Hamptons-August-2016-Booklet

August’s theme is “Homemade Ice Cream.”

Hamptons-August-2016-Info1

Hamptons Lane includes a booklet that details all of the items included in the box.

Hamptons-August-2016-Info2

The booklet also provides recipes and cooking tips.

Hamptons-August-2016-Info3

I also received a card promoting the add-on items for this box.

Hamptons-August-2016-Info4

Optional add-on items include hot fudge, a pop maker, and an ice cream scoop.

Hamptons-August-2016-Zoku1

Zoku Ice Cream Maker- $25.99

This thing is so cool. It’s a single serving ice cream maker that requires no batteries or electricity.

Hamptons-August-2016-Zoku2

I’ve wanted an ice cream maker for ages, but I’d held off on buying one because I live in a tiny apartment with very little storage space. This Zoku is perfect for me!

Hamptons-August-2016-Zoku3

The package includes a 3-piece bowl and plastic spoon.

Hamptons-August-2016-Zoku4

I received a green Zoku, but I believe subscribers might see some variation in the color they receive.

Hamptons-August-2016-Zoku5

Here’s a shot of the removable inner bowl. To use the Zoku, you place this piece in the freezer for a minimum of 12 hours before stirring your selected ingredients together using the plastic spoon.

(I have to give a shout out to Zoku for having some of the cutest products I’ve ever seen. Check out this adorable polar popsicle set that makes pops in shapes like polar bear, penguin, walrus, and arctic explorer!)

Hamptons-August-2016-Vanilla

Madécasse Pure Bourbon Vanilla Extract (2 oz.)- $6.49

I’m a big fan of Madécasse Vanilla, so I’m pleased to see it in this box. I think it has a great flavor that’s nicely concentrated.

Hamptons-August-2016-Jam

The Jam Stand Classic Strawberry Spread (9.5 oz.)- $9.50

For me, jam is one of those items (like coffee, tea, and olive oil) that I just never get tired of seeing in subscription boxes. I love classic strawberry jam, and The Jam Stand’s version is really tasty. It’ll be delicious on toast!

Hamptons-August-2016-Caramel

CC Made Sel Gris Caramel Sauce (4 oz.)- $5

I’ve tried CC Made products before thanks to subscription boxes, and I think they make some of the best jarred caramel sauce on the market. This Sel Gris Caramel Sauce is rich, creamy, and nicely salted.

Hamptons-August-2016-Frittle

Frittle (4 oz.)- $5.99

Frittle is kind of like a hybrid between peanut butter fudge and peanut brittle. It tastes great, and I like the slightly unexpected soft but crispy texture.

Ice Cream Party!

I was SO excited to try out my new Zoku, but I’ve been trying to eat healthy lately and ice cream really isn’t on my diet. Luckily, one of the recipes included this month is for Blueberry Frozen Yogurt.

Hamptons-August-2016-Recipe1

I’ve never made frozen yogurt at home before, but Hamptons Lane’s recipe inspired me to create a couple of low-fat and low-sugar recipes of my own! I decided to try two different recipes, and I wanted to up the healthy factor by using 0% Greek yogurt as a base for each one. For the first recipe, I decided to come up with my own take on blueberry frozen yogurt.

Hamptons-August-2016-Blueberry1

Blueberry Frozen Yogurt

5 oz. 0% Greek yogurt (I used Fage Total 0%)

1 oz. blueberry syrup

1 oz. frozen blueberries + additional frozen blueberries for garnish

Hamptons-August-2016-Blueberry2

I mixed all of the ingredients together in a bowl and then transferred the mix to the Zoku. (I made sure to freeze the inner Zoku bowl for at least 12 hours before using it.)

Hamptons-August-2016-Blueberry3

Using the provided spoon, I stirred the yogurt mix in the Zoku (making sure to scrape the sides) until it was frozen through. Since I included frozen blueberries in this recipe, the yogurt froze pretty quickly. I didn’t time it, but I’d say it was ready in less than 5 minutes.

