I have to be honest, I am so picky with perfumes and scents that I was a bit nervous to have someone else pick them out for me! I filled out a little survey in my account with the perfumes that I currently wear and like, and Scent Trunk chose three samples to send to me. They arrived in a bubble mailer with a box inside. The box had the three samples, cards explaining the perfume, and a little booklet explaining how to apply it and smell it properly!

Scent Trunk also has a points program and you can find out more information about that on their FAQ page!

Falling into the Sea by Imaginary Authors - Value $3.80

This perfume is described as sunshine in a bottle. The top notes are grapefruit and litchi, the middle notes are lemon and bergamot, and the base notes are warm sand. The longevity is a 4 out of 5 and the sillage is 4 out of 5 as well.

I've seen this brand in my local Anthropologie store! I was really excited that I knew of one of the perfumers, at least in passing. When I first smelled this one, I wasn't sure about it, but it is definitely growing on me the longer it sits. It's a warmer citrus scent, if that makes any sense! The perfumer writes short stories (as in, one paragraph long) to go with the perfumes as well, which I think is neat!

Bouquet Ideale by Xerjoff - Value $5.86

This perfume is described as "warm and seductive...composed of powdery cashmere with vanilla and papyrus." The top notes are nutmeg and cinnamon, the middle notes are sandalwood and papyrus, and the base notes are coumarin and vanille. It's longevity is estimated to be a 4 out of 5 and the sillage is also a 4 out of 5.

Once again - I really loved this scent. It was really complex and sweet but not over the top sweet. There are definitely some great notes in this one. With the full size bottle being $293.00, I'm not sure I can afford this one, but wow it's amazing.

Pour Elle by Chateau de Versallies - Value $1.52

This perfume is described as a 'chypre-floral fragrance introducing an intoxicating, seductive bouquet." The top notes are cherry and bergamot, the middle notes are freesia and jasmine, and the base notes are Canadian Fir and Tonka bean. It's longevity is estimated to be 4 out of 5, and the sillage is 3 out of 5.

I saw a red flag when I saw freesia listed here! Freesia always reminds me of the freesia from Bath and Body Works wayyyy back in the 90's, which was headache inducing. Luckily, I tried this one and I LOVED it. It is the least expensive of my perfumes in this shipment, which I consider a win!

Verdict: I ended up really loving this shipment from Scent Trunk. The value I received is about $11.18, but that isn't including the curation of the perfumes. I think much of the value here lies in the actual choosing of the perfumes for each individual subscriber. I really loved two of the perfumes I received, and the third isn't a complete loss - it is one I would wear, just not regularly. Scent Trunk does have a YouTube channel to teach their subscribers more about fragrance here, and they also ask that you log in and rate each fragrance so they can choose fragrances for you more adeptly.

I did find that the sample spritzers are a little hard to compress - but I have a current injury (nothing serious) to my hands that makes it a bit hard to operate, so you might not have the same issue!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

I’m not quiet sure I understand….. You receive 3 samples at an estimate of $11 and change, but the subscription is $18 a month?

Hi Lori, the value will change each month and will be different for each subscriber. Scent Trunk picks different fragrances based on your responses to their survey, to introduce their subscribers to artisanal perfumes that aren’t widely available to consumers. I hope this helps!

I absolutely love “Falling into the Sea”. To me, it smells like a late afternoon at the beach, when the sun is starting to go down, and you smell a mixture of sea water, sunscreen, sand, sweat and slowly rotting orange peels.

I really absolutely love it, but I don’t think it smells particularly good (but I’m huge on nostalgia, and this takes me back to vacations at the beach as a child).

I really enjoy Scent Trunk too! Maybe I should write some reviews here too….I am a perfume LOVER, and enjoy reading and writing about perfumes. Scent Trunk has only sent a couple of scents to me that I truly didn’t like; the rest I really enjoy. Plus, it’s expanding my repertoire and “forcing” me to try things I might not otherwise! Good stuff!

I LOVE finding new fragrances also. I’m a relative newbie to sub boxes (2 months), but glad I found MSA b/c of all the reviews & suggestions. I’m definitely going to give Scent Trunk a try. I like that they send a few fragrances at once. I’ve read about some Subs that only send out 1 each month….too slow for me. I’m not that patient.
Besides S.T., which other fragrance Subs would you recommend? Or even mixed Subs with scent included. I just got off the waiting list for Sephoria Play! & am glad b/c what drew me to it was a fragrance sample each month. Thanks in advance for any input!☺

I just got into Sephora Play! too…..it should be fun. I have heard that the fragrance sample is just a regular sample of whatever they are pushing right now, but I’m OK with that! 🙂

Do you do the Scentbird? That one is really worth the money…you get 8ml of whatever you choose. I love it too!

I’m also doing Olfactif every month. They do a “theme” each month, and you get 3 samples each time. I may give up one my perfume subscriptions, because there’s only so much perfume a person can wear! LOL I love it though!
