This month, the country featured was the United States; the packaging was very fitting for the month of our Independence!

UY4

Route 11 Chesapeake Crab Chips - $1.16

These chips are seasoned with Chesapeake crab seasoning and they are made in Virginia. The ingredient list is blissfully short and free of many troublesome ingredients too! These were really great chips - I loved the seasoning and the chips were crunchy and crisp.

GH Cretors Chicago Mix Popcorn - $1.09

I know many people wonder about this combination, as I did prior to getting it in my PopSugar box a few years back. I actually really enjoyed it, despite the fact that it sounds really weird. You have to try this before you rule it out completely!

Grippos Bar-B-Q Potato Chips - $0.60

These were a bonus thrown in by the founders this month. They say in the booklet that these chips are only available in Cincinnati, Ohio and a few surrounding towns in the Midwest.

UY5

Alaska's Best Wild King Salmon Jerky - $2.75

Funny story on this one: since I didn't eat this, I gave it to a friend to try. She text me one day that she went to take a swig of her water, and apparently her son was trying to rehydrate the jerky...so she got a nice gulp of teriyaki salmon water. Blech. Anyway, I'm sure if you're the jerky type, and you don't try to rehydrate this, it will be delicious!

Dee Dee's Jalapeno Cheese Straws - Mini - $1.65

These were so good. I loved the salty, cheesy flavor, with the slight hint of jalapeno. They were a perfect mid-day snack.

Cactus Candy - $1.98

This was actually really interesting. It was a gummy type snack and I couldn't exactly put my finger on the flavor of it. I did enjoy it, but I'm not certain that I would purchase it on my own!

UY6

Key Lime Coconut Patties - $0.66

I didn't have a chance to try this one since I received this box right before leaving for a week. It seems like the inside is similar to a macaroon, with sweetened coconut and key lime flavoring, with the whole thing coated in dark chocolate! Looking forward to trying this one for sure!

Liberty Orchards Aplets and Cotlets - $1.89

These candies always bring back memories of my Auntie! She loves these, and we would buy her some every Christmas. I don't particularly share her ardent love for these, but they are good, and I definitely indulged! I think I would prefer them minus the walnuts.

Black and White Cookie - $1.33

I had my first Black and White cookie in 2011 when I went to NYC for the first time - I fell in love with the city (I mean really, who doesn't?) and their food. Black and white cookies are so delicious. This one was pretty good for being packaged and mass produced!

Lamme's Habanero Praline - $3.60

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this at all. I actually regretted the small piece I cut off and wasted calories on! The habanero flavor definitely comes through in this, which I personally think was too strong. The nuts seemed misplaced, and the flavor on the whole just didn't deliver.

YU7

Annabelle's Abba-Zaba - $1.00

We're throwing it way back here! These are definitely a retro candy that you don't see around much anymore. These are chewy taffy with peanut butter inside and they're pretty much always delicious!

Fralingers' Salt Water Taffy - $0.50

Another retro candy! Salt water taffy always reminds me of summer time and the beach. I'm not entirely sure why, since I've never actually eaten taffy on the beach, but hey, who knows why our brains make certain associations! This was really good salt water taffy, and I enjoyed the elongated shape of these - it made it easier to eat!

Montana Wild Huckleberry Twists - $1.00

These were delicious! I love huckleberry flavored treats, and we don't have them around here much. The majority of these went to some little ones that had to crash for a bit at my house after their parents were in a car accident (everyone is OK!) and they did an excellent job at cheering them up!

Vermont Maple Drops - $0.80

I enjoyed these maple drops, but honestly couldn't entirely tell that they were maple flavored. There were hints of maple, but I just tasted buttery sweetness!

Verdict: I really enjoyed my first month of Universal Yums. The value of this box is approximately $20.00, which is definitely over the cost of the box. I felt like I received a ton of snacks in this one, so in my opinion, $13.00 is really reasonable for this box (so far!). The theme was really perfect for June in the U.S., so that was fun too!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

I live about 45 minutes from the route 11 chip factory. They are our favorite and a fun place to visit and watch the process. All the flavors are good. They were a much requested item during my daughters deployments too 🙂

I’ve lived in Vermont my entire life and never had maple drops. Not sure if I’ve even heard of them. I would’ve gone with maple sugar candy, if anything, but those are much more expensive. Oh well, I’m pleased Vermont was included anyway!

I loved the Habanero Praline and would totally buy more online if they just weren’t so expensive.

Loved this box and everything inside it.

Oh, and my guess for the next box is Brazil. Although the clue was pretty obvious!

They did Brazil for their 2nd box. I remember this because after my first box I got a sub for my Dad. It was a surprise for it to be Brazil as his housekeeper is from Brazil and he shared it with her. She proclaimed it a total success noting it was full of great snacks that reminded her of home. The cookies in the box even prompted her to make a similar cookie recipe from her youth which were awesome. So, since they are not at the point of repeats yet, I would have to say it is a different Country. Which one-I have no clue.
Totally love this box and I have turned 3 people onto it so far.

Interesting! I was assuming Brazil because of the Olympics. Now it’s a mystery!

I loved those crab chips! And the popcorn was interesting. I’d definitely try it again.

Agree on the habanero praline and I usually really like habanero, but it was just too much.

The Abba Zabba was so good–I’d actually never had one before. It was definitely not a candy I saw growing up. Maybe they are a midwest thing?

I subscribe to the $13.00 Yum box and I didn’t get all of these items. I think you are reviewing the $25.00 Yum Yum box.

Hannah

I agree, and it does say this is the yum yum box, which costs $25, which is a higher amount than the $20 estimated worth of the food within this particular one.

I LOVE Aplets & Cotlets! My parents would buy them for my sister and I every Christmas too.

You said this is a review of the Yum Yum box, which is $25. Was it actually the Yum box?

I LOVE Universal Yums! My favorite from the June USA box were the Chesapeake Crab chips and the Grippo’s chips. I just got my July Taiwan box a couple of days ago. It had a lot of cool textures and odd flavors. BTW the box in your review was the Yum Yum box size and it is 25.00. That’s the one I get. The lesser item Yum box is 13.00.
