Luxor Box Limited Edition Black Box Review

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

LuxorBlackAugust2016-001

In addition to their bi-monthly subscription box, Luxor box also does Limited Edition boxes. This review is for their Special Edition Luxor Black Box. (No longer available).

The packaging on this box is fantastic. It’s definitely a box you will want to keep and reuse for gifting or storage. So much fun to unwrap:

And every item came in its own packaging, so you could definitely break this box down into lots of gifts.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The box comes with individual cards for each item included. First up:

LuxorBlackAugust2016-037

2 Brandon Blackwood items!

LuxorBlackAugust2016-033

Brandon Blackwood New York Dual-Texture BackPack in Suede Croc – Value $800

This piece was spoiled when the box was announced – I think subscription box companies are always smart to reveal the high-value item in a box, especially a $650 box!

I knew this piece would be high-end before I received it, but I’m even more impressed with the quality now that I have it in hand.

LuxorBlackAugust2016-032

This bag is made with a custom crocodile embossed suede upper and vegetable tanned leather bottom. The inside is lined completely in genuine suede with a zip pocket and sections for your phone, too.

The purse also has a very sturdy structure, so it’s going to keep its shape, too.

LuxorBlackAugust-198

It works great with just the handle as a purse, or you can add the adjustable straps for a backpack look:

LuxorBlackAugust-176

I love wearing black when it comes to clothing and accessories, so this will fit in perfectly with my closet. And even better, it stands out thanks to the dual texture combination. The different leather textures, plus the removable backpack straps make this a perfect blend of classic and unique.

Plus, how great are backpacks? I don’t know if I can go back to purses after experiencing the convenience of wearing this bag!

And we have a coordinating wallet!

LuxorBlackAugust2016-035

Brandon Blackwood Napa Wallet – Value $125

This is such a timeless piece!

LuxorBlackAugust2016-034

This is a leather bifold wallet that zips completely closed – I love it! If you’ve ever grabbed your wallet out of your purse only to see all your cards have fallen out in the bottom of the bag, you know why I am loving this zipper!

LuxorBlackAugust2016-036

And in the middle part is a tiny coin purse that zips out if you’d like to remove it, or just use it alone as a slim card case!

LuxorBlackAugust2016-019

LuxorBlackAugust2016-018

Halcyon Days Zebra Black & Rose Gold Bangle – Value $295

LuxorBlackAugust2016-016

This bangle is made of brass then plated with 18kt gold and enamel. It has a good weight to it, and the quality of the hardware and snap are great, too.

LuxorBlackAugust2016-017

The hinge design is so slick! You just press down on one side of the button to release the hinge, and it slides into place and locks on its own.

I think it looks lovely on its own, but would be great to mix with other rose gold and black pieces for a mutli-bracelet look. Here it is on:

LuxorBlackAugust-217

LuxorBlackAugust2016-009

LuxorBlackAugust2016-005

Mottahedeh Heirluminare Two Votives with Tray – Value $245

No surprise – the packaging on this set is amazing and definitely something to keep and re-use.

LuxorBlackAugust2016-006

This set is a combination of efforts from Mottahedeh & Company, a luxury porcelain design company, and Vila Hermanos, “a small prestigious candle factory located in Spain.”

LuxorBlackAugust2016-007

The candles are made from 100% natural wax (no palm oil) and fragranced in Grasse, France.

Subscribers may receive one of four versions: Green Lace, Cobalt Blue Lace, Cornflower Lace, or Green Apple Lace.

LuxorBlackAugust2016-008

This is such a stunning set. The candle is a mix of scents, with top notes of bergamot, lemon, mandarin flower. It’s a sweet, fresh scent, and not too strong, either.

LuxorBlackAugust2016-015

LuxorBlackAugust2016-011

Mary Jurek Design Silhouette Scalloped Bowl – Value $90

Luxor Box has sent out Mary Jurek Design items before, and I am becoming a big fan for one big reason – these pieces look amazing, AND they are dishwasher safe! They are made from 18/8 Stainless Steel, and completely safe to use for serving food, too.

LuxorBlackAugust2016-012

Fancy + easy to clean = YES!

LuxorBlackAugust2016-013

This piece measures 7 inches across, and would look great on a vanity, too.

LuxorBlackAugust2016-030

LuxorBlackAugust2016-020

LuxorBlackAugust2016-023

Rose et Marius Velvet Pouch – Value $80

(Colors may vary)

This pouch measures 9 by 12 inches, and would be great for small tech gear (kindle, ipad, etc.) or beauty products.

LuxorBlackAugust2016-024

LuxorBlackAugust2016-025

It has a velour finish inside and out, and of course, I think the best part is the classic Rose et Marius pattern.

