GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – August 2016

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

Glossybox-August-20161

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe-size or full size, and the value is usually really good too. The only issue with this box seems to be the late shipping – I would recommend just keeping that in mind and setting your expectations accordingly if you sign up for this box.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Glossybox-August-20162

FYI: GlossyBox sends out multiple variations of the box during some months. So, there may be some variation between what I review and what you receive.

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included.

Glossybox-August-201614

Too Faced Mascara Melt Off Cleansing Oil -.04 oz Value $3

I love the Too Faced brand, so I was excited to try this new product! This Melt Off Cleansing Oil is basically the first step in removing mascara. First, you apply it to your mascaraed lashes, wait 60 seconds, then remove with a makeup remover wipe.

It seemed to me like this was adding an additional step to my makeup removing process, not removing or replacing one, so I was already a little skeptical when I tried it.

The good news is that it did make my mascara easier to remove. (I even tried it with Too Faced’s Waterproof Mascara and had decent results.) This wasn’t enough of a groundbreaking product to make me buy it in the future. I’ll use my sample up, then go back to taking a few extra swipes with the makeup remover wipes to remove all my mascara.

Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait Lipstick – FULL SIZE Value $19

This shade is “Guilty Pug,” and it is officially my favorite lipstick case design of all time! So cute! The formula itself is great, too. It’s vegan, cruelty-free, and also free of parabens, phthalates, etc.

Here it is swatched:

Glossybox-August-20161-2

The formula is smooth and moisturizing. It has a tropical flavor, and the color is buildable. (That swatch above is three swipes.)

Glossybox-August-20164

Invisibobble – Value $8

This hair tie set is great if you normally get creases in your hair from other hair ties. I like these for working out, too – they keep my hair in place without any annoyance from a tight hair band.

Glossybox-August-201611

Wella Oil Reflections Smoothing Oil – 1 oz Value $11.80

This oil is very light and didn’t weigh my hair down at all. I used a few drops to damp hair for conditioning, and then also used it the next day on dry hair to add a little shine and manage flyaways.

I like the subtle scent, too. This is definitely a product I know I will use til the last drop!

Glossybox-August-201610

Borghese Fango Active Mud for Face and Body – 1 oz Value $3.20

(Subscribers will either receive a Face + Body Mud or a Body Scrub)

I tried this mud as a mask on my face, and it didn’t irritate my skin at all, but I also can’t say I saw a big difference in my skin after using it. (The instructions said to leave it on for 3 minutes – maybe I need to leave it on a little longer.)

Glossybox-August-20169

De Bruyere After Sun Lotion – 50 ml Value $12

This lotion is light and absorbs almost immediately. My favorite part about it is the scent – it’s so wonderfully beachy! And I’m happy to see this formula is paraben-free, too!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $57. I think that’s good for a $21 beauty box, and even more importantly, I’m happy with the brands and sizes of the products included. I’m hoping all subscribers get the same items this month. If that’s the case, hopefully, this is the GlossyBox comeback box. I think it is a perfect end-of-summer beauty box!

What do you think of the August 2016 GlossyBox?

  1. I signed up on August 20 using the DUSK coupon. All three of my boxes shipped together and arrived today! I am pretty happy as I felt it was a gamble reading previous reviews. Hopefully there are no issues with future shipments. I received the same August box as the review, the May box (same except different shower gel), and the December box (a sheet mask and hand cream instead of the lipstick and scrub).

I did get the Guilty Pug which I wanted bad for the package XD The lipstick was slightly tilted and partially cracked. It is apparent that it had started to melt and then resolidified. Still usable though. The color looks so fugly in pictures and in person that I didn’t really care about trying it out. I tried it anyways and happy that I did. It turns out to be basically a dark nude on me which is fantastic. The color is so unappealing in the tube that I keep expecting it to smell like, well, exactly what a pug would feel guilty about, but it smells fruity.

Haven’t played with anything other than the Guilty Pug, but out of three boxes I only see one product I will definitely not use, which is a face tanner.

    • I agree that while the lipstick doesn’t look all that great it’s actually very nice when worn!

    • I subscribed on 8/20/2016 , there was a special 2 free boxes promo, i was charged on 8/21/16 and I received FedEx shipping info on 8/24/2016. I live in Maine, my shipping info states my box started in NJ, went to TN, 2 cities Memphis and Knoxville, then onto SC then onto Atlanta where it was transferred to the USPS, it states that it has been in Atlanta on 9-2-16 and I have not gotten and shipping info updates since then…it is 9-8-2016 today. I have emailed Glossybox more than 48 hrs ago, no response, I called their CS number today. It immediately broke to a prerecorded message telling me to send an email and them cut my call off abruptly. Not happy at all with this service or this company, i should have looked at their reviews much more closely.

