Dylan's Candy Bar ships all chocolate products with warm weather shipping protection during the summer, which is great for those of us living in hot climates. Unfortunately, even with the warm weather protection, every single shipment I've received has come completely melted.

Dylan's Chocolate Bar Potato Chip Bar - $3.25

I really enjoy the sweet and salty combination of potato chips and chocolate, so this bar is a winner for me. Luckily, the bars don't suffer as much as some of the other items in the box when they melt, because it's mostly contained within the wrapper. So I was able to try this one, and I really enjoyed it. I think the potato chip flavor went really well with the creamy chocolate.

Mini-Bin Fillable Surprise - Chocolate Covered Swedish Fish - $10.00?

These chocolate covered Swedish Fish were sent as a refill for my mini bin that I received my first month of subscribing. I wasn't sure about chocolate covered gummy candy, and I'm not a fan, but I'm sure there are people out there that love these. These did come melted, but thankfully, they didn't melt completely into a mess of chocolate and gummy cherry goo. I really like the idea of sending a little bin for candy, and providing a refill for it each month!

Truffle Ice Cream Cones Truck - $10.00?

Unfortunately, I can't find this item online either. It is unfortunate, because I think there are a lot of little ones that would love these. I tried the strawberry truffle cone, and wasn't a fan. The cute factor here is high though, and I think a lot of people would love them for that. I wasn't a fan because the ice cream part of the truffle really wasn't truffle at all - it was like a melted mass of chocolate candy wafters formed into an ice cream scoop. The cone is the wafer cone of sadness, covered in chocolate - which makes it styrofoam-y and stale tasting.

Verdict: I feel like I've been really negative about this box and I hate that. I will say that their customer service has been top notch with resending the melted products (after sending pictures), but they're still shipping the same way, even though each and every shipment has arrived melted. I finally gave up, and just told them to stop shipping me replacements. Some of the candy is good, but some of it is mediocre...This box is super cute, but I can't recommend it. The value has been low each month: this month the value is right at $24.00, but much of that is probably a generous estimate.

I really wanted this one to work out, but for now, I would recommend holding off. Maybe try again in the winter!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

The way they ship is insane. I get a food delivery box..MealTimeBox. They normally ship in the foil type wrap container shown above in your pic w/ ice packs. When the weather switched up, so did they. They have been shipping in a Styrofoam type cooler inside the delivery box with extra ice packs all Summer. Everything has arrived perfectly. Dylan’s are only shipping some chocolate. MTB is shipping 10 entire meals to me w/o ANY issues. Go figure. I would never buy this box based on the lack of shipping sense and how overpriced they are for the size/quantity of the product. I can get super high quality chocolate anywhere w/o the melting and the ridiculous price for melted chocolate.

I don’t think the value is actually that low because how expensive Dylan’s is when you go to their stores. If you think a candy is $10, it is usually $30 there. I do agree that it is still too much to pay for candy.

I don’t think this box is worth the money at all. You are paying about $30 for some chocolate covered Swedish fish?? Those themselves are worth about $1 per box. No thanks…

This is a perfect example of how you DON’T do a subscription box. Charge premium prices for what are essentially items which can be purchased retail for a better price without any shipping fees and make the price point high without providing value, an exceptional selection, or anything exclusive. Ship every month the same without regard to weather conditions affecting the quality of the product, then having to reship to replace damage products destroying the profit margin. Not altering the monthly process despite negative incidents which ruins the experience for the user. One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Well said! Surely this box won’t last long, will it?

That depends. Dylan is the daughter of fashion agregator Ralph Lauren. Ego and money may be involved.

It’s not negative, it’s honest. Appreciated.

I have to recommend Raaka chocolate for an amazing chocolate subscription. I’ve been subscribing for 2 years. Never had a problem with melted chocolate, even in the summer. They send 3 chocolate bars – 2 experimental ones and 1 from their regular line. It’s for people who love dark chocolate. Definitely worth checking out! Great mission and incredible chocolate.

I appreciate that you guys will say negative things in reviews! We want honest opinions on whether something is worth our money, and this box clearly isn’t.

Shipping chocolate in summer is clearly not impossible, since there are plenty of other chocolate subs that seem to do just fine. Very disappointing to see this sub offering such a low value.

I don’t mind posting negative comments. 🙂

But this is actually a thank you, Bekki, for your honest take on this. Chocolate and all food is highly subjective, and anyone who really wants something will still get it, so it’s not negative at all.

This box is a great idea. But wow it’s just such a low value. I don’t like to post negative comments… But the low value just seems so unfair in a way. I don’t think i even ever want to spend money at their business if I visited a location.

“Wafer cone of sadness..” Too bad because the little ice cream cones look cute. Thank you for being honest.

Such consistent low value is just sad. Not sure how they can get away with it. 🙁
