Subscription Box Favorites

We’re starting a new monthly post highlighting our favorite discoveries from subscription boxes! Here are our favorite items from the past month:

Lindsey’s Favorites:

The Item: The Meadow Salt Set

The Cost: $48

From: Robb Vices (Coupon: Use code MSAVICELOVE to receive a bonus gift in your first box when you sign up for a 6 or 12 month subscription!)

Why I love it: Flavored salts are so much fun to cook with, and I love that this set contains a creative variety. I haven’t had a chance to try them all yet (I’m still brainstorming a use for chocolate salt…), but the ones I have tried are excellent. So far, the Fleur de Hell (spicy fleur de sel) is my favorite.

The Item: Miya Company Sauce Dishes

The Cost: $4 each

From: Hamptons Lane (Coupon: Use coupon code Subscription10 to save $10 off your first box!)

Why I love it: These little sauce dishes are so pretty! They’re great for holding soy sauce (Hamptons Lane sent them in their sushi box for that use), but I love them so much that I’ve been using them every chance I get! So far, I’ve also used them to serve olives, lemon wedges, nuts, and grated parmesan.

The Item: Art in the Age Root Liquor

The Cost: $35

From: Crafted Taste

Why I love it: Alcohol that tastes like root beer?! Yes, please! Crafted Taste sent this spiced, aromatic spirit as an ingredient for their featured June cocktail, Thai Spiced Ginger Beer.

The cocktail was great, and I’ve since experimented with using root liquor in a few other recipes. Next up, I’m going to try making an alcoholic root beer float!

Celicia’s Favorites:

The Item: Madam CJ Walker – Humidity Block Curl Gel Sample

The Cost: $2.00

From: Essence Beauty Box (Coupon:

For a limited time, use coupon code FIRSTBOX to get your first box for just $1! OR While supplies last, use coupon code SUNSHINE get a free box plus save 20% off a 6-month or 12-month subscription!)

Why I love it: The kiddos curls have been popping this past month. I’m giving credit to their looser curl patterns with the added humidity blocking properties in this gel. It’s working really well and I love that it doesn’t leave a heavy film and doesn’t dry their hair down to a crunch. It’s really the best “frizz control” product they’ve used all year.

The Item: Father’s Names – Special Occasion Card

The Cost: $4.50

From: Haven Paperie

Why I love it: This card was particularly special for me because I gave it to my father in person. We’ve don’t get to see my parents due to schedules but we were overjoyed to have my parents for the whole month. He said this was their favorite vacation in a long time. I love that the cards from Haven Paperie are unique, functional, and leave just enough room to make the card even more personal.

The Item: Truly You – Silky Smooth Scalp Treatment – 4oz

The Cost: $30.00

From: Onyx Box

Why I love it: Surprise, Surprise! An oil makes my top list again. This one is really working for me. I use it head to toe mixed with the lotion that came with the Essence Beauty subscription for a softer scent.

Anna’s Favorites:

The Item: My newfound love of wood burning

The Cost: This particular kit is $44.99

From: Adults & Crafts (Coupon: Use code MYSUBADD to save 10% off your subscription!)

Why I love it: I love finding new crafting techniques that I really enjoy, and that’s exactly what happened with my June box from Adults & Crafts. Wood burning is possibly the most zen craft of all times (to me), plus I think the results look very impressive!

The Item: Speaqua Barnacle + with Bluetooth & 4GB Memory

The Cost: $64.95

From: Nomadik (Coupon: Use code ADDICTION15 to save 15% off your first box!)

Why I love it: This is my new best friend in all outdoor situations. Finally, a speaker that’s loud enough for use outside! Plus it’s tiny, it’s waterproof, and I can pair with anything through the bluetooth! What more could I ask for? Oh, I know, how about having its own internal memory to store tunes when it’s offline? Check!