  2. I just really can’t imagine sombody questioning you about your comment it’s totally ridiculous, are you working for the other side lol what the heck was that about? Why would you post it ,if not to let us know this happened .Just crazy sone of the things people think they just have to say.Just thought I’d let you know I appreciated your comment, have a great day

  3. We’ll I liked everything BUT the hair ties and hair oil.I hope September’s box is amazing 🙂

  4. The smell of the after-sun lotion is intoxicating! Starting to get more body lotion, I think of it more as a light fragrance, since I’m not usually slathering it all over. And this is great.

Also, the Guilty Pug lipstick is too much! I’ll be carrying it in my purse to show it off in the ladies room. 🙂

    • Too much fun, I meant.

  5. I had a nail polish busy all over inside the box so they offered to send me replacement box. Their cs is slow but it’s great. I got duped into the 2nd box too but that’s my fault for not reading or learning beforehand. They do have to make their money. But I’m happy with August box so it not a big deal.I only canceled cuz I just have a overload of stuff right now lol but I would trust them with my money again

  6. Here’s my report on my last of a 3-mo. subscription. The box arrived today (I was never notified by email but went to my account and saw it shipped on the 11th and was to deliver today). First thing I noticed was the circular tape disk to secure the box was loose. Had noticed that the “tape” was skimpy on previous shipments and thought that wasn’t too good. Opened the box … nice pink box. Now for the disgusting surprise. I tear open the tissue paper and discover on the left half of the box is a pile of black shredded paper … and on the right half of the box are all the products … and the black ribbon that should have been around the box. Hmmm … poor execution or was somebody really rifling through my box? I will call them tomorrow to express my disgust. Am sure they won’t care. I was shocked to see the Too Faced Melt Off is such a small tube. Tried it tonight and it is more work than using a regular makeup remover, so not a win for me. I got the “exotic fruits” Trifle lip color which is the same as my skin tone and I will never wear. Makes me think these companies are selling their dud products to glossybox to dump them and get some cash for losers. I got the Wella hair oil … seems very overpriced for the size bottle. Smells kind of odd too. Oh, and they gave me hair oil last month too. Also received pink hair ties, Fango mud and the after-sun lotion … also a very odd sweet fragrance. I put some on tonight just as a moisturizer and it doesn’t seem to do much so go figure. The only good news is they didn’t give me a third bottle of cheap Kardashian nail polish.

    • I totally do NOT want another Kardashian anything! However, my experience with GB is getting worse by the day except for their agents in their CS department they are who have kept from out right cancelling my sub after being with them for almost 2 years. It is August 25 and I STILL have NOT received my August box. GB was paid on the 2nd. I have contacted them multiple times this month. I normally would have received my box by the 12th in the past. The warehouse created the label on the 9th but it NEVER shipped. GB has now told me multiple times they have contacted the warehouse and I received this reply regarding the delays today in my email:

“The warehouse just informed us that a few hundred orders this month are currently on back-order, as we are awaiting product replenishment for one of the box samples. We expect to ship out your box within the week. Once tracking information is available, it will be provided to you via e-mail.”

This is the 4th time since February that I have had issues with them. I am looking forward to using the hair holders. The fango masks are a meh. Been using their products for years. Not excited about something that is $2.86 (the too faced melt off) as I pay full price for this sub. I wonder if anyone else has experienced any of these issues and if they have not received their box this month?

    • You’re not working for the “other” side, are you? 🙂

So you are disgusted by…the fact that some things moved in the mail? Or you think Glossybox themselves decided to play with the products before they sent them to you?

You might think about calling your Post Office first, and talking with your carrier, for both of those problems.

      • This does sound more like an issue of the box resting on its side during shipment, and gravity causing the products to shift downwards.

I’m curious – What is the “‘other’ side?”

        • The Dark side? 😛

  7. It looks like Glossybox has heard us and is moving towards the right direction. I am happy with this month’s box because of fair variation and most products being useful for me. They updated their website and info sheet. If you keep info sheet like this, they don’t have to print multiple variation every month! I received the other lipstick color and “Briliante” face and body mud mask. I wasn’t too excited Too Faced products, but the rests are win for me. I hope Glossybox keep listening to their subscribers and improve their future boxes!

  8. I tried to use the “Dusk” code last week to get through buy 1 get 2 free offer and it would not work through their website. I emailed them and was told it was expired. Then I got another email stating “GOLDEN” is the same offer, buy 1 get 2 free thru August 26th. After a bit of searching I found their Web page that says the same thing. So if anyone is starting a new subscription, you may still be able to get the 2 free boxes using “GOLDEN”.

