Included was an information card with a list of the items for the month. This month’s theme was “Head to the Beach.” (Note: This is the June box. This subscriptions ships from the UK so it took a little longer to get to me. Also, I had to go pick this up at the post office since a signature was required. So if you are not usually at home, you may want to have it delivered to your workplace.)
Although a lot of the items are custom-made for the box, the makers are selling similar items on Etsy. So I have usually linked to their Etsy shops and taken the values from similar items.
There was also an advertisement for a product that is supposed to keep your cat from scaling the backyard fence and escaping, but I think this is a UK-only offer.
Sunglass Case – Value $8.99
Cat Eye Sunglasses – Value $10 (?)
I always forget I can wear sunglasses since I am using contacts these days. I think I will remember for these, though. I have always liked this shape of lenses. And the case is perfect for keeping them safe in my purse.
Cotton Tote – Value $9.53
I’m probably not going to the beach anytime soon, but this will be useful carrying day-to-day items around. Plus, you know, it’s got a picture of cats on it.
Colorful Cats Luggage Tags – Value $7
I don’t have a good luggage tag. And these are bright, so they will make my plain black suitcase stand out on airport baggage carousels.
Cat Candy Toy – Value $5.25
This is from a UK brand so it’s not something we would’ve gotten to experience, normally. It’s a bit large for my kitties, but it has RIBBONS, so they like it.
Catnip Lip Balm – Value $3.95
This is a thick lip balm and it’s pretty moisturizing. It’s a little minty. I’m not sure catnip is my favorite flavor, but my cats did sniff me a lot when I had this on, so that was funny.
Encore 100% Natural Cat Food – Value $2
I took the value from the information card here since this is a non-US brand. My cats pretty much inhaled this.
Mason and Cash Ceramic Cat Bowl – Value $7.91
This is cute and I will be needing a new cat bowl soon (my reward for losing weight is going to be a new cat and I am only 12 pounds away from my goal right now…).
And now for the kitty photos…
Checking out the catnip lip balm.
Playing with the ribbon from the packaging materials.
Hanging out in a sunny spot with the cat toy.
Devouring the kitty food sample.
Angrily watching the other kitties eat the food sample. (Mr. Kitty can’t have fish due to his IBD so I had to keep him away from the food.)
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $54.63 for the June 2016 My Purrfect Gift Box. This is somewhat under the cost of the box plus shipping to the US, and this box is probably a considerably better deal if you are a customer in the UK. There was a little bit of a mismatch between prices quoted on the information card and what I actually found some of the Etsy items selling for, but the card was probably printed before the Brexit vote! (And there may have been July 4th sales going on when I was looking up items, as well, plus many of the Etsy merchants were in the US and would’ve had to ship the items overseas to be packed into the boxes.) At any rate, if you bought from each of the Etsy merchants individually, you’d have to pay shipping that amounts to more than the difference between the calculated value and the box price. So you will kind of have to make your own value judgment on whether that is worth it to you or not. I did think all the items were fun and fit the theme, and my cats had fun with the box contents as well!
