LATHEROLOGY JULY 2016 - info 1

Here’s a little more detail about how the process works. (Also, I love their website’s design!)

First, you choose your base, which means you say whether you have natural hair or treated hair.

Then,  you choose a carrier oil – they have so many options! I also love how you can click each option to see details about it and the benefits it provides. It definitely helps you make an educated choice about what you want the formula to do.

Lastly, you pick your essential oils! You can pick up to two. Again, they have many options and I love learning more about what each oil does in regards to hair care before adding it to my formula.

And that’s it! Their featured mix idea this month include bergamot and sweet orange. I picked a different combination for my set, but honestly I really want to try this delicious-smelling combination next.

Inside each box is a little info card. One main thing it talks about how their formulas are low-lather because they’re made without harmful sulfates. Good to know – your hair is still getting clean without it!

And each box also includes a little note from your “latherologist” and has the information about your carrier oil and essential oil choices, as well.

Here are my mixes! I was sent the 4-oz bottle package. I think the “No parabens, no sulfates, no regrets” bit is cute. I chose a Jojoba carrier oil (with a treated hair base), and for my essential oils I chose Grapefruit and Lemongrass. Jojoba oil is supposed to add shine, elasticity, and softness while helping repair damage from heat styling and encouraging growth. Grapefruit smells amazing and is uplifting and fresh, and also helps promote hair health and shine. Lastly, Lemongrass is purifying and invigorating and helps with hair loss (which I experienced post-partum) and strengthens hair follicles.

I’ve been using these for about a week straight now and I have to say I really do like them! They smell fantastic. The minimal lather did take some getting used to for me – I had to play with it a little and learn to trust I was using enough. And I was, because my hair always ended up being clean (and soft!).

LATHEROLOGY JULY 2016 - items 2

While this shampoo and conditioner didn’t work a miracle on my hair, I definitely feel like it was kinder and less harsh to it. My hair felt thicker, stronger, and smoother than what it normally does. I also thought it looked shinier.

Verdict: I really like this Latherology shampoo and conditioner and the way they smell and make my hair feel. I loved the experience of creating the formula and picking the ingredients was fun, too. I think it’s pricier than what many people currently spend on shampoo and conditioner ($15/month for 4 oz of each), so I think that is a factor that narrows their target market to those who really get value out of creating their own formulas, committing to natural hair care, and getting a new formula mixed fresh each month for them individually.

Cool idea and its nice that you don’t have to commit to a monthly subscription. I wish it was cruelty-free. Their website says they don’t test on animals but nothing about being cruelty-free. People are so up in arms about sulfates and parabens but not nearly as much as cruelty-free. It’s possible to have it all.

Wow! Amazing concept! I make my own hair products at home and you should see a difference in about a week or so.

I’ll be honest… I only wash my hair once, maybe twice a week.
This maybe something for me to look into!

Thanks!
