GOLDEN TOTE 59 TOTE JULY 2016 - BOX

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from)

Also, they send your items in a differently designed tote every month! This month’s is a really cute ice cream design, but since I got 2 totes in one order they sent me one of last month’s pineapple design instead of giving me 2 ice cream totes. They do this to make sure there’s enough for every order to get at least 1 monthly tote.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Golden Tote has recently made updates to their return policy – now you can easily go into your order history and return individual items (it used to be an all-or-nothing deal). This month they’re also promoting their Facebook buy/sell/trade group, which is a great group for finding items you missed (whether or not you bought a tote), selling items that don’t work for you, and seeing a lot of reveals of the totes others get.

Personally, I think the Facebook group is a great idea and really helps reduce the amount of risk involved in getting surprise items/clothing online. You can also swap for any subscription box goodies on our swap site, too!

In each tote they toss in a styling card for your chosen items.

GOLDEN TOTE 59 TOTE JULY 2016 - ITEMS 1

Time & Lace Tank – value: $40

This was my chosen item this month and I love it! From the model photos, I thought the material would be a stiffer fabric but it’s actually a nice soft knit. I’ve been living in tanks this summer, so I’m happy to add this to my wardrobe.

Teenplo Printed Swing Tunic – value: $40

This tunic is so comfortable! I also think it’s flattering. I love the color and think the print is cool. I wore it paired with shorts but it would also be really cute paired with skinnies or leggings.

Verdict: I’m happy with both my items in my July Mini Tote! I think both pieces are very wearable and versatile as far as styling goes. The value I got from this tote is $80 for $59 – I’m happy with that.

Hi Haley, you are looking so amazing and stylish in these outfits. The color and the fabric are so beautiful. Tank is superb. I loved it. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Haley- first of all, your closet must be huge to fit all these clothes 🙂 Second, I don’t know how you ever send anything back because everything always looks amazing on you. But I’m wondering- I’d really love to venture into a clothing sub because I don’t have much time to shop these days. I like the style of stitch fix but the items always seem a bit overpriced to me. Of all these clothing subs, what are your favorites?

LT –
Thanks! And yes, there’s tons of clothing subscriptions. I do love my Stitch Fix, but I personally really favor Golden Tote right now, especially the large tote. I love that I pay $149 and get 5 items (two I pick, three surprises) to keep instead of debating and justifying and huffing about what should I keep from my fix, do I like an item enough, will I reach for it, and not to mention keeping all 5 items is rarely/basically never only $149. Also, GT has no styling fee that I lose if I don’t like my tote enough and decide to send everything back. I’m a member of the Golden Tote Trading facebook group and the Sarahs (the founders) and their customer service are very active and involved, which I really like feeling how personal and interactive they are with their customer base.

The style profile is very thorough and there’s so much space to talk (very specifically) about what you do/don’t want, plus a place for comments and to upload a style collage (think “mood board”) of your style, too. I find that the stylists are great about sticking to your preferences, and you can even ask for certain things in case they have them available, like “I’m looking for cardigans for fall!” or “Only maxi dresses, please.” or “Nothing with a low neckline” or “I need some new skirts.” I also love picking 2 of my items.

I hope that helps! I love Stitch Fix and Golden Tote, they’re just very different. 🙂

I love that tunic! I don’t subscribe to Golden Tote, but I might in the future when I see a stunning collection. I used to not subscribe because I have a pear-shaped body, and I am very particular about the fit of my clothing. I know what looks good on me and I rarely deviate from those cuts. Since Golden Tote has updated their return policy, however, I am more interested in giving them a try! I don’t wear short skirts or shorts, so I have been hesitant to try Golden tote in the summer. I can’t wait to treat myself to a cozy sweater or must-have new cardigan this fall. I enjoy reading your reviews. You have such a cute figure, too.

Hey Jennifer, I actually got a cardigan this month!! They haven’t sent me anything short (except a pair of shorts that I specifically chose). I find GT excels at choosing things I would not have chosen for myself if I had seen them in a store, but end up LOVING! You should give it a try! Worst case, you return the whole tote right? Best case, you find a new favorite place to buy clothes. I haven’t bought clothes from any other store in 4 months because they do such a good job of fitting my body and style. The things that run big or small can always be given to friends/family or easily swapped on the MSA swap site!

Thank you, Jennifer! Have you made an account/style profile with them yet? There’s so much room to say what you don’t want and what you are looking for! It’s very thorough, plus there’s a space for extra notes and to upload a style collage (think “mood board” for your style). You make your profile separate from ordering so you can do it anytime. I’m super duper confident you can make exactly what you said to me clear to the stylists and not even have to worry about getting things you don’t want!
