Chococurb is an artisan chocolate box. They have three subscription 'sizes' so to speak: their mini, the nano (which is what I am reviewing today), and their regular subscription. Their nano box is a new addition to the lineup. They also have a shop, so you can repurchase the chocolates that you love!
Chococurb has the right idea when it comes to shipping chocolate. They shipped the Nano and Mini package in this cooler. A cooler with ice packs and a metallic bubble wrapper around the chocolate, to be specific! The day I received my box, it was 106. 1 truffle and the caramel were slightly soft, but nothing else. That's how you ship chocolate in the summer!
Wallie's Cacao - Milk of the Gods - Rio Caribe 44
I received this in my last Chococurb Mini. This milk chocolate bar is 26 grams of pure milk chocolate delight. This isn't the super sweet, flavorless milk chocolate you know and hate - this was lightly sweetened with the chocolate flavor coming through strongly, but still cut with the creaminess of milk.
The packaging on this little piece of chocolate was top notch. It is a thick, textured paper folded into an envelope. This is described as: "Milk chocolate with a dark chocolate twist: we’ve added even more cocoa beans. Our only blend with organic whole milk, these bars are still much darker than standard milk chocolate. The Dark Milk hovers around 55% cocoa content, and is sure to please both sides of the chocolate debate."
It is definitely still on the dark end of the spectrum of chocolate - don't bite into this expecting that creamy milk flavor from milk chocolate. With that said, it is very good - it's a bit of a light, creamy dark chocolate. I enjoyed it!
I've had the opportunity to try Dolfin chocolate often with Chococurb, and I always enjoy it. Dolfin is a Belgian brand that is hard to come across in the states. I appreciate that I can try different flavors through this subscription! I really liked this particular square - there was hints of coffee, but it wasn't overpowering!
Seattle Chocolates San Juan Sea Salt
This was delicious. It was a truffle like texture, with large salt crystals inside. The textural juxtaposition was awesome, and the flavor was even better. It's a good thing I only received one of these - I would eat a lot more!
Evolve Truffles Salted Chocolate Caramel
This stout beer infused salted chocolate caramel was amazing. This is one of the items that came a bit soft from the heat, but it was still delicious - I ripped in to it right away! It was perfectly salted and the caramel and chocolate went great together.
Verdict: Many of these chocolates are not available online in the sizes that I received, so I am going to do a general value judgement. For the cost of the box, each item here costs you an average of $2.00 per piece. For artisan, high quality chocolate, I think that is perfectly reasonable. I always enjoy the assortment of chocolates that Chococurb sends, and this month was no different!
