Angel Kitty Toys Octopus (?) or Jellyfish (?) – Value $6 (?)
I don’t know what this is supposed to be. It only has six tentacles so maybe it is not an octopus. But, the cats loved it. (I take it away when I am not around because I don’t want anyone eating any long stringy things.) Unfortunately, “angel kitty toys” is too generic a term to find this manufacturer via Google. This is exclusive for Meowbox.
Le Sharma Trading Wool Worm (?) – Value $3.50 (?)
Monkey liked this. I am pretty sure my husband’s hand ended up bleeding from Monkey’s attempts to swat at it, though…These are handmade in Nepal but don’t seem to be for sale on the manufacturer’s site.
Meowbox Logo Catnip Toy – Value $2.95
Monkey liked this. He kept rubbing his chin/cheek on it. But none of the pictures really turned out.
Bavarian Cat Toy Baldi Mouse – Value $6.99
This is still in the bag in this photo because these have a very strong scent. They are supposed to have valerian and spelt (a grain that is related to wheat) inside, but toys from this company have a distinctive odor that reminds me of dirty gym socks or something. Monkey was particularly interested in this when I did open the bag. (I am sensing a theme here. Monkey was interested in EVERYTHING in this box.)
Feel Good Treats Jambalaya Snapz (1.76 oz) – Value $2.29 (?)
This is a wheat, corn, and soy free treat that was created exclusively for Meowbox. From what I can tell, they are made in Canada. These have a little shrimp in them (that it is all it takes), which my kitties have been more interested in lately. Since these are custom, I took the value from other liver treats from the same company in the same sized-bag.
Cat photos ahead!
Basement kitty is skeptical.
I think I enjoyed this toy as much as the cats did. Actually probably more, considering the look on Madison’s face.
Monkey with the octopus or jellyfish or whatever it is.
Monkey also wanted the worm.
The cats liked slapping at the tentacles of this thing.
Sneaky bites something!
Even Mr. Kitty didn’t get spared. He was a good sport. (He has a new issue with one of his eyes but it doesn’t seem as bad as last time.)
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $21.73 for the July Meowbox. That is significantly lower than the cost of the box plus shipping, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind here. One, many of these items are exclusives and can’t be bought online, so the prices are guesses and could be quite a bit higher. Second, even though the value is low, at least one of my cats (usually Monkey) liked every single item in the box. That doesn’t often happen with cat subscriptions, although it helps when you have a lot of cats.
So, I am a little conflicted here and am hesitant to make a recommendation one way or the other. This is a pretty typical month in terms of value for Meowbox and not really a good value for a month-to-month subscription, but if you can find a deal and purchase multiple months at a time, that makes it a little better. I also like the move towards more exclusive items (something KitNipBox does very well, by the way). I am kind of taking a wait-and-see approach with this one.
What did you think of the July 2016 Meowbox? Do you subscribe to any cat boxes?