    • GOLDEN still works, thank you!!!

  9. Got my box today and pretty much received the same as Liz except I got the Borghese body refinishing polish instead of the mud mask and I got a $50 coupon off my first 2 Hello Fresh boxes.

    • LOL, I keep getting those, too and have yet been unable to pawn them off on someone. So, they get tossed out with the box.

  10. My goodness Glossybox finally steps it up as soon as I cancel! What the heck!? And they upgraded the pamphlet, so cute!!! #storyofmylife

  11. I am not pleased with GB. I signed up in july to get the 2 free boxes. They immediately charged me for july and august. So I ended up paying 42.00 for 4 boxes. Some of the boxes were nice and some were not. The shipping was very fast for me. I received august box on the 8th. But i tried to cancel after it shipped and the website was not working right. I managed to cancel today but it says i still have to pay for Septembers box. I don’t want septembers box. Thats why i cancelled. I could spend that $20 on 2 other sub boxes and end up with at least 10 items instead of 5. So i have spent $64 in 3 months for GB. It definately was not worth it to get 2 free boxes.

    • Sorry to hear that. My experience with GB wasn’t good either. Really stinks how they “got’ you for an extra box. I’ve seen posted on other sites that some people have experienced a few months down the road GB randomly charging their credit card again. So watch out for that too. Oh joy, right?!

    • I had the same experience. I cancelled just a few days after I placed my order but it was after their deadline, which I believe is the 15th so I will be receiving septembers box as well. I didn’t realize we had to cancel so early. I still don’t see where they tell you about this except for buried in their terms and conditions. They should make this clear on the order page.

      • My sister wrote about this issue for a consumer advocacy site (Elliott.org). The article was published on 8/1. Not sure if I can post the direct link to the article.

    • Hi, Becca,

I’m hoping you can answer a quick question for me, please. 🙂 I ordered the GB with the Dusk offer earlier this month, but haven’t received anything yet. Did you get the 1 box you paid for plus the 2 free boxes delivered at the same time, or did the free ones come separately? I’m getting a little worried about all these negative comments. I didn’t know anything about these issues before signing up – I had just seen some cute products from Glossybox up for swap so I figured I would give it a try. I have to go check to see how much I was charged! Thanks!

      • I received all 3 boxes in one large box. It took a couple of weeks to get them. The extra boxes never showed up in my order.

        • What boxes did you get?

          • I never looked to see, but I did get the red box. I was pleased with every item that I received…they will all get used. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

      • Hi Becca, my daughter received all three boxes at once in a big box. That was around the beginning of the month. Then she got her regular box at the same time as I did- which was about when the review was posted.
She got the box with the Nuxe Shimmer, the Tony Awards Box, and one with the Norell Perfume in it. She’s thrilled with everything she got and we both have no issues with the timing of the charges being put on my credit card ( she wanted the sub for her BD).
I purposely avoid the sneak peeks because I want it to be a surprise. Plus the negative posts do nothing but annoy my otherwise cheery disposition. To each their own, it’s their money not mine so they have every right to be displeased if they want.
I previously had GB for almost a year until I became overwhelmed with products. That’s the only reason I stopped. I’m glad to be back!

      • Yes i received all my boxes together. The one i paid for and the two free boxes. They shipped really fast too. I received them about five days after i subscribed. I haven’t had any problems with shipping at all. My august box arrived on the eighth way before any of my other sub boxes.

      • I also signed up for the 2 free boxes. I can say with certainty that I am incredibly pleased with them… there was a bit of a lag in shipping but I reached out and got a prompt reply (within 48 hours). My first box (Aug) arrived within 7 days and a second larger box containing the 2 free boxes arrived 6 days later. My free boxes were great! (I got variations on July and April boxes). There was great variety (makeup, skin care, tools, hair, and parfume). There were even a couple extras that weren’t on the card. All together, my free boxes totalled almost $300 in value.

  12. Received this box today, and was very happy with it! I received the box that Liz reviewed. That lipstick with the pug on it is so cute 🙂 I love their box presentation. I signed up last month and have received a total of 4 boxes from Glossybox, I really liked all of them. I might not use everything that was in them, but I can gift them if I do not. I think this box has a really good value for the buck and it is fun trying new things. I had to cancel next month due to too many subs and a bit of a tight budget. Hope to resub soon.

  13. I was happy with this box. Glossy Box typically pleases me.

  14. I got my box today. I received the mud mask and the Exotic Fruits lip color. And, I agree, the after sun lotion smells amazing.

  15. I’m pretty happy with this box. I got the light pink colored lipstick and I’m really pleased with it. I also really like the hair oil, the Invisibobbles, and the mud mask I got.