Hamptons-August-2016-Blueberry4

I scooped out the frozen yogurt with a small ice cream scoop, transferred it into a bowl, and topped it with some additional frozen blueberries.

Hamptons-August-2016-Blueberry5

This frozen yogurt was so good! Since I used Greek yogurt, it had a nice tangy flavor, and the texture was creamy and smooth. I decided to incorporate blueberry syrup because I had some on hand, but next time I think I’ll use maple syrup instead. (Blueberry and maple is one of my favorite combinations!)

Hamptons-August-2016-Recipe2

For my second frozen yogurt, I took inspiration from Hamptons Lane’s recipe for Vanilla Caramel Frittle Swirl.

Hamptons-August-2016-Caramel1

Salty Caramel Frozen Yogurt with Frittle

5 oz. 0% Greek yogurt (I used Fage Total 0%)

1/8 t. Madécasse Vanilla Extract

0.5 oz. CC Made Salted Caramel Sauce + additional sauce for topping

Frittle

Fleur de Sel

Hamptons-August-2016-Caramel2

For this recipe, I mixed together the Greek yogurt, vanilla extract, and 0.5 oz. caramel sauce and stirred them together until fully combined. I then transferred the mix to the Zoku. This recipe took a little longer to freeze (maybe 7 or 8 minutes), but I was able to re-use the Zoku a second time without having to re-freeze the inner bowl. Score!

Hamptons-August-2016-Caramel3

When it had the consistency of frozen yogurt, I scooped it into a bowl and topped it with a drizzle of caramel (I heated the jar in the microwave for 10 seconds to loosen it up), a few pieces of frittle, and a pinch of Fleur de Sel.

Hamptons-August-2016-Caramel4

Wow. Just, wow. First of all, the CC Made Caramel Sauce is incredible. It’s rich and salty, and a little bit goes a long way. It’s delicious with the tangy Greek yogurt, and the frittle and fleur de sel make this dessert seem super indulgent. A quick note, though. I like desserts that aren’t super sweet, and this recipe is tailored to my tastes. For those who prefer their desserts to be solidly sweet, I’d recommend doubling the caramel sauce.

Verdict: I’m completely in love with my new ice cream maker! It’s fun, quick, and easy to use, and I love that I can now quickly make frozen yogurt whenever I want. I also like that the Zoku allows you to make small portions at a time. (Less temptation!) The Zoku is definitely the hero item in this box, but I really like the food items that Hamptons Lane sent to accompany it. If I were to purchase all of the items in this box separately, it would cost about $52.99. That’s not the highest value I’ve seen from Hamptons Lane, but it comes in over the cost of the box, so I’m happy.

So I was very excited to find, after reading you’re excellent review of the Zoku, my very own red Zoku at Bed Bath and Beyond today. It was on clearance for $7.99 with an additional 20% off sticker and then I used a 20% off coupon and ended up paying only $5.11 plus tax! ? Can’t wait to make my first batch ?

Actually it was cheaper, that was the Zoku iced coffee maker, silly me, I was so excited about my find…the original price was $25.99, the clearance tag said 8.99, it rang up $6.99, 20% off green sticker -$1.40, then my own 20% coupon -$1.12= grand total of $4.47 plus tax ?
Btw tjmaxx had a cute lavender one on clearance for $5.

I’ve made homemade ice cream way more times than I would admit in public. And I would never reveal that one recipe is permanently under a magnet on my fridge.

I have to say that I wouldn’t consider the combination of non-fat yogurt and blueberries, which is on every supermarket shelf, to be any kind of ice cream or frozen dessert at all.

The 2nd one is better, because of course, it has all the mix-ins. 🙂

Great idea with the greek yogurt plus blueberries for texture, plus it looks absolutely delicious. I will have to try the Frittle; very intriguing!

My ice cream box arrived covered in ants! Everything seems to be unharmed, but I was surprised it didn’t come in the standard blue Hampton’s Lane box (just a regular cardboard box with no extra protection), so I went ahead and sent them an email.
