Beauteque-BB-Bag-August-2016-Info

August's theme is Medal Worthy Beauty. Usually Beauteque's themes are irrelevant to curation so I wouldn't give it too much thought.

Deoproce Green Tea Essence Moisture Toner - $13.99

This toner contains green tea to help reduce blemishes and brighten dark spots. It comes in a heavy frosted glass bottle and feels luxurious. I'm not a fan of the strong floral fragrance, which will likely be off-putting to sensitive noses. The consistency is thicker than typical watery toners which makes it difficult to pour out of the tiny bottle opening. Packaging and fragrance aside, the toner is hydrating without feeling sticky.

A'Pieu Finger Blusher - $6.99

This is the "Mystery Lip Product" that was listed on the info card, but... I received a blush. This is a cream blusher in a creamy light pink shade that does not show up on my skin at all. I don't think it will show up on most other skin tones either. On the bright side, it could work as a highlighter.

Innerskin 3-Step Hydration Mask - $7.99

I'm pleasantly surprised by this set! This 3-step kit includes an essence, eye patch, and hydrating mask and requires you to use them in order. Step 1 is a medium-thick gel essence that has no fragrance and applies smoothly with little tackiness. Step 2 involves eye patches. They are paper thin under eye patches and come completely dry. I thought I received a defective product at first but skeptically applied them before heading on to Step 3, the mask. This sheet mask also has no fragrance (a first in my masking experience!) and adheres well so I can walk around without fear of it slipping off. After use my skin felt plump and refreshed with little tackiness.

Here's the kicker: after taking the sheet mask off my face, the eye patches literally disappeared! It turns out they're actually made of essence and absorbs into your skin after being moistened by the wet mask. It is such a cool concept!

Plush Headband - $5

This is a terrycloth headband to keep flyaways at bay. I like that it has velcro ends for easy adjustability.

"Headband make up thing" is exactly how I speak in real life.

Ladykin Elmaju Cactus Aqua Cream - $12.99

This is a lightweight cream that balances oil and hydration levels in your skin. It contains 75% prickly pear extract which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It smells pleasant and doesn't feel greasy. This is a giant tub and will take a while to use up. I'm a fan!

One weird note: the info card lists this as $23 when it's sold for $13 in their shop.

Tsaio Pore Clear Treatment Set - $10.90

Tsaio is a Taiwanese company. This is a two-piece pore treatment kit that includes a pimple tonic and t-zone mask. The pimple tonic is a spot treatment for use on dry skin, while the mask is a peel-off type that you leave on oil-prone areas for 15-30 minutes.

The pimple tonic includes 0.5% salicylic acid, white willow bark extract, and witch hazel extract to soothe acne. I'm used to higher concentrations of salicylic acid but this would be a good, gentler alternative to carry around at work. The papain mask is a black, runny paste very similar to the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask. I did not see any difference to the skin after a couple of uses, but I'll continue trying it out.

Beauteque-BB-Bag-August-2016-6

This month's nylon bag is great! It stands upright and is very roomy.

Verdict: The August Beauteque BB Bag was great as usual! They never skimp on quantity or quality. My favorite is the Ladykin Cactus Cream since it gives me the perfect amount of hydration without feeling greasy. I also recommend the Innerskin 3-Step mask set to people who don't like sticky or scented sheet masks! I calculated the total retail value to be $57.86 (not counting the bag), which is about twice the cost of subscription. One thing to point out: I have noticed that the BB Bag often includes products targeting acne or "troubled" areas. While I personally love it, this is something to keep in mind for people who do not have acne prone skin.

I am thinking about cancelling all of my subscriptions for K beauty. I love it but with all the latest info on the sheet masks and how they process them, I am afraid to use them now. Is anyone else worried about it?

Here’s the story: http://www.racked.com/2016/8/29/12698288/sheet-mask-sanitation-scandal-k-beauty

TL;DR version: it’s come to light that some sheet mask manufacturers use subcontractors to fold and insert sheet masks into their packages before the packages are taken to the factory where the serum is put in the package and it is sealed. These subcontractors are mostly women working at home, not in factories, so there isn’t the same level of cleanliness and sanitation that you would expect from a factory. For instance, some of the videos in the article show sheet masks being folded without gloves. They are also paid rather poorly for the work. I would normally be suspicious of this story, but some of the companies have confirmed they use these subcontractors and some of the reports are quite concerning.

For me, I’m kind of leery of it. I know I’m going to be avoiding the brands mentioned in the story and probably trying to avoid Korean sheet masks for a while until companies change that practice. I’m not going to avoid k-beauty products altogether, however.

I absolutely loved this box!!! Especially because I’ve been having horrid breakouts&nothing wants to absorb into my skin lately. This selecting of products was a godsend for me. The toner does make my skin so smooth&i just tap the top on my hand as its in a scoop position, it makes it much easier to then tap it on. The acne tonic has actually helped my breakouts quite a bit much to my surprise. And finally a creme that absorbs, thank you cactus creme lotion! But the finger blusher i received was a pinky coral color so i guess they’re not all the same shade.

This was my first box and although I liked the items it was kind of a hot mess.

They sent me 2 bags (this month’s and last months) 2 info cards (this month’s and last month’s) and my “lip item” also wasn’t a lip item I think it was an eyeliner (I threw it in a box of makeup and don’t remember lol)
It just seemed weird and unorganized.

My mystery lip product was a face mask! I also received 2 bags. I think because I didn’t receive July’s bag in the July box. I wonder if a lot of the mix ups have to do with their new shippers. I received an email from Beauteque stating they would include July’s bag and an extra goodie as an apology in the August box. I assumed the mask was the extra goodie, and when I didn’t receive the mystery lip product, I assumed the new shippers messed up again. I let the missing lip product go. And then I saw some Beautique Mask Maven August reviews where they got a lip product in place of the mystery mask they were supposed to received. So, it seems like for some of us our mystery products got mixed up.

My guess is that the “mystery” of the lip item item is…”Surprise! It’s not a lip item!”