Here it is with a few items to better show scale:

LuxorBlackAugust-166

LuxorBlackAugust2016-026

Rose et Marius Perfume – Value $100

LuxorBlackAugust2016-027

This perfume bottle design is meant to be on display! So gorgeous! The crystal bottle is made in France, and I love the old style aspirator bulb to spray the perfume – so fancy!

LuxorBlackAugust2016-028

The scent itself is floral and sweet. The top notes are Iris Florentina, fennel blossom, wild immortal.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $1735. I can’t believe I just wrote that! The value is great, and while this was an expensive box, I think Luxor Box did a great job at delivering quality pieces and brands. Everything is very classic so it should be usable for years to come, and I appreciate that everything is also ready to gift if it isn’t a good fit for you.

What do you think of the Limited Edition Luxor Black Box?

  1. What did I do to get a bunch of unwanted poop? Who do I complain to? They don’t allow accounts, and they don’t have accessible customer service. What a disappointment (and a waste of money).

    • What color Rose Et Marius pouch did you receive? If it’s either pink or blue I would be interested in purchasing it.

      • Hi Sammee! I received the blue. Do you swap?

        • I’m signed up for swap but I don’t have anything listed – basically because I just don’t sign up for many boxes. I’ll look you up to see if I have anything you may be interested in, but if by any chance you’re interested in a sale, please contact me at: ivanna59 @ hotmail dot com. I’ve been admiring the blue pouch for a while 🙂

  2. This box is amazing and I didn’t believe the value of the candles until I saw them in a store myself for $245. The backpack is fabulous and I can’t wait to use it for fall. The only thing I’m not excited over is the pouch and I can’t wait to swap.

  3. I received my box on Saturday and LOVE everything!!! I have the bracelet on today and have received numerous comments. Luxor Box is hands down my favorite sub…and I have many. 🙂

  4. Dang I wish I would’ve pulled the trigger! I was afraid to with everyone saying it was gonna be junk from some last box everyone hated ? I’m so sad…but did I NEED any of this? NO! Would I have actually used any of it? Maybe the perfume…so…it’s prob good I didn’t, but I still feel I missed out…yes that’s an addiction…at least I recognize it! Lol! Had that have been a promis of that high value filled with beauty products…id have bought it…and seriously I could open a sephora!

  5. I absolutely love this box. Not that interested in the wallet, so I will be putting that up for swap.

    • Happy to see you love yours, too! I’m super happy with mine. Put the bracelet on immediately, Did you notice that for the wallet, there is a thinner part that zips out and you can carry it separately. It’s nice.

      • I so very much love the bracelet. I was not expecting that at all so it was definitely a wonderful surprise! I still haven’t opened the wallet because I want to swap it so I figured there’s no need to open it. Do you recall weeks ago when we were allowed to purchase one of the other Brandon Blackwood items including the cat and the shark coin pouch?

  6. Please let me know if anyone wants to swap the wallet! I have some high end jewelry up for swap, such as Rivka Friedman and Kendra Scott.

  7. Liz I love your new profile picture! It looks like you now haha Great box review. One day when I’m not a college student I will subscribe to all of these fancy boxes. Is it bad that fancy subscription boxes is motivation to get a great job once I graduate? #lifegoals

    • Yes!!! You looked lovely with blonde but I LOVE brunette on you! You look like two completely different women!

  8. Gosh I bet you wish you could just keep pulling stuff out of that gorgeous box like a magic hat box….. Those items are to pretty to use. I would end up stashing it in my closet and pulling it out to look at my pretties every few weeks. Great beautiful box that hopefully someday I can afford. Love the photos and your review like always liz…. ? Hey now this would be a sweeeeeet giveaway to have….. Ha ha yeah right… Kidding..

  9. Aw man ? I wish I wasn’t broke as heck..the croc bag, bracelet, & parfume are AWESOME!! *sigh*

  10. I absolutely ADORE that backpack!!! Just wish i could afford it. UGH! Seriously, i need to know how to get a job doing this myself? This is my dream job!!

  11. Beautiful and helpful review as always. My box is on its way. Liz, do you mind answering a question for me? The perfume, you note that it has fennel blossom notes. I don’t know if the blossoms have the same scent as the fennel (I’ll research that) but does the perfume have a licorice or anise smell to it? I don’t want to open it if it does so the packaging can be intact for a trade–I can’t stand that aroma–bleeech!

    • I have to admit, I’m not skilled at describing scents/perfumes, but I don’t detect any anise/licorice scent. Hope that helps!

      • It does very much, thank you!

  12. OMG that backpack is AMAZING! sigh……

  13. I don’t have very luxe taste. This box does nothing for me which is good…as it’s worth 3 months of my car payments ?

I do think the backpack is unique and very practical. Smart of them to include a versatile piece that covers the cost of the box.