I don’t really need after sun lotion or another eye makeup remover, so I put those up for swap.

  16. I got almost the same box, except that I got the Borthese body polish instead of the mud pack. My teen daughter loves scrubs so she’s happy with this, though it doesn’t smell that great.

I found the rest of the box OK for the $9 I paid with an annual subscription. The lipstick is just too cute, my youngest daughter took it. It’s a very light color, which is great for both of us. But I don’t know that I like the cardboard container, I feel it’ll get banged around.

I liked the after sun lotion, it’s very light and it has an enticing milky smell. It’ll get used. My daughter was also happy with the waterproof mascara cleansing oil, I hope it’ll work for her.

I put the Wella “oil” to swap. I don’t use hair oils, even those like this one that are not “oils” at all – just silicones. Not sure whether to keep the hair things or not. I have a feeling my daughter would treat them more as a toy than anything.

    • Hi Nana,

How much did you box weigh? i received the box with the body polish too, but I had two missing items 🙁 the lipstick and the hair ties!

      • My box is also missing the lipstick and the hair ties! Both items are printed on my card so I know they’re meant to be there.

        • Hi Marilyn!

We’re so sorry to hear you’re missing items from your August box. If you send an email to contact@glossybox.com, our team will be sure to take care of you!

          Best,

          Hillary from GLOSSYBOX

          • I am missing the lipstick, pony tail holder, and the mascara remover. Not only was your customer service number closed on Saturday when it should have been open per the automated message, my email to customer service has gone unanswered. Epic fail glossybox.

          • I was happy with the items in the box, but my lipstick was broken. it’s too bad, because I liked the subtle color & formula. I tried using it anyway until it fell out on the floor the 3rd time I opened it.

      • Hey Silvia!

So sorry to hear you’re missing items from your August box. Please send an email to contact@glossybox.com, and our team will take care of you!

        Best,

        Hillary from GLOSSYBOX

    • Nana, I received the same box you did! I’m thrilled this month, mainly because I received the items that were highlighted as spoilers! I will use all the products – the hand lotion is divine and the scented softness lasted for hours. The oil has left my thick hair so soft and shiny. I applied the mascara oil before I entered the shower and was very happy with the results and slight feeling of them being soft and conditioned. Let’s hope Happy Glossy Days are ahead!! So much more fun reading reviews of delight.

    • How’d you get this box for $9? Was there a sale on annual subs?

    • Hi. Where did you get the offer for $9 box with an annual subscription?

      Thanks,
      M

      • I think she’s referring to the Gilt City sale on annual subs which occurred in November (I think) 2015. It brought the boxes down to the equivalent of $8 plus change/box.

  17. I just posted about the “Filled with Love” LE box (comment not showing, probably in moderation bc it contained a link to the GB site). Ignore it if it shows up. I didn’t realize that it was the Mother’s Day box because it is no longer billed as such. MSA already reviewed it!

    • See above – this was the Mother’s Day box, nothing new, MSA already reviewed it. My mistake!

    • I purchased this box in mid-June for $29.00. LOVED IT! Will purchase another if they put it on sale again.

      • Me, too! Total score on that. High five!

    • I bought this box back in June but still haven’t received it. I did receive two identical July boxes, so I wonder if that’s them trying to make it up to me, which definitely didn’t work considering the Mothers day box is twice the price of a reg box. I’ve been exploring the world of Sub boxes over the past year and so far I think Ipsy is at the top of the list, Glossybox loses points for its poor customer services and communication. (Not that anyone asked, but the worst customer service for a box definitely comes from Z-Box (Zavvi), good luck trying to cancel, I had to get a new bank card to stop them from charging me.

  18. I got the same box except a different mask and a different shade of lipstick. I haven’t tried everything yet, but all the products seem useful yet not boring, so I’m happy. This month’s box felt better curated than usual and very summery (though I think this is partially due to the cute booklet they sent instead of the card). So far, my favorite item is the invisibobble. Using it for a messy bun feels soooo much more comfortable than my usual elastic hairties. I don’t know if I can go back!

    • Glad you liked invisibobble. I was a little less enthused, but I don’t think they’re bad or anything. Just FYI, you can buy them at Nordstrom’s website, which always has free shipping with no minimums, in multiple colors. They sometimes go on sale, which is how I got dark brown ones (to match my hair) for about $3.50 for a set of three.

      • Good to know, thanks!

    • Hi Elizabeth,

I just got my box today and was missing two items 🙁 Do you happen to know how much your August glossybox weigh?

      • Silvia, my FedEx tracking says 2.5 lbs / 1.13 kgs, but I don’t know if that is accurate. Hope that helps!

