Love with Food is a monthly snack and food sampling subscription box. They send only natural and organic snacks and donate a meal to charity for each box sold. They offer a smaller “tasting” box with 8+ snacks per month, a “deluxe” box with 16-20 snacks per month, and a gluten free box with 10-15 gluten free snacks per month. This is a review of the deluxe box.

The box came with this information card, which basically directs you to their website. I have to admit, I liked the old brochures more – you could instantly tell which snacks were vegan, gluten free, etc. Now you have to read the tiny print of the ingredients lists, instead…

lovewithfood-august-2016-chips

Party Tizers Dippin’ Chips (veggie, 1 oz) – Value $0.64

I’ve gotten these in Vegan Cuts before. They are good, but I strongly recommend a dip or salsa, because the “veggie” flavor is definitely prominent.

Pop Corners in Carnival Kettle (1 oz x 2 bags) – Value $1.76

My husband and I separately took these in our lunches one day and compared notes afterwards. We decided that they weren’t bad, but neither of us was too fond of the kettle corn sweetness in a crunchy snack. I’d be interested in trying some of the other flavors, though.

lovewithfood-august-2016-coconut

Got Snacks Cinnamon Honey Roasted Coconut Chips (1.43 oz) – Value $2.08

These were delicious, but I like coconut so I am probably biased. They had a wonderful texture, as well, crunchy without being hard. I am a fan.

Goodie Girl Quinoa Choco-Chip Go-Paks (1 oz) – Value $0.92

I ate these, but I am not really a fan of hard, packaged cookies, and gluten free ones like these usually have a texture I don’t care for. I wouldn’t buy them, but I would probably eat them if I got them in another food subscription.

Toasted Coconut Toffee from Chimes (3 candies) – Value $0.33

You’ll always get a few small candies from Love with Food, and they tend to be hard candy/lollipops/etc. in summer so they don’t melt. These were new to me and I liked the combination of toffee and coconut flavors.

lovewithfood-august-2016-granola

Envirokidz Strawberry Granola Bar (0.85 oz) – Value $0.77

Envirokidz Chocolate Chip Granola Bar (0.85 oz) – Value $0.77

My husband and I split these. We agreed that we liked the strawberry one more, though neither of us could put a finger on why. The chocolate chips were a bit melted, and both were sticky. I appreciated the size – it kept the bars to 100 calories each.

Goodie Girl Cookies Midnight Brownie Go-Paks (1 oz) – Value $0.83

These kind of had the same texture problem as the quinoa chocolate chip ones. I regularly eat gluten, of course. But if you have celiac disease or a gluten allergy or sensitivity, I will say that the flavor of these is not bad, and you are probably used to things with different sorts of textures by now, so these could still work for you.

lovewithfood-august-2016-halo

Ocean’s Halo Texas BBQ Seaweed Snacks (0.14 oz) – Value $1.33

I will eat seaweed snacks but I don’t normally get too enthusiastic about them. However, I think the Texas BBQ flavor of these masks the “seaweed” taste better than about any other seaweed snacks I’ve had. These are high in iodine and they are vegan and gluten free.

Stoneridge Orchards Montmorency Cherries (1 oz x 2 bags) – Value $1.82

I’m pretty sure I’ve had these before. At any rate, I have always enjoyed dried fruit and especially cherries (but not raisins…) so I was happy to see these.

lovewithfood-august-2016-sheffa

Sheffa Zesty Snack Mix (0.75 oz) – Value $1.25

I expected to like this more than I did. It was lacking in flavor for something labeled “zesty,” plus the small pieces were too small to eat with my fingers and the larger pieces were kind of hard.

Peanut Butter Co. Mighty Nut Powdered Peanut Butter in Vanilla (0.85 oz) – Value $0.85

So many companies are into making powdered peanut butter now. I have been putting this in my morning smoothies (I regularly buy PB2 for this purpose but it is nice to switch it up every now and then).

Fru-Licious Fruit and Cream Smoothie (1.35 fl oz) – Value $0.31

I was first introduced to this brand through Bulu Box (Fru-Licious also makes freeze dried fruit). This is a yogurt-like snack you put in the freezer and then eat. Nutritionally, it is not much more than sugar…it did taste good, though.

lovewithfood-august-2016-coupons

There are usually a few coupons in any given Love with Food box, as well.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $13.64 for the August 2016 Love with Food Deluxe Box. That is a pretty low month for Love with Food. I did appreciate the variety of snacks but think perhaps, say, a few more duplicate items would have helped increase the value a bit. Please note that you can review snacks in your box for points to use in the Love with Food shop, although not every snack in the box appears in the shop. (You can review snacks months or even years after getting the box, which is nice.) If you purchase a multi-month subscription (and use code MSA20 to save $20 off an annual subscription or DELUXE10 to save 50% off your first box), it is a better value.

Yeah, the lack of info about the products is frustrating to me, too. For example, there’s absolutely nothing on the packaging of the smoothie thing that says it goes in the freezer, so I just kind of guessed. It would have been nice to have some suggestions about what to do with the PB powder, too.

I loved the candy. That’s the only thing from the box that I’ve tried so far. The seaweed snack scared my husband from the picture on the package…LOL. I will try it though even if it’s only a nibble. I was stumped on what to use the powdered peanut butter for but I will throw it in a smoothie so thanks for that tip!!

I gave a year’s sub to my father and always ask what he likes best to see if I can buy it again. Oddly, he really liked the quinoa chocolate chip cookies, so we have a case on the way, free with my points from reviewing! They don’t even charge shipping when you use your points. He also liked the coconut chips, which was a surprise to me. I think this sub is stretching his snack comfort zone!

The stuff I want to buy again is never in the shop…they do have some sea salt caramels I love in stock right now but August is the wrong time to order that sort of thing in Georgia.
