UPDATE - THIS SUBSCRIPTION BOX IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE
Teruffic Box is a subscription box for dogs. There are a few more customization options with this one than for some other dog boxes, including a “ginormous” (over 100 lbs) dog option, which is something I haven’t seen from other boxes and which I believe is definitely needed. Toys for a 50 pound dog just wouldn’t work for a Great Dane, St. Bernard, or Bull Mastiff! (My Rottweiler, Nyx, is about 82 pounds right now, so this is a review of the “large” – 51-100 lbs – Teruffic box.)
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
The Subscription Box: Teruffic Box
The Cost: $30 month-to-month for a standard Teruffic Box, or choose from many other options (heavy chewer, puppy, birthday, toys only, treats only and multi-pup) or add on additional products; most options are in the $26-33 range. Save with longer subscriptions.
The Products: Toys, treats, and bones selected based on your dog’s chewing habits and dietary needs.
Ships to: US (free), $5 (elsewhere)

There wasn’t an information card in this box, but did include this ID tag. If you are an active Teruffic Box subscriber, you can put this on your dog’s collar. If your dog gets lost, whoever finds him or her can call the number on the tag, give the ID number, and help reunite you with your dog. I will put this on Nyx’s collar although she never leaves the house off-leash due to her medical issues. But, I suppose it doesn’t hurt to be careful, because she can’t go very long at all without her medication.
KONG Dynos Pterodactyl Dog Toy – Value $5.58
KONG Dynos T-Rex Dog Toy – Value $5.16
Nyx loved these. But she gets excited about pretty much any toy. These have crinkle stuff inside instead of regular stuffing and Nyx wasn’t able to pull any out, although she did rip them open. I would rate these “medium” on the durability scale.
Here are a few closer views of the dinosaurs. I find it a little strange that there was no barcode tag on them anywhere. But, they are from a current product line.
Dogswell Happy Hips Lamp Strips Dog Treats – Value $5.99
These are made from antibiotic-free lamp and are grain and gluten free so they should be good for a lot of dogs with allergies. Plus, they have glucosamine and chondroitin for joint health.
Rawhide Bone – Value $4.79 (?)
This is rawhide pressed into a bone shape. This arrived with no brand name tag of any kind, so I took the value from a similar item. I can’t give Nyx rawhides due to her sensitive digestive system (you would not believe the gas that rawhides used to give Jet, the Rottie I had before Nyx). I do wish this had had some information about where it was made/sourced.
Nyx was very happy with this toy. It lasted a couple of minutes, which is pretty good for her!
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $21.52 for the June 2016 Teruffic Box. Couple of notes: the prices above, when I could find links, are mostly sale prices from Chewy.com, which is a website I love to order from. MSRPs for these items are going to put the value much closer to the cost of the box. And there is always the possibility of signing up for a longer subscription to save a bit more money each month. I also think there should, perhaps, be some value for the tracking service, but I didn’t know how to calculate that. I think you could probably manage to break even with this in terms of value, at least.
I like that I was able to find at least three of the items from the box currently in production by their manufacturers (no closeouts), though I did think it somewhat odd that the KONG toys didn’t have tags with barcodes. And I wish the bone had a label of some sort so you could figure out where it was made.
I am encouraged from Teruffic Box’s recent email to subscribers that they are listening to what people want from a dog box and are giving lots of new options.
What do you think of the June 2016 Teruffic Box? Do you subscribe to any dog or cat boxes?
