To start with, I filled out a little survey in my account with the colognes that my husband currently wears and likes, and Scent Trunk chose three samples to send to us. They arrived in a bubble mailer with a box inside. The box had the three samples, cards explaining the perfume, and a little booklet explaining how to apply it and smell it properly!

Scent Trunk also has a points program and you can find out more information about that on their FAQ page!

Field Notes from Paris by Ineke Perfumer – $2.53

This cologne is described as a woody Oriental with tobacco flower. It’s top notes are coriander and bergamot, the middle notes are patchouli and Virginia cedar, and the base notes are vanilla and tonka bean. It is rated 4 out of 5 for longevity and the sillage is 4 out of 5 as well.

I really love this one – I tried it on myself personally and it didn’t set well, but on the tester, it smells amazing. It is a very clean smell for sure.

Wild is the Wind by Atelier de Geste – $2.40?

This cologne is described as an “unexpected and complex arrangement of rosebuds, pine and smoldering musks.” The top notes are rose and geranium, the middle notes are woody pine and leather, and the base note is white musk. It has a longevity of 3 out of 5 and a sillage of 3 out of 5.

This one smells like tobacco to me for some reason! It’s very strong and I can’t say it’s my favorite. It doesn’t smell bad, but the scent isn’t up my alley. I generally choose my husband’s scents, since he is a bit ambivalent about them, and this isn’t one I would go for.

Umbra by Ramon Monegal – $3.70?

This cologne is described as “natural, sensible and vital.” The inspiration was the “Essence of the earth, capturing…vetiver root…musk…lichen and spruce balsam.” The top notes are vetiver and geranium, the middle note is Canadian Fir, and the base notes are vetiver and tonka bean. The longevity is 4 out of 5 and the sillage is 2 out of 5.

This smells peppery to me – and I like it! I think my husband would have a heart attack if I spent $185 on a cologne for him because he is very frugal, but I might sneak it in as a gift!

Verdict: I ended up really loving this shipment from Scent Trunk. The value I received is about $8.63, but that isn’t including the curation of the perfumes. I think much of the value here lies in the actual choosing of the perfumes for each individual subscriber. I liked all three of the colognes we received in this shipment. Scent Trunk does have a YouTube channel to teach their subscribers more about fragrance here, and they also ask that you log in and rate each fragrance so they can choose fragrances for you more adeptly.

I did find that the sample spritzers are a little hard to compress – but I have a current injury (nothing serious) to my hands that makes it a bit hard to operate, so you might not have the same issue!

Have you tried Scent Trunk yet?

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane…the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane…but she’s always looking for a new subscription to try!
