $11.20 for Mavens) for 0.27 fl oz. Other polishes are usually 0.5 fl oz for full size bottles.

Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Wipes (30 wipes) – Value $5.99

It is not often that you see drugstore brands in Vegan Cuts, but the nice thing about it in this case is, it’s a full size container! I love skincare with charcoal in it; I really think it helps clean up the pores. These were gentle and non-irritating when I ran one over my face. I probably won’t use it for actual cleansing, but just freshening up on weekend days when I am not wearing makeup. I actually needed something to use for that purpose so I was happy to see this product.

Apologies that this is a little blurry; the photo is somewhat enlarged compared to the actual size of my arm. On top is the Pacifica lip tint and on bottom is the Adorn Illuminizer.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $38.42 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty. Although not every item was for me, I think the overall curation is pretty good, with some skincare, some color cosmetics, some haircare, etc. The value is fairly evenly spread out among the items (with a few exceptions) so even if you don’t like one thing, you can still get some benefit out of the box. Plus, the value is $15-16 over the cost of the box, which is good, especially for natural, vegan sorts of beauty products. Overall, this is a pretty dependable box month-to-month, and I especially like the products with charcoal in them from this month!

What do you think of the August 2016 Vegan Cuts Beauty?

Oooh i love pacifica lip tint! If you want to swap it I’m in! A bunch of people still have the one listed from popsugar 2-3 years ago which is when i first tried it and i really dont think the older ones could be any good at this point.

Ragan, I liked this review, because you weren’t over the top excited, but wanted to give us all the pros and cons. And I liked your personal reasons for your own choices

Thanks. Usually I am pretty easy to please. And I am willing to try most beauty products at least once (except self tanner, and also no more natural deodorant for me…). But, not every item is going to work for every subscriber. That’s just how it is with beauty boxes. Plus, my reasons for not being thrilled with a product don’t apply to everyone, so if I explain, that can still be useful information for someone with different preferences.

I use lip balms (and I agree, this is more of a tinted lip balm than anything) on days I don’t wear makeup, so this will go into my collection for that purpose — I don’t really care if they’re tinted or not, as the days I don’t wear makeup tend to be the days I don’t leave the house and my dog and cat don’t seem to care whether my lips have tint or not (and if they do care they haven’t shared their opinion with me – yet). I don’t ever use dry shampoo, so that’ll go into the pile of swap extras. I do use wipes in the mornings when I have to get up too early to go through my whole skincare routine, or in the evening when I’ve worked too much (there are days when I put in 14+ hours), haven’t worn makeup and am just too tired to do much more than push a wipe over my face. I like the Yes To brand, so these will definitely get used. I like the rest of the box, too.

Ok just fell in love with you when you said you have color treated hair and use sulfate lol.

Very much liked your review! I’m always on the lookout for vegan brands, especially because I’m only so so about Pacifica. It’s ok, but nothing has yet been a standout for my niece or myself. I know there are a lot of international companies putting out new vegan and CF products, and if they would start adding in some of those I’d sign up ASAP. I’m definitely gonna continue to watch the reviews. Many Thanks for the post!

I’m a big fan of Vegan Cuts. I received a clear base/top coat nail polish (much better for me than a pastel color!), and the vanilla hibiscus lip balm, a lovely light pink color. I actually prefer more neutral lip colors, and rarely wear lipstick, so this is a great fit for me. Just be careful when opening the dry shampoo – the first time I tried to twist the top, it caved in. Luckily, Vegan Cuts promptly sent me a form to request a replacement next month.

Haha, my favorite lipstick right now is “F Bomb” from Urban Decay. It is about as bright red as you can get. I will also wear fuchsia, berry, purple, orange, etc. I feel much more confident doing a good job with lipstick than with eye makeup though, so maybe that is part of it.

I am fine with pastels for nails sometimes as long as I never see another pink, peach, or nude again…