The Item: Luzon Daypack by Cotopaxi

The Cost:  $34.99

From: Cairn

Why I love it: It’s a fully functional, rugged backpack that has an internal volume of 18L.  When not in use, it can be folded in on itself and stored in its own pocket, which is about the size of a makeup bag from ipsy!  I also love the colors and design of these packs.  I’m sending it with one of my boys to scout camp this week.  Fingers crossed it returns to me in good condition!

Emily’s Favorites:

The Item: Scandinaviaform Bud Vase

The Cost: $15

From: BRIKA Subscription Gift Box

Why I love it: I love the mix of materials use on this bud vase. The copper and ceramic parts are softened by the addition of cork. It’s simple and perfect for holding a single flower or sprig of eucalyptus!

The Item: A Beautiful Mess 4×6 Journal Cards

The Cost: ?

From: A Beautiful Mess Messy Box

Why I love it: The colorways and patterns in June’s Messy Box are so lovely. They suit my style perfectly! The patterned side of the 4×6 journal cards are my favorite pieces from the box. The dot pattern and blush tone with white hand print patterns are gorgeous!

The Item: Moglea Extraordinary Love Card

The Cost: $5.50

From: Studio Calico Stationery Kit

Why I love it: This is such a well-designed card. The thick letterpress paper is great quality and looks great with the gold foil embossing. The neon paint splatters are a nice, unexpected touch.

Ragan’s Favorites:

The Item: Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream

The Cost: $4.63

From: Birchbox Frizz Fighters Kit (Coupon: Try any of these free gift with purchase coupons on orders of $35 or more!)

Why I love it: This was a good detangler when I used it on damp hair. Plus, it gave me one of the best hair days ever the next day!

The Item: 2-Hole Lentil with California Coating

The Cost: ?

From: Dollar Bead Box

Why I love it: I have this thing for flat round and square beads. And I really like how the bracelet I made with these turned out, too!

The Item: Cat Butt Pillow Cases

The Cost: Value $31.99

From: Cat Lady Box

Why I love it: I have never gotten pillow cases in a subscription box before, and these are cute. Plus, I needed new pillow cases, and I already sleep with actual cat butts in my face!

The Item: Rachel’s Plan Bee Original Body Polish

The Cost: $20

From: BoxWalla Green Beauty Box

Why I love it: I love scrubs and use them every day. This has a light citrus scent with a hint of vanilla and it is just the perfect texture (for me) for a scrub. This was full size and I am almost out of it already!

Haley’s Favorites:

The Item: 100% Turkish Cotton Beach/Picnic Blanket

The Cost: $24.99

From: Little Lace Box (Coupon: Save $10 off your first single box (MSA10), or save $15 off your first 6-month subscription (MSA15), or save $20 off your first annual subscription (MSA20)!)

Why I Love It: They said they picked this towel specifically because it’s really 100% Turkish cotton and not one that’s actually a blend trying to pass as such. This is gorgeous! I think this is one of my favorite subscription box items so far in all of 2016. It feels amazing and is really big! I got a Turkish Towel from a PopSugar Resort LE box a couple years back, and this is so much larger (and softer). Truly a blanket and not a towel!

The Item: Now Solutions Ultrasonic USB Oil Diffuser

The Cost: $26.99 (on sale for $19.49)

From: PureFormulas Essentials Oil Subscription Box

Why I Love It: This diffuser is great! Being USB, the cord can hook into your computer for use at a cubicle or desk or you can use an adapter for an outlet, which is what I do. I love having multiple diffusers and I love that this one glows different colors as well as having an option to not light up at all while running.

The Item: Striped Summer Dress

The Cost: $78

From: Golden Tote

Why I Love It: This is a fantastic dress and I am so glad I picked it as one of my 2 chosen items for my large tote (the $149 tote)! The embroidered top is such a cute pop of color and the striped body is stretchy, soft, and comfortable. The length is also pretty good for me! (I’m tall and often end up with dresses that are too short from subscriptions.)

