The Vegan Cuts Snack Box is a monthly subscription box full of vegan and natural food products and snacks. Many of the items will be gluten free, but this box is not a dedicated gluten free box.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The box came with this information card detailing the items in the box.

vegancutssnack-july-2016-popcorn

Vegan Rob’s Brand Sweet and Salty Popcorn (1 oz) – Value $1.32

This tasted good and there weren’t too many broken pieces in the bottom, but there was a LOT of sugar (and more calories than other popcorn snacks).

Lundberg Rice Chips in Sea Salt (1.5 oz) – Value $0.81

I love Lundberg rice, but the rice chips, not so much. They just haven’t gotten the texture right yet. These need some kind of strong dip, I think.

Sola Bar in Roasted Garlic and Sea Salt (1.2 oz) – Value $2.08

Wow, this had a strong garlic flavor. I am still not sure what I think about savory bars. At least it did not give me epic, 18-hour garlic breath like the naan chips from Love with Food!

Party-Tizers Veggie Dippin’ Chips in Kale, Carrot, and Spinach (1 oz) – Value $0.64

These had a definite vegetable taste. I think if I had eaten them with salsa, it wouldn’t have been so noticeable. The texture wasn’t bad.

Beanfield’s Bean and Rice Chips in Nacho (1.5 oz) – Value $1.25

Oh, Beanfield’s. I like these. They are not the same as Doritos, not by a long shot (but then, Doritos aren’t vegan). But, I never buy them because I am guaranteed to get at least 10 bags a year in food subscription boxes.

Kashi Go Lean Peanut Hemp Crunch Bar (1.59 oz) – Value $1.56

I ate this with my breakfast one morning. There was a dark brown coating on one side of the bar that made me think of chocolate, but there was no chocolate in the ingredients list! The macronutrients aren’t bad and I did enjoy the taste and texture. I always forget about this brand; it doesn’t show up in subscription boxes very often.

vegancutssnack-july-2016-chickpeas

Chic-a-Peas Baked Crunchy Chickpeas in Falafel Flavor (2 oz) – Value $1.91

Crunchy chickpeas are a common snack in my house. I like the falafel flavor a lot and there were enough calories here that this lasted two days as a snack for me.

Tasty Brand Organic Sandwich Cookies in Chocolate Layer Cake (1.38 oz) – Value $0.80

We got the vanilla variety in a past box but I like the chocolate ones better. I am not a huge fan of sandwich cookies, but if you are looking to replace Oreos with something having a simpler ingredients list, look no further.

Fruigees 24 Carrot Orange Organic Fruit Snack (3.5 oz) – Value $1.89

We got this in a past box, as well. It tastes more like orange than carrot, which is good – I don’t mind a mushy orange snack in a pouch but don’t think I would feel the same way about mashed carrots.

vegancutssnack-july-2016-kutoa

Kutoa Chocolate Espresso Bean Bar (1.7 oz) – Value $2

I gave this to my husband. I hate coffee. He said it was good but that I was right to pass it on, that I would not have liked it. Apparently the coffee flavor was much more prominent than the chocolate.

Positive Energy Peach Mango Lemonade (10 fl oz) – Value $2.41

I am not really into drinking energy drinks or things with sugar in them (I don’t like the way it makes my teeth feel). If I was, I probably would’ve enjoyed this more. Still, the brand is new to me and I appreciate that the Vegan Cuts folks are trying to serve a cross-section of people, not all of whom have the same preferences.

Kunachia Chia + Probiotics Shot (12 g) – Value $0.54

I make smoothies every morning and this went into one of those. You really need to take probiotics for longer than one day to see an effect, though…

vegancutssnack-july-2016-coupon

There was also a coupon for a product from a previous month’s box. But, this is a brand I buy often so I will probably use it.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $17.21 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Snack Box. That’s a little on the low side, but not too far off the mark for a food box, since those always seem to have lower values. Also, if you are following a vegan diet, it is nice to know someone else has done the work of finding some snacks that are safe for you to eat. (I have to admit, as a vegetarian, that I do like just being able to grab something from this box without worrying that it has gelatin or chicken broth or some other sneaky ingredient.) I thought the variety of items was good, and I did discover a few new brands, although I do wish there had been fewer repeats from past months.

What do you think of the July 2016 Vegan Cuts Snack Box?

I love this subscription. I am vegan and there is always a great variety of items. There may be a couple of repeats once in a while but it is usually the case that most are unique items I have never seen before and not in my local health food stores. And I live in a major city where vegans are common with an abundance of products available in the stores. A few times I fell in love with particular items and had to order them online.

Ragan, I appreciate you tasting and trying all the products–many times a reviewer will come across a product I’m interested in and then “gift it” and I’m left without any idea whether it was good or bad. I am not vegan but I sent a few months of this to a friend who really liked it but did say there was a problem with repetition as well as brands that you find all the time in the health food stores as opposed to something really new to try.