        • That’s what mine says, so I’m hoping for the same box, especially after last month’s enormous disappointment.

        • Thanks Elizabeth! It does help even though I got the body polish instead, but I will be contacting glossybox about my missing items.

        • Oh no! Mine only says 1.4 lbs. Ugh, I hope it is not another crummy box like last month.

          • Mine says 0.9lbs. Im a bit alarmed given that seems a huge difference in weight to the weights mentioned above. I guess we’ll see tomorrow when its delivered.

  19. I was pleasantly surprised–my box included the lotion that was missing from the bath gel and lotion set in last month’s box.

Otherwise, I got the same box as in the review only I got the body scrub instead of the mud which I actually prefer. I don’t use scrubs that often so I love getting them in sub boxes so that I don’t actually have to ever buy them!

The lipstick is so cute and I like the color on me–however, mine is broken at the base. I can use a brush to apply it, but does anyone have any makeup hack tips on how I could fix it to make it intact again?

    • I’d contact customer service ASAP before they go out of stock!

    • apply heat (a lighter or lit match, stove burner flame) to broken bottom then hold pieces back together and set in fridge for 5 min to further set, Works 9 times out of 10

      • Ooh, I’m going to try that. Thanks!

  20. Got my shipping confirmation last night and can’t wait. Fingers crossed for the ‘Exotic Fruit’ lip color rather than ‘Guilty Pug’, though – I can’t pull off orange-y tones.

    • I wish you could see spoilers before you get your box, like with Birchbox. I did my July Glossydots surveys yesterday, and August surveys were not up yet, so I can’t tell from that even though my box has shipped.

  21. To anyone who gets the lipstick in the pug case: please keep me in mind if you want to swap it! I am worried my box will either not have the lipstick or have a different version of it, but even if I do get it, I will swap for more! TIA!!

    • I will be posting the lipstick no matter the color, I don’t wear it at all so no sense in keeping it. lol Keep me in mind too.

    • Alanna, were you still interested in the guilty pug lipstick?

  22. Whoever pointed out that GB promised over $70 worth of products in this box, I just checked their site and you’re right. What do you have to say for the lower value here GB? That’s embarrassing. And only 1 full size produces out of 6 (unless you count the hair ties, which makes 2. Also full size lipsticks and nail polish are always a cop out). What happened to mostly full size and deluxe samples? Most of these products are way smaller and what I’d expect in Sephora play, not a $21 box.

I think they need to lower the cost of their box to $15 to keep up with the lower values.

  23. For once I hope I DONT get the box reviewed. lol None of these items with the exception of the hair ties is suitable for me. ohh well…

  24. Again they lied about the value of the box this month. Right on front of their web page it states that all boxes will have a 70 dollar value. If the box is worth 57 or 58 dollars just say that. It isn’t so hard to tell the truth. And it states clearly that ALL boxes will have a 70 dollar value. Why is it so hard for them to put what the boxes truly are worth? It’s very aggravating.

    • Agreed!!!!!!!!

    • It’s subjective. I just got an email from a furniture company selling a daybed I bought from Pier One for 4 times as much. Do I report the new $1600 retail value on my insurance list or keep it at the $400? You are a savvy shopper that can get a good deal but glossybox prices as if we are the people who’d buy the $400 daybed for $1600 😉

    • They do it to deceive so you sign up. Pure and simple. This will be my last box in a 3-mo. Sub so don’t think I’ll get the same value as stated. Will post when it arrives.

    • The oil is valued at 20 on the booklet not 11.80 so to them it’s 68 lol close

      • Ulta does sell the 1 oz oil for $20 so that is the right price

  25. I love GlossyBox. I’ve never had any issues with it. And I use everything I get. I guess you can say I’m easy to please ?

    • Funny thing is I was always pretty happy with the boxes til I saw people’s complaint lol then I’m like I also wish I got that instead too lol

  26. Fingers crossed I get this Pug lipstick its soooo cute!

  27. Cancelled this Box yesterday Finally! Been a subscriber since june, ive gotten nothing but heap substitutes for thr main higher end products. Out of the 3 boxes (still waiting on August) i got 2 products ill actually use! a tiny sample of hair oil and mousse. Big whoopty $45 do! i cancelled allure as well! Tired of the anxiety ofnever knowing what we are gonna get, when its gonna get here, and if it does whether we can even use the stuff ? Ill go to the beauty bar counter and use coupons & gift with purchases for my cosmetics! I like Beauty Fix for my skincare needs and have kept that sub ALONE!