Bekki’s Favorites:

EFL4 8.55.37 PM

The Item: Jar Goods Classic Red Sauce

The Cost: $9.00

From: The Pantry Box by Eat.Feed.Love (Coupon: Save 50% off your first month with code mysubscriptionaddiction!)

Why I love it: I usually make my own red sauce, whether I am making pizza or pasta. My go to recipe is really simple, but there are times when I just want to grab a jar out of the pantry. This is that jar – it is packed to the top with excellent flavor of tomato and just hinting at other flavors – exactly the way I like it!

The Item: Bouquet Ideale by Xerjoff

The Cost: Sample/$5.86 Full Size/$293.00

From: Scent Trunk for Women (Coupon: Click here for a free trial!)

Why I love it: This perfume is described as “warm and seductive…composed of powdery cashmere with vanilla and papyrus.” The top notes are nutmeg and cinnamon, the middle notes are sandalwood and papyrus, and the base notes are coumarin and vanille.  It’s longevity is estimated to be a 4 out of 5 and the sillage is also a 4 out of 5.

I really loved this scent.  It was really complex and sweet but not over the top sweet.  There are definitely some great notes in this one.

The Item: Blueberry Peach Shortcake Pedicure Kit

The Cost: $6.99

From: Fruit for Thought (Coupon: Use code MSA10 to save 10% off your first box!)

Why I love it: I really enjoyed the scents of the products in this pedicure kit. I said in the initial review that I wasn’t one for scented products, and that still stands true, but this stuff smelled good enough to eat. In addition to the scent being amazing, the products were also great – the foot cream moisturized my feet really well! I would definitely pick these up for the next spa party I throw.

Nancy S’ Favorites:

The Item: Tsugaru Apple Sakeru Gummy

From: Japan Crate (Coupon: Save $5 off your first Original or Premium box with code MSA5!)

Why I love it: Something about the sparkling apple scent makes my mouth water! It’s a daintier version of Twizzlers but the taste is more refined. I’ve already begun to look for this candy in the States.

The Item: Skin&Lab Vitamin K Cream

The Cost: $25

From: PinkSeoul Box (Coupon: Save 10% off your first box with code MSA10!)

Why I love it: It’s difficult to find skincare that doesn’t make my face feel heavy or sticky, so this is a rarity! It’s a lightweight but moisturizing face cream that gets rid of dry face patches with continued use. I can also use this under makeup with no difficulty.

The Item: Adjustable Elven Leaf Ring

From: Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly (Coupon: Save 25% off your first box with code MSA25!)

Why I love it: Even though this is a Lord of the Rings inspired piece, it’s so versatile I love wearing for any occasion! The band is very sturdy and the green enamel is gorgeous.

Jessica’s Favorites:

The Item: May Designs Lined Notebook

The Cost: $15

From: Willie Wags (Coupon: Save 10% off your first box with code MYSUBADDICTION10!)

Why I love it: This notebook is gorgeous, the perfect size to throw in my bag and go and I love that it’s lined. They are customizable with tons of options so I think they’ll make great inexpensive gifts this holiday season as well.

Planet Maker

Charlie Planet

The Item: Bouncing Planet Maker

The Cost: $12.99

From: UChest Kids (Coupon: Save 50% off your first box with code 50OFF)

Why I love it: My son still talks about how much fun he had making these bouncy balls. It was easy and fun to do and the balls have lasted so far by keeping them in a sealed plastic bag when not in use to avoid having them dry out.

Quinn Shorts

The Item: Hatley Seersucker Anchor Shorts

The Cost: $34

From: Runchkins (Coupon: Save 20% off your first box! Coupon deactivates when limit is reached. No code needed – just link here!)

Why I love it: These shorts were just adorable and I loved their bloomer style with the button details.

Shawn’s Favorites:

The Item: Evian Brumisateur Facial Spray 1.7 oz.

The Cost: $7.50

From: Tennis Trunk (Coupon: Use code MSA05 to save $5 off your first box!)