  14. I actually like pretty much everything in there. But $650 would pay for two months’ worth of visits to the veterinary ophthalmologist for Mr. Kitty…

  15. Maybe I’m in the minority – but thank God I didn’t waste such a load of $$$ on this box. Seems like Luxor’s target demographic keeps getting older and older and I’m so sick of all of the gold jewelry… No thanks, I can drop that cash on some things I REALLY want!!!

  16. I am SO glad I purchased this box! The more and more I see the pictures I am falling in love and it hasn’t even officially shipped! I wonder if they will do this again and how often, to be honest I wouldn’t want to miss out on another black box and I think for curation purposes it would have to be like a year out to make it Ah-Mazing again.

  17. That backpack! *swoon*

  18. Yeah, a little box envy going on here too. I too love the bag more now that I saw the review photos. And that wallet! And the tray with the votives is not something I would have paid the RV for but it really is beautiful The “sold out” pouch is the only thing that leaves me cold, because it looks like it would pick up dirt easily being velvet in such a light color. And the size/shape does not look all that useful to me. But overall, wow, what an amazing box!

  19. Amazing!!! I had no interest in that backpack, until I saw you with it! Seriously, every box should send you their hero items first.
I recently pulled the trigger on the September Luxor Box because of the bangle, sooo glad I did! I know it’s not this one, but a high quality piece of jewelry, nonetheless.

    • Thanks, Joanna. I hope you love your September box bangle! 🙂

  20. Trying to figure out which is the item that is sold out in France. Does anyone know. Love the box except for the backpack. Not into that.

    • I think a prior spoiler said that it was the Rose et Marius Velvet Pouch.

  21. I want that bracelet!!! Omg gorgeous!

  22. OH. MY. GOSH. I’ve been waiting for this review since they revealed this box, months ago. I couldn’t spend $650 and I didn’t want the backpack, but I would have spent $350 on everything else. Wow! I’ve been wanting a Brandon Blackwood wallet! I want that wallet, I really want that wallet 🙂 Love the votives. Love the bowl. It might be worth joining the swap site (which totally confuses me) just for this box. Wow.

    • The swap site confuses me too. I can’t tell what people want, do you really have to look individually at everything that everyone they are following has listed? I am a member but have no idea how to use it. I feel like an idiot because I can’t figure it out and everyone else is swapping away. I would love some instructions, I just don’t even know how to start.

      • Click the follow button on the items you’re interested in and if you use the Matchmaker link it will show you people who are interested in what you have to swap and have the items you want.

      • You get a request – you look at all their pages of items and pick (it will put a check mark by) it and show your chosen items at the bottom of the page. If they have items that you follow (if you have been following anything) it will show a link at the top of their swap page – you can click on that option to see your matches – and then you can look at all their items too. You submit your choices – if they agree – they hit “accept” if they don’t agree they can either hit decline and it will cancel the swap – or they can hit counter offer and possibly add to their choices or even propose a change to your choices. You then can counter back, accept, or decline. There is a message area at the bottom of the swap page if you would like to make a comment.
After agreeing – you ship – post tracking number – you get your items – you leave appropriate feedback.

To see if you have items that other people want – you look on the left side of your main swap page “swappers following my listings”,
the options are there to also see a “matchmaker” (you have something a person wants and the same person has something you want).

        • Shoot – lost some of my sentence/paragraph breaks.

        • I’m reading this all very slowly and trying to understand 🙂 I only subscribe to a few boxes and swapping scares me (what if someone used the bowl and then they try to swap it with you?), but I really need to at least join. It’s not like that commits me to anything. I’ve been selling items I don’t want on ebay, but that takes forever. Okay, I’m heading over to swap now. EEK! I’M SCARED!

          • (Back, two minutes later. I took a look and I’m thinking “how do I join?” Then it occurs to me that I probably need to sign up for mysubscriptionaddiction! I’m in such addiction denial that I haven’t created an account here, despite reading/commenting/checking for close to a year!)

          • It’s really not complicated once you get in there and look around. People list items as used or new; it’s based on the honor system that they are telling the truth. And there’s feedback so if anyone is shady or their items aren’t what they say to be, it’s pointed out quickly. There are a number of safeguards built into the process.

        • Laura and asagaobalcony – thank you so much! I’m off to start listing everything. Thanks again!

          • Amy, thank you so much. This box was the kick in the pants I needed to finally register. I’m on the wait list now. And Kate and Laura and asagaobalcony, thanks for your information, too! Hopefully I’ll get on in time to swap the September bracelet in case I get a color I don’t like!

And Liz: Thanks for a great review. I’m happy Luxor Box pulled off a great box, because their credibility was somewhat on the line here. You can’t charge $650 without being amazing, and this makes me more likely to purchase their next big-ticket box.

