PupCrate is a subscription box for dogs. They only send treats that are made in the USA. Choose from a small dog box (0-20 pounds), a medium dog box (20-50 pounds), and a large dog box (50+ pounds).  PupCrate had me in the system for a box for a smaller dog than Nyx (who is an 83-pound Rottweiler) but that should be fixed for September onward.

Included was an information card with more information about the items in the box.

Hear Doggy Plush Blow Fish (small) – Value $8.94

Hear Doggy toys have squeakers that are supposed to have a sound with a pitch so only dogs can hear it. I do know that Nyx loves the squeakers in these (you can hear the plastic of the squeaker being chewed, even if you can’t hear the squeak). This lasted a few minutes, anyway.

Earth Rated Poop Bags (one roll) – Value $0.75

You get one roll of these in every box. I like that they’re biodegradable. Nyx has to take like 6 fiber pills a day for her IBD so we go through many more bags than just this roll per month, but these do all get used!

Exclusively Dog Salmon and Mango Natural Dog Bone (3 oz) – Value $2.71

This is free of wheat, soy, and corn, and made in the USA, all of which are great. This also has no added sugars. Nyx can’t have fish due to her IBD so I will pass this on to a dog in my extended family.

Squeeki Tiki Dog Toy from Pet Projekt by Otomik – Value $8

I think we got the small one here, too, but you can find both small and large ones at the link above. Nyx enjoyed this (as she does with most toys) but she did eventually put a hole in the plastic (as she does with most toys…).

Elicksors No. 3 Reds (Cranberry-Cherry-Pomegranate) from The Lazy Dog Cookie Co. (6 oz) – Value $6.99

I can’t find these for sale online but I found a wholesale site with a suggested retail value, so that is what I have used here. These do have grains (rye flour, rice flour, oats, and rice bran), but there is no wheat, corn, or soy. There are also no meat-based ingredients, so they may work well for dogs with allergies to various proteins. The cranberry may be helpful with respect to urinary tract problems, and of course these are full of antioxidants.

Chow Chow Mein from The Lazy Dog Cookie Co. (4 oz) – Value $7.99

These are vegan so they should also be good for dogs with protein allergies. They have oat flour so they are not grain free. They also have pumpkin for a bit of extra fiber. The Chinese takeout carton style of packaging doesn’t seem to have much to do with the flavor, which sounds more like pumpkin pie to me than anything else (there is also ginger).

pupcrate-july-2016-nyx1

Nyx gnawing on the corner of the blowfish. This is the death knell for plush toys…

pupcrate-july-2016-nyx2

Nyx cramming the blowfish into her mouth to make it harder for me to take it away!

Verdict: I calculated a value of $35.38 for the July PupCrate. That exceeds the cost of the subscription and is better than the value for June, as well. I definitely appreciate the allergy-friendly treats, the poo bags are useful, and Nyx enjoyed the toys (I’m sure she’ll enjoy large sized toys even more!). I also like that the items are all currently in production from their manufacturers and not closeouts.

Ragan out of all the dog boxes which one would you recommend for a young puppy (8 weeks old) ???

Ragan

Since puppies are changing so quickly (when Nyx was little, she gained like 3 pounds a week!), you might want to try PupBox. They customize to your puppy’s age/breed/etc., so the stuff you get each month should be appropriate in terms of size and developmental stage. There is one review of them on MSA but of course the contents of your box would differ based on how you filled out the profile.

Thank you so much Ragan!