  28. I am happy with this month’s glossy box … After 3 months of disaster boxes and switching products I am glad that I am not upset after opening the box like I used to be these past few months .. It still has to stand up for itself…to justify the $21… the climb back up is going to be a challenge after such a huge downfall… but I guess and hope it’s time that glossybox rise… from the ashes

  29. I hope i get an invisiboble. I been looking at them. Everything looks good to me, except how many darn red lipsticks do you need?

    • I probably have 40 red lipsticks and I still buy them…

(My total lipstick collection is somewhere in the 300+ range! Rivaled only by my nail polish collection!)

    • The photo in this review looks much darker than the photo on Trifle Cosmetics website. I definitely wouldn’t call this a red based on the photo on their website.

      • No its more like an orangey gloss. Not red at all! I would even say more to a neutral shade.

        • I have been told I am colorblind:)

  30. Hey all, I have questions re: Glossydots.

If I have a prepaid sub through Gilt City that ends in October (as in October will be my last box), can I cash in my Glossydots for a box in November? Or do I need to request it prior? How do I request it? Do I get the current box for that month or a past box?

    Thanks!

    • Rebecca – when I was in the same situation I contacted Glossybox and asked them how to use my Glossydots for one more box after my subscription ended.
I can’t remember exactly how it was done as it was some time ago, but I did manage it without getting duplicates or signing up for more boxes.
Glossybox are notoriously tricky so it’s worth checking with them.

    • I cashed in my Glossydots for two free boxes this past Spring right before cancelling. It was very easy. I just emailed CS about a month prior to my sub ending and asked them to apply my Dots towards March and April boxes and they complied. Good luck!

    • I think you have to request it for a future month prior to the 15th of the preceding month…and, your sub has to be active to do this. If you wait until 9/15, your October box is already in the works and thus, the end of the your sub.

You should probably call them before you do anything – better yet, email so you have it in writing. If you try to redeem through the site, I wonder if it will automatically try to apply towards October, which you have already paid for?

      • You can’t redeem them with the Gilt City sub deal (which is also what I have, as I have 1900 Glossydots and recently tried to use some). Because it counts as a gift and not an active subscription.

Some people have reported success emailing customer service and asking for them to be applied, regardless, but I have not tried that, personally. I do want the two free boxes that will be coming to me at the time my sub is up, but don’t want to pay for anything. Maybe if a month looks good, I will sign up and then use dots for two months and then quit again…

        • Are you serious? That isn’t in the fine print at all. Apparently Glossybox isn’t paying attention to things like the class action lawsuit against Birchbox. People are tired of shady. Why should anyone let them datamine us and sell the info if there is no chance of reward?

    • Thanks, all! I’ll contact CS early next month to be safe.

  31. We’ll I’m not really impressed with the August box. I don’t look good in red lipstick and I don’t have any use for the hair oil.

  32. This box is one more disappointment. I called GB Customer Service this morning as i still had not received the replacement item I was promised from the July box fiasco. I still have not received the tracking for August and GB CS told me it hasn’t shipped. I asked them why they favor the newbies over their longtime subs and they told me it was up to the brands what products were put in boxes. (Huh? I though it was according to our profile.) They were gracious enough to give me 1000 Glossydots for my disappointment. ( I have several thousand already. ) The Fango Mud I have used for many years and received in other subs…word to the wise it will stain your towels and washcloths. I can only hope September’s is phenomenal.

    • I agree 🙂

  33. I got my box today and was shocked! I just got my July box about a week ago, after several dealings with customer service (they were great).

I really like the lipstick in this box. The only other thing I can use is the mascara remover, which I will try. The rest is way off-target for me, though. I have short, oily hair and pasty skin that I keep out of the sun as much as possible. Bummer.

The lotion in my box leaked through the cap and got all over everything, but this is my first ever less-than-perfect Glossybox unboxing in over two years of subscribing!

  34. I just signed towards the end of July (3 months for $14/month) and got the July box within a few days received the August box yesterday…. So it doesn’t seem like they’re delayed in shipping, at least for me! I was really happy with this months box, so many great products! REALLY excited to try the TF melt off as I wear WP mascara everyday, praying it works! I already owned the giant glass tub of the Borghese mask, wish I would have been sent one of the other mask options (however the green/purify formula is the best for my skin type, so can’t really complain there) so that will be gifted. The lipstick is AMAZING- died over the packaging! But it’s annoying how there is no product name/info on the tube, I have no idea what shade I have! My packaging is the same as yours Liz, but definitely a more nudey-brown-bronze shade. The only text on the tube says “Trifle Cosmetics” on the front and “Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait” on the top of the cap, nothing printed on the bottom! Oh well! I think I might be going crazy because I really thought the Wella hair oil was full size?! It says “full size $20 for 1oz” on the product card and the bottle (my bottle I received and your bottle in the above photo) are listed at 1oz… Am I going nuts and missing something?! Haha it’s very likely! Thanks for sharing love, adore your site! Xo