          • You need to join the site and then I think Liz has a waiting list for swapping.

      • same here… I feel like a idiot . I’m a member but I don’t understand it at all. I also think everyone has the very expensive boxes for swaps and I do not.

  23. This is the Lamborghini of sub boxes! So glad we can read the review and ogle pics rather than spend the dough for real. Thank you for the review!

    • Thanks, Julie! And yes, it is a little unreal to get to review a $$$ box like this!

    • Ha Julie, I was going to say the Ferrari (I’ve raced- pick the pony for beauty, speed & handling?) of sub boxes! Not my speed (oopsie pun slip!) but I do like seeing the pretties; thanks Liz for the lovely review!

  24. That bracelet is STUNNING! Would you mind checking its circumference?? It looks like it fits you perfectly, though, which probably means it would be too small for me. The bangle spoiler by this brand for September’s regular box sounded like it was going to be waaaay too small for me, which is why I cancelled. (Stupid 7.5″ wrists. )

    • it measures 7.5 inches in circumference. Hope that works for you!

      • Thank you SO much for checking for me!! 🙂

Unfortunately a 7.5″ bangle on a 7.5″ wrist probably wouldn’t work. Bangles aren’t supposed to be tight! 🙂

  25. Liz, this review is a feast for the eyes! You made already lovely items look even more so. There’s no way I could ever take a risk on box like this, but for those who did they definitely got their money’s worth.

    • Thank you so much, AmyM! 🙂

  26. What an adorable little unwrapping video!

    • Right?? XD

    • Thank you! It seemed like we needed a way to capture how gorgeous this box was to unwrap! Glad you like it!

  27. I’m surprised the bag has a handle on the edge. I would guess it’s not meant to be carried by the handle, as it would bump into your legs as you walked, especially when it’s full. But a handle is useful when packing or grabbing.

    I like the bangle bracelet.

    • I agree, think it’s really meant to be a backpack, not a handbag. The stress on the one handle where it’s positioned isn’t going to hold up if used on a regular or even semi-regular basis. I love the shape of it, but despise backpacks. I never feel secure with them.

  28. Fabulous review of a fabulous box! Love it!

    • Thanks, Chris!!! ?

  29. I love everything in the box however I would not spend that money on this stuff as I need none of it so I am so happy I passed!

  30. What a beautiful box…I hope everyone who ordered one, loves it

  31. I am so excited to see spoilers and am beyond excited to get this box in my hands! It has lived up to my expectations.

    • Yay! So glad to hear you like it! 🙂

  32. Awesome box. I’d love to swap or buy the bracelet and the Rose et Marius pouch if anyone is interested?

    • I am not allowed to open mine I u til the 9th my bday 🙂 No One knows I have snooped online. I am thinking the bracelet is going to be too small and did not care for the pouch. Can possibly put it on the swap or whatever, just have to wait a week.

      • Ok. Let me know! And Happy Birthday!!!!!

        • will do, and thanks!! If only it was not the big 40 🙂

        • ok…bracelet is way too small!!! Like no circulation small (I am 6’1 and wear a size 12 shoe, so not surprised) How do we do this?

  33. Wow! Great box. Thank you for reviewing this Liz! I can live vicariously!

    • Thanks, Cassandra!!

  34. YAY! Liz thank you for the amazing review. SO SO SO Happy. Cannot wait to get that gorgeous bracelet. And the Brandon Blackwood. And Rose et Marius. All of it! 😀

    • ? So happy you’re happy! It’s a FAB box! 🙂

  35. I love the backpack, wallet, votives and bowl. So jealous!

  36. amazing box!

  37. I wasn’t interested in the backpack so I passed on this and boy am I happy I did. There was only 1 item that I liked so it would have been a very expensive waste. Hope those that purchased it enjoy their boxes.

  38. I didn’t order this box, but I really wanted the backpack! Overall I’m glad I didn’t purchase at such a high price tag, but I am definitely wishing I had gotten the backpack. I still have the red leather BB purse from the valentines box that I haven’t worn yet, so I just couldn’t risk this box. But I’m excited for anyone who did order. I’ll just sit her envious of you all wearing that awesome bag!!

  39. I would have liked to seen some interior shots of the Brandon Blackwood, but I just did some vicarious living through your review!!

  40. Wow! What curation! Serious box envy here.

    • What is this weird, stinging sensation I’m feeling? Oh yeah, major box envy. sigh.

      • Lol this cracked me up ?

      • More like a burning sensation lol! But yes, major FOMO. The Brandon Black bags are absolutely amazing!

      • HAHA! If the spoiler photos of the backpack made it look as good as Liz’s photos do, I would be in some serious debt right now. Major box envy but I also am still married since I didn’t spend $650 on a box soooooo…… I’ll call it a wash. 😉
