Sew Sampler includes a block 'recipe' card for a quilt each month. They put it this way: "Each month you will also receive a Block Recipe to make a quilt block with three size options; 8”, 12” and 16”. Collect all twelve of the recipe cards plus a bonus card with instructions for putting them all together in an adorable quilt! We even have a special fat quarter bundle available for these blocks."

I decided to go in full force with the quilt blocks and purchased fabric for a full quilt. I will say that it is a little frustrating for an inexperienced quilter to try to guess how much fabric you need for the full quilt, since it isn't indicated on the cards. It has been a fun experience so far though!

SS5

Creative Grids 2 1/2 Quilting Square Ruler - $7.45

I love that I'm building my ruler collection with this box! Previously, I only had a large (24 inch) ruler to use with my rotary cutter, but now I have two more from Fat Quarter Shop. These come in handy when using rotary cutters or trying to mark off fabric, so the more the better!

Bonus Item: Fat Quarter Shop Twill Ribbon - $3.99

This is really cute ribbon, but I'm unsure what I would use it for. Fat Quarter Shop recommends using it for quilt tags, which I can see. I'll probably find a use for it around the house!

Blue Alphabitties Specialty Marking Tools - $7.99

These are brilliant. I cut my fabric for the square above, and then had to keep going back to try to figure out which fabric coordinated with each letter. These are meant to be used to mark off the fabric when you cut so you know at-a-glance what comes next!

Crayola Fat Quarter Box by Riley Blake Designs - $28.98

These are the cutest ever. I love that they come in a box that looks exactly like a Crayola box! Fat Quarter Shop did send out an email regarding this fabric - a few subscribers noticed that when they pulled the tape off the fabric, the fabric was discolored from the tape. They recommended that subscribers contact Riley Blake Designs for a replacement - so be sure to do so if you received one of the batches with the defect. Mine were perfect, and the colors are so vibrant - it's going to be fun to work with this!

Frixion Erasable Black Gel Pen - $2.99

Erasable pens or chalk pens are so handy when sewing and I am really happy to have one of these. I just went out and purchased chalk a few days ago, so when this showed up I thought they must have been reading my mind! I'm going to attempt a maxi dress by Mimi G and this will come in handy for sure!

Shimmer Quilt Pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew - $8.98

I really like this quilt pattern. I am amassing quite a collection of quilt patterns with this box and can't wait to have time to start on another one. This quilt pattern is fat quarter friendly and the finished sizes are baby, throw, twin, queen, and king.

Verdict: This box has a value of $60.38. I'm not sure how Fat Quarter Shop does it every month, but they always deliver an amazing value for the money and an awesome box! This month, the value of the box is double the cost. This is my favorite quilt box by far - they send useful and fun items, and I am really enjoying the block a month quilt along!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

Fancy_That

Fat Quarter Shop posted a Youtube video where they used ribbon in this box on a pin cushion or some other item. I can’t find it now. I have a pin cushion from Primitive Gatherings that uses similar twill ribbon. This month’s box got me off the fence. I bought the subscription and the previous 2 month’s block recipe cards. Can’t wait for my next box!