Why I love it: I spent a lot of time outdoors at swim meets this month and not only did I feel oh so pampered with my Evian Facial Spray but it actually worked to make feel a bit cooler and definitely less gross and sweaty.

The Item: Chroma Club June Coloring Book

The Cost: $8.00

From: Chroma Club (Coupon: Use coupon code HALFOFF to save 50% off your first month!)

Why I love it: This month’s Chroma Club booklet had excellent artwork! Me, Apple White and the Littlest Pet Shops had fun coloring the book together.

Nancy M’s Favorites:

MIB-necklace on

The Item: Skelligs Jewellery “You Are My Rock” Necklace

The Cost: €100.00? ($112.57?)

From: MyIrelandBox Subscription Box

Why I love it: I love the simplicity and meaning of this necklace. It’s real sterling silver and great quality. It is hand made by Louise, founder and creator of Skelligs Jewellery, in her studio in County Kerry. She castes select pieces of slate rock in solid silver so the organic texture, shape and layers of the rock from Ireland’s South West coast are captured and can always be treasured. It is too unique and beautiful to not list as a favorite (and wear all the time)!

The Item: Royal Bracelet

The Cost: $18.00

From: The Trendy Box (Coupon: Use code Trendy20 to save 20% off your first box! (code can be entered in the Cart))

Why I love it: I love multi layer bracelets and tassels so I really love the combination of both. The colors are really pretty and goes with practically everything. I also like how the beads give it a casual but trendy feel.  I’ve worn this at least once a week and get tons of compliments!

BB5-sweep oval brush

The Item: Sweep Beauty Oval Face Brush

The Cost: $15.00

From: Beauty Box 5 Subscription Box (Coupon: Receive a free bonus Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in your first box! ($24 value). No coupon needed, just subscribe here!)

Why I love it: This brush is so soft it’s hard not to love it! I’ve never had a brush like this or seen one before so I was excited to receive it. You use this brush to gently dust on highlighter or precisely place bronzer or blush on your cheeks. It blends like a champ and is a great addition to my makeup bag.

  1. Just wanted to say that I am really enjoying this new series. It highlights boxes that might not be on my radar. Thanks for doing it!

  2. Thanks everyone for creating this post. I love reading it each month!

If you like the Miya dishes and you like cats, by sure to check out Miya’s cat themed items including the chopstick rests and especially the “cat eyes dessert plate set.” OMG – Those plates are sooooo cute!! Not cheap, but I really feel I must have them.!

  3. Eric,

Did you see that John Barrowman (Captain Harkness from Dr. Who & Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow) cosplayed Squirrel Girl at the San Diego Comic-Con? It was HILARIOUS & just overall fabulous! I had, quite honestly, never heard of “Squirrel Girl” before I saw his pics from Comic-Con, but I just had to find out more info once I discovered those photos! They made me laugh so hard! I included a link in case you haven’t seen them yet! Is this Funko Pop available on Amazon or in any stores? I’d love to get one for myself in honor of my 2nd favorite Dr. Who character (I realize that someone hasn’t seen the pics of his cosplay, this comment makes absolutely no sense, but I get it, so it doesn’t matter! Lol!).

  4. I have googled the Royal Bracelet and I’m only coming up with UK Royals ?Any idea where I can get these bracelets??

  5. Lindsey,
Chocolate salt? First thing that came to my mind: sift baked pretzels. I bet that would taste ah-mazing!

    • Oooohhhh that’s a great idea!! Thanks! 🙂

    • How about caramels or caramel topped sugar cookies with chocolate salt sprinkled on top? Although the pretzels sound great too.

      • Chocolate salt on caramels sounds really really good!

    • Sprinkled on the top of brownies?

      • The New York Times has a very famous recipe for the best chocolate chip cookies in the world (haven’t tried it, because, everyone says that!), and one of the things he emphasizes is putting salt on the top! ‘Nuff said.
