BOXO is a subscription box that sends freshly roasted, whole bean coffee directly to your doorstep.
Each month, BOXO travels to a different city in America to find that city’s best roasters. They choose their two favorites, and include a bag from each roaster to send to subscribers.
Freshness is a top priority for BOXO, and they ensure that subscribers receive their beans within five days of them being roasted.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

My box contained a two-sided card with information about the month’s coffees.
August’s shipment contained coffee from Driven Coffee Roasters and Dogwood Coffee Co., two roasters based in Minneapolis, MN.
Normal Human Postcard Print- $2.50
This is my first month reviewing BOXO, but looking back at previous reviews it appears that every box contains a print from Normal Human, a screen printing shop based in Kansas City, MO.
This particular print isn’t available for sale online, but it’s super cool! It appears to be a coffee bean balancing on top of a spoon, but it reminds me a little of someone reclining with their legs outstretched. I love the simple approach of the design and the ambiguity regarding the subject matter— it’s a little surrealist!
Driven Coffee Roasters PNG Garana (8 oz.)- $7.83
(Note: this coffee is packaged in a 12 oz. bag, but it’s part of the 8 oz. subscription plan and is, indeed, only 8 oz. I weighed it just to make sure.)
Driven Coffee sources these beans from the Garant village of South Eastern Papua New Guinea, and the beans are grown naturally without insecticides or commercial fertilizers.
Sometimes I struggle with identifying specific notes in coffee bean aromas, but these beans smell just like ripe red berries and cinnamon! These notes didn’t carry over into the cup, but I love the smooth, nutty taste after the beans are brewed.
Dogwood Coffee Co. Colombia El Meridiano (8 oz.)- $12.50
This coffee is from the Colima region in west-central Colombia.
BOXO recommends looking for notes of “mild toffee, vanilla, [and] sweet tomato.” For me, this coffee was rich and sweet, and I could definitely taste the vanilla undertones.
Verdict: This is my first shipment from BOXO, and I really enjoyed it! I love that they send beans from two different roasters based in the same city. It’s fun to get a sense of a particular city’s coffee culture, and I like that sending the beans side by side is kind of like a friendly matchup! (It’s hard not to pick a favorite!) This month, I enjoyed both coffees, but I think my favorite has to be Driven’s PNG Garana. The beans smelled incredible, and I loved the subtle flavors in the cup. The total retail value of the items I received this month totals $22.83. That falls a bit short of the subscription cost, but it’s within the range I expect from a coffee subscription. I really loved my first month of BOXO, and I look forward to seeing which city will be featured next month!
What do you think of this month’s BOXO? Have you familiar with either of the roasters featured in this month’s box?
