PinkSeoul-Mask-July-2016-Info1

PinkSeoul-Mask-July-2016-Info2

Each box includes a detailed info card. This month the focus is on "having fun and experimenting with K-beauty"!

PinkSeoul-Mask-July-2016-1

Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel - $8

This aloe gel is a highly popular K-beauty product and I'm happy to finally get my hands on one. It is 92% aloe vera and can be used in a variety of ways. The info card suggests a few uses: boy and face moisturizer, eye mask, makeup base, after sun soothing lotion, hair treatment, aftershave, nail and cuticle essence, and DIY face mask! I like to use it as light moisturizer for the summer or combine it with other skincare for a cooling wash-off mask.

The Face Shop Mask Sheets - $3

Speaking of DIY masks, PinkSeoul included a set of blank sheet masks so subscribers can make their own aloe masks with the Nature Republic aloe vera gel! The pack includes seven sheets for your DIYing pleasure. Fold a mask into a quarter of its size, place inside a sandwich bag with aloe vera gel and/or essences, facial oils, etc., and wait for the mask to fully soak before using like you would any regular sheet mask.

PurpleTale 5 Steps to Lovely Skin Complete Facial Solution - $7.95

I was first introduced to this brand in my June 3B Box. Now, this mask has been making its rounds in various K-beauty subscription boxes! I love this kit because it is a complete 5-step facial routine. It's perfect for trips when you don't want to carry umpteen bottles of skincare around.

First, the cleanser makes my face feel clean to a fault-- the squeaky clean, friction-y feeling is too strong with this one. Next, the ampoule feels thick at first but once dried it leaves skin smooth, nourished, and without any of that sticky or residual feeling. After that is the sheet mask. It's is a two-piece gel mask that is super thin and clings to my face like second skin. Its essence is thick but does not leave my face sticky after use. Finally, the face cream and neck cream smell really amazing and absorbs quickly without leaving any residual feeling on my skin. Overall, aside from the squeaky cleanser, I love the fragrance and non-sticky formula of this skincare set.

Acwell Water Moisture Sheet Mask - $3

This mask is made with seven types of Korean traditional medicine (hanbang) ingredients and provides skin with hydration and nourishment. The mask is unusual in that it has a helix-like pattern and texture in the cotton. I don't know if it does anything special but it looks cool. The mask is thicker than most so it doesn't adhere to my face as perfectly as thinner ones. The essence is watery and does not leave my skin too sticky after use.

SNP Charcoal Mineral Ampoule Sheet Mask - $3

SNP masks feel like a staple in my PinkSeoul boxes now! I'm totally ok with that though. This is a black sheet mask that features charcoal powder for pore and sebum management. The fragrance is pretty strong but I love the mask fit and the essence. Plus, it doesn't make my face feel sticky after use.

Freeset Donkey Milk Skin Gel Mask in Healing- $3

This line of masks from Freeset is slowly rising to the top of my favorite masks list. The Healing type contains donkey milk, camellia japonica flower water, and nephrite powder for moisturizing, healing, and soothing properties. The essence is very watery so there's a lot of leftover liquid in the packaging. The sheet is thin, fits my face contours well, and leaves my face feeling refreshed without too much stickiness.

PinkSeoul-Mask-July-2016-6

The Face Shop Real Nature Sheet Mask in White Tea - $2

The Face Shop Real Nature Sheet Mask in Red Ginseng - $2

These masks contain traditional medicine and herbal ingredients. The white tea mask helps brighten and even out skin tone while the red ginseng mask has anti-aging and energizing properties. The fragrance is a little strong. I like that the sheet mask is thin so it stays on my face when I walk around. The essence feels slightly sticky after use.

PinkSeoul-Mask-July-2016-7

Etude 0.2 Therapy Air Mask in Pearl - $2

Etude 0.2 Therapy Air Mask in Manuka Honey - $2

The 0.2 refers to Etude House's new "air-like" thin sheet mask that's supposed to fit like second skin. The pearl mask has brightening properties while the manuka honey mask has anti-bacterial, hydrating, and healing properties. The fragrance is pleasant while the mask is thin and adheres closely to skin. Best of all, the essence doesn't make my face feel sticky after use!

Thank You Farmer True Water Line deluxe sample set - $2

Similar to the rise of PurpleTale, Thank You Farmer is a brand that I've been seeing make waves online. This sample set includes the Deep Serum, Light Gel Cream, and Deep Cream from the True Water line. I can't really tell much about the products from one use, but for what it's worth, I liked the Light Gel Cream the most!

Bow Hair Ties x2 - $4 each

This month's accessories are bow hair ties. They feature strong but comfortable elastics and well-made metal bows.

Verdict: July's PinkSeoul Mask Box was fantastic. There were 8 masks this time (instead of the usual 10) but was offset by the blank sheet masks and aloe vera gel. I also enjoyed the mix of familiar and new mask brands. Overall, I'm impressed by how PinkSeoul continues to push the creative limits of a face mask box. The total retail value is $45.95. Given the great curation and presentation I think it's a great deal.

Nancy, since aloe vera has been around for decades in skin cream, I’m wondering why you were so excited about the Nature Republic tub. Is it because theirs is supposed to be so much better?

I think we just saw those hair ties in another box…

I love reading about these mask boxes – they seem like real pampering, with possible results. I don’t like that they changed 10 masks to 8, however, and called it a day. 🙂

Hi Donna B., the Nature Republic has been marketed as a reeeally popular bestseller so I was excited to see what the hype was about. It’s just aloe vera gel though 😉 but I do adore aloe vera for its versatility and affordability. As for the shortage of sheet masks, I think it’s because they replaced two with the aloe vera & 7 blank masks instead. If you think about it that way I actually received 15 masks this month haha.

That’s true – I guess they don’t usually include a tub for several uses, so that counts!

Ah, yes, 92% aloe vera is almost straight plant! Am I the only one here who has bought the plant various times, told myself I would use it for my skin, and then not, and the poor thing eventually died or got too big or something? 🙁

Luna

I just used that Nature Republic aloe vera gel for the first time after a shower last week, and it is the perfect body moisturizer to use in the summer. I loved how it was lightweight, cooling to the touch, and it soaked into the skin so quickly, yet it left my skin super soft.

I know aloe vera has been around forever, but it’s never been a product that’s been on my radar until a sub box “introduced” me to it. That’s what I love about these boxes… the discovery of products that I never gave a 2nd thought about. 🙂

Helen

I really like to do DIY sheet masks. I have super sensitive skin and eyes and most sheet masks have tons of fragrance in them that I can’t tolerate. The blank masks I have are OK but don’t fit my face that great. I went to the Face Shop website looking for the ones in your photo but had no luck finding them. Do they give any other indentifying information on the package? Thanks.

Hi Helen, the full name on the back is The Face Shop Daily Beauty Tools Mask Sheet. There are other brands out there that sell blank face masks too, I just searched “blank cotton sheet masks” on Google and it gave me some results. Hope that helps! 🙂