    • Also!!! (As if my post wasn’t long enough already ??) I was at the beach yesterday for a good 8 hours, got quite a bit sun…. I was SO HAPPY when I pulled out the after sun lotion!! It’s definitely a VERY thin and watery consistency, like you cannot put the bottle down on the counter without the cap on, it will spill out, that’s how thin it is! But it felt so nice on my skin after a quick shower, my skin felt so soft against my sheets last night! But because the consistency is so thin and watery I have a feeling I’ll go through this bottle SO fast! Smells lovely, super easy to blend in, just wish it was a touch thicker and there was more product in the bottle ?

    • The name of the lipstick is “Guilty Pug.” It is the same as Liz’s if it has the pug packaging. That is how Trifle Cosmetics does it. http://triflecosmetics.com/6-lips

    • The hair oil is $20 for 1 oz. There is also 1 at 3.8oz for $40. Maybe she was going off of that?

  35. when you input the code for buy 1 get 1 free, do you get 2 of the same box or the next month one is free?

  36. I’m shocked some have their boxes already! I just got my July one that “shipped” on the 20th like last week. There’s nothing I’m very excited about in this box either, I do hope that I get the lipstick in that color, it’s pretty!

    • Mine will be here tomorrow. I never got a shipping notice. Oh well.

      • I’ve subbed since November and have probably gotten shipping notices 3 or 4 times. Most of the time the box just appears. I’ve actually gotten shipping notices after the box had arrived.

  37. Me again. I also wanted to say that I hope the late shipping of my box doesn’t mean I get an inferior box again (though NO ONE should get that!).

I did my Glossydots surveys for July just now, and one of the questions on the Sinful one was, would I be interested in trying Sinful lip color? My answer was “no” because “hell, no” wasn’t an option.

Here’s hoping most people get either this box or a solid variation so that I can start saying nice things about Glossybox again (though I’m still done with them once my Gilt City sub runs out).

    • Lol… I had a similar reply on the question on the cheap lipstick. I think that question foreshadows the difection they’re headed. Can’t recall if my profile notes hair length — which is short — or whether we’ll all get the hair tie.

      • Depending on how short your hair is, you might be able to wear little pigtails like Boo in Monsters Inc.

  38. This is weird I have the box by the time the MSA monthly review hits (subbed since last November), and it sounds like a lot of you got your August boxes already. I haven’t gotten a shipping confirmation e-mail, which frankly isn’t out of the ordinary. I’d say I’ve gotten shipping confirmation e-mails on a little less than half of my boxes, but given that Glossybox’s service has tanked lately, I’m worried that I won’t be getting a box at all. I know contacting CS may lead to being given multiple tracking numbers, none of which may actually be for my box. According to the GB site, mine is being packed at the moment.

    • I meant to say, this is weird that I don’t have the box by the time the review is posted.

    • I haven’t received my box or tracking info either. When I saw the review I was surprised because it seemed early ESP compared to last month.

    • Weird that I posted this not that long ago, and I just got my shipping confirmation e-mail. It shipped yesterday and is slated to arrive on Tuesday.

    • Haven’t rec’d mine and my account shows my box is being packed.

  39. Those of you who have gotten the two free boxes what are the products?

    • They are past boxes, you can look in the past boxes sale and see the variations. Bummer we weren’t able to pick which ones though, I ended up getting 1 I had already received! But those are the chances!

    • I just received June’s box and another leftover box, along with the paid for July box. (The July and June box were marked; the other freebie box wasn’t marked. )

  40. I want to subscribe and use the code to recieve the 2 free boxes. do you know when I will recieve the extra two boxes?

    • When I used the promo for buy 1 get 2 free in July the website stated my 2 bonus boxes would ship after my July box, however, all 3 of my boxes arrived at the same time in one large outer box.

      • thank you! where I can see that I’m receiving the 2 extra boxes?

        • It doesn’t show on their website or atleast it didn’t for mine. You can use their online chat feature to confirm that your 2 free boxes will be included. That’s what I did when I couldn’t find it. Their chat was quick and easy. She was really nice and I didn’t have any troubles.

I didn’t know all my boxes would arrive at the same time until they did but some of us on the other posts started to have ideas that it would be like that because of our larger than normal package weights appearing in shipping details. I don’t recall for certain but seems like it was around 4lbs and ofcourse that is too heavy for a single box.

July is the month I paid for and I received June and January as my bonus boxes. June was easy to spot because it came in a red box. To find out which month the other one I had to search MSA by using one of the products. It was easy to find. I hope you get good months!

