Akibento-July-2016-Info

Each box comes with an info card or fold-out. July's theme is Battle and features popular titles like Naruto and Dragon Ball Z.

Akibento-July-2016-1

Battle Shirt - $15?

This is an 100% cotton Gildan tee. It's soft and fits comfortably according to my boyfriend! I also like the silly mashup of characters. Does anyone know who the black haired girl is though?

Akibento-July-2016-2

Akidearest Sticker - $3?

Akibento recently started featuring YouTubers on their info cards and July's is Akidearest. This sticker is a bonus item. The girl's top is quite revealing!

Naruto Patch - $5?

Subscribers receive one of five Naruto patches. I received Neji. I barely remember him from back in the day when I followed Naruto.

Akibento Monthly Pin - $1?

This is the Battle pin. I recognize the one in the white as Asuna from Sword Art Online but not the other one.

Akibento-July-2016-3

Attack on Titan Tile Bracelet - $10?

This is a comfortable, stretchy bracelet. The tiles feature different Attack on Titan images, and since they're made of wood the bracelet is not too heavy or clunky. Even though I rarely wear bracelets I like the look and feel of this one.

Exclusive Kunai Knife - $18?

This is an amazingly well made kunai knife, which is a ninja weapon used in Naruto. It has significant weight. Also, it's golden, which always makes things more extravagant! It will make a superb collector's piece.

Dragon Ball Z Tamashii Buddies Super Saiyan Goku Figure - $14.95

This Goku figure is definitely well made! His muscles look intense. I like that each figure comes with a backdrop that you can connect to other figures if you want to get more Tamashii Buddies.

Verdict: July's Akibento is pretty solid! The t-shirt and Naruto kunai knife are what makes the box for me. Everything else is bonus. I estimate the value at around $67, which is more than twice the cost of subscription. It may just be a personal problem but I still think the info cards can be more detailed, or at least they can list out all the featured anime titles in one place, you know? That way, if I'm not familiar with an item or reference I can easily look it up online.

Did you ever find out who the black haired girl is? Now I want to know! This box is pretty good as far as anime/mango goes; I was impressed with this month’s contents. That knife is pretty awesome! I think this box will be arounf for awhile. There’s really no way for it to get ‘stale’, b/c there is so much anime/manga out there. You could pick almost any theme or genre & there would be an abundance of anime/manga titles to choose from! Not to mention how much merchandise is out there now! I was a librarian and I tried for years to get my director to start an anime/manga section, but she refused. Then all of a sudden it just EXPLODED here in the states & I couldn’t stop her from buying it! I’m glad I was there to help, b/c she accidentally bought a VERY risque manga series for the teen section! She didn’t realize that there are so many more themes in anime & manga, not just the ones for teens! Let’s just say that it was not something you’d want your under 18 child to be checking out from a library (I wouldn’t have even read this series & I’m in my 30’s)!

Thanks! I’m not sure I’ve heard of that one, so I’ll have to check it out!

It’s crazy how graphic some of it is! When I first started looking into anime/manga, I was about 16 (when we still had to go to bookstores like Barnes & Noble for our reading fancies…lol). Some of the stuff I came across was so…uhhh… we’ll say “detailed”, that I learned more from those graphic novels than I ever did in health class. It’s definitely something that parents need to watch out for, especially with so much of it being available online now. What appears to be an innocent cartoon book could actually be very far from “innocent”!

Haha! I agree with you on risque manga and anime 🙂 Some people may not realize it spans all age demographics, kinda like adult cartoons like Family Guy but on a larger scale.

The black haired girl remains a mystery!
