GOLDEN TOTE AUGUST 2016 WAREHOUSE SALE MYSTERY TOTE - BOX

Golden Tote recently held a warehouse sale with some great deals and $45 3-item mystery totes. These were pre-packed with extra surprise items they were clearing out and sorted by size, so there was no customization or styling according to your style profile and preferences as they do with regular totes.

This is a review of one of those mystery totes!

GOLDEN TOTE AUGUST 2016 WAREHOUSE SALE MYSTERY TOTE - ITEMS 1

Le Shop Stripe Geometric Dress – value: $40

I love the shape of this dress! I generally don’t wear dresses with lower waists like this so I’m happy to try something new (and discover I like it). The print is a little busier than I normally wear, but I think I can make it work. Something a little different.

Emory Park Wrap Dress – value: $40

So, I love the idea of this dress – the print, the fact that it’s a wrap, short sleeves – but the actual dress has some issues for me. First of all, this is a large, but it’s definitely meant for someone with a smaller chest, as mine barely allows the dress to actually wrap closed. Secondly, the waist hits me too high (immediately under my bust) which probably also would be less of an issue for someone smaller-chested. Thirdly, I think this dress is also meant to have some sort of high/low thing going on or meant to show some leg because there is just not enough fabric in the front. For me, this combines with the previously mentioned fit issues and turns into just way too much leg, even standing still. Forget walking/propelling forward in any way, causing the material to fly back/open, and sitting is just not an option for me in this unless I want to give the whole world a show. So, unfortunately, I will have to find someone this fits so much better.

Printed ¾ Sleeve Tunic – value: $30

This tunic (tunic? Dress? Dress for only short women but tunic on tall ones?) actually doesn’t have a tag, so I don’t have a brand to offer you. I really like the way this tunic fits and that it would work with skinnies (as shown) or leggings. I think the faded colors in the print wash me out a little, though, so I may not hold onto this item for myself either.

Verdict: All things considered, this was a relatively unsuccessful mystery tote for me. It was almost good, but just not quite. On the Golden Tote Buy/Sell/Trade Facebook group, many women have done “reveals” of their mystery totes and I have seen some awesome ones! I, however, seem to have essentially paid full-price for one dress I might wear. Not a win. I would say I might not order anymore mystery totes in the next warehouse purge GT does, but let’s face it: I probably won’t be able to resist. It’s too exciting – the gamble, the risk, the suspense! How can I not?

Sincerely,

A true, classic subscription box addict.

Maybe your tunic is Renee C. I have a maxi skirt in an almost identical pattern, just cooker colors

LOVE the tunic on you. It doesn’t appear to wash you out at all! We have similar coloring and I would snap that up in a heartbeat (IF Golden Tote had plus sizes …). I think you should keep it.

I think the first dress would look great with a solid bright jacket over it, to break up the busy pattern. Second dress is a miss. Tunic is lovely – I think because your hair is darker than the print you feel it washes you out. If you wear it back, I think the colors are great with your skin tone.

the wrap dress might be better with a bright belt…. the other pieces look fantastic!

I agree the tunic is way cute on you. Also don’t hide from busy patterns, you pull them off nicely. I’m not a huge fan of the wrap dress though

The print of the wrap dress is super cute on you! Maybe you can wear a spaghetti strap tank or even a slip to make it work?

That first dress look amazing on you!!!

I agree with everyone else, keep the tunic! You may love it more come fall, with some cute leggings! 😀

I think the tunic is cute, but I get why you are saying that it washes you out. I don’t know if you would find it too fussy and too much “work” to make it better when you don’t love it, but a dark belt to break up the expanse of light colors would make a big difference. Just a thought.☺

Keep the tunic!!

The wrap dress might be saved if you have a short solid colored dress with a scoop neckline. It would cover the skin that you’re concerned about and layering is great for transitioning into fall!

I got the tunic but it doesn’t fit me well. Are you on the gt fb group? I have been so busy with work but I plan on taking pics and posting what didn’t work for me.