  41. I really like this box. I hope I get a similar box. Glossybox has been a pretty good box for me really. The only problem I’ve had in the past year is that my July box was late. It was an awesome box though

  42. I received the exact same box with the exception of getting the Borghese Body Scrub instead of the face mask/mud. The Too Faced Mascara Melt Off is the product I want to try first!
I love Glossybox boxes. They are fab for keepsakes, and my fancy dress up jewelry that I want to protect. The idea of a special edition box is lovely!

  43. Great box. Hoping I get this one, or a very similar variation.

That lipstick’s a great color for me and I really want to try the hair oil.

    Fingers crossed!

  44. I love Glossybox i never had any issues with them and the boxes are nice to

  45. I received the same lipstick and I love the packaging, color, and the way it applies. I used the Too Faced mascara remover wand and I was very pleased. I have brittle lashes that like to break when tugged on or wiped too much. This product allowed me to avoid all of the tugging. I received the jar product ( I believe a scrub) and it states that it’s for the body..The info on the jar is so small, so I’ll have to get a magnifying glass to see if it can be used on the face too.
Does anyone know if there is a subscription that is specifically for facial care ,cleansers mostly ? With all of the boxes that I am subscribed to, cleansers are the one item that I rarely receive. I have drawers and boxes full of products, but not cleansers…lol.

    • Beautyfix is the most popular skincare focused box. Most, if not all, of the K-Beauty boxes also focus mostly on skincare products with the occasional makeup item thrown in. However, I don’t think cleansers are thrown in every month.

You may want to try Beauty DNA as well. They have a very extensive questionnaire you fill out, and you can manipulate it as to where you’ll most likely receive a lot of cleansers. Basically, just mark all product types as you’re not interested in them, but mark cleansers as a product you love. Then indicate all of your skincare concerns, and make sure that only skincare concerns are listed in your Top 5 concerns list. This has worked for me since I only want certain skincare products. Note, Beauty DNA sends only full-sized items, and typically only one item per month.

      • Thank you. I do dub to Beauty Fix and I can’t remember the last time I received a facial cleaser. I Love my Beauty Fix sub. I will check on the DNA sub…thanks again.

    • When Is it the August box will ship, mine isn’t showing shipped yet, but is showing packed, I didn’t know anybody got there’s already.

      • Mine never showed it was shipping. It STILL says packing (or packed) and it showed up yesterday. (East coast if that matters)

        • Thanks, since mine is also showing as “packing”, but I haven’t gotten an e-mailed shipping confirmation. I already got my mail today and no box ? Though more often than not since I subbed last November, I don’t get a shipping confirmation; my box just shows up.

But it seems like shipping is happening early this month, maybe to make up for last month’s fiasco. I’m hoping mine is on the way!

        • Update: I just got my shipping e-mail, the tracking for which shows that it shipped yesterday. GB still shows “packing”.

          • So odd. I’ve never received notice my box shipped. I just go to the website.

          • Mine says the same even though I got the shipping info.

    • Not a subscription but merely a helpful suggestion….

Since I’m stocked up on beauty items also I’ve started using my target box $3 off $15 beauty purchase coupons strictly for Face Cleansers and cotton rounds. They regularly have those promos for buy 3 or buy 4 items and receive a $5 gift card too so I’m really finding great value in it between my $3 off coupon and the added $5 gift cards. Then I turn around and use that gift card for my next target box. This works both online and in store.

      • Great idea! Thanks!

      • Excellent idea! Thanks for the tip!

    • Beauty fix is awesome mostly all skincare

  46. This looks great. Everything is useable for me. Lippie is too cute!

  47. Hope I get “Guilty Pug” lipstick-too cute.

    • I got it! YAY!

  48. How was the hair oil? My hair is short and very fine and light that oils are too heavy for me. The kerastase last month was a disaster for me. It took two washings to get it out and all other oils I’ve tried have been too heavy. Is it really lightweight? Thanks.

    • This is one of the lighter hair oils I’ve tried. I think it should work for you! 🙂

  49. I’m trying to be excited about this box but I think I’ll just cross my fingers and put it out of my mind until I get it :p

What’s that sneak peek? Doesn’t look like a beauty product….that could be cool. I also like the new insert.

    • Here is the text from the Sneak Peek: As September quickly approaches, the world turns its eyes to the fashion and beauty scene. GLOSSYBOX has collaborated with an extremely talented illustrator to bring you a keepsake, specially-designed box replete with products for you to set the stage, walk to the runway or simply vogue.

      • Well…I DO love their unique box designs so I guess I’m up for next month too lol

        • They are the best at the actual boxes! 🙂

          • Yes I miss the Box ,this is my first month without getting one ….be strong don’t give in
