If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from). For the $149 tote, you pick 2 items, and get 3-4 more surprise items based on your style profile.

FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it.

You get a different tote every month, too! I seriously love this ice cream design!

Golden Tote has recently made updates to their return policy – now you can easily go into your order history and return individual items (it used to be an all-or-nothing deal). This month they’re also promoting their Facebook buy/sell/trade group, which is a great group for finding items you missed (whether or not you bought a tote), selling items that don’t work for you, and seeing a lot of reveals of the totes others get.

Personally, I think the Facebook group is a great idea and really helps reduce the amount of risk involved in getting surprise items/clothing online. You can also swap for any subscription box goodies on our swap site, too!

In each tote they toss in a styling card for your chosen items.

Puella Spliced Swing Dress –value: $78

Oh, Puella. Your swing dresses have forever changed my wardrobe and the silhouettes I choose to wear. This dress is so flatteringly draped. There was a blue version, too, but I have so much blue in my wardrobe and basically zero green so I picked this version. I love it. The fit is great and the length is pretty nice and a little longer than some other swing dresses I’ve tried. This will definitely be an easy-to-wear go-to Summer piece for me.

GOLDEN TOTE 149 TOTE JULY 2016 - items 2

Juicy Watermelon Dress – value: $45

Do you see this fabric? How incredible is it?! The material is airy and light, and LINED so you don’t have to worry about it being see through at all! I’m obsess with this dress, except….

GOLDEN TOTE 149 TOTE JULY 2016 - items 3

…It’s just not bra friendly. Cue heartbreak. I can’t even make a racerback work with it, so the only way to wear a bra is a strapless, which is laughable at my size/while breastfeeding.

This dress is by Everly and they did make a tank in this print (that’s bra friendly!!), but from some of the different model photos I’ve seen from googling, it’s not lined and is somewhat see through. I may not let that stop me, though.

GOLDEN TOTE 149 TOTE JULY 2016 - items 4

Le Amis Floral Wrap Dress – value: $40

This dress fits superbly. It’s a true wrap dress, and is very comfortable to wear. I just don’t think the print is my style, though.

GOLDEN TOTE 149 TOTE JULY 2016 - items 5

Gilli Ribbed Cardigan – value: $40

This cardigan is nice. It’s a lighter, breathable fabric which makes it a great choice for spring/summer or for keeping with you for throwing on when cold in a restaurant or something. The material does seem like one that would snag easily, though.

GOLDEN TOTE 149 TOTE JULY 2016 - items 6

Sweet Claire White Floral Dress – value: $40

YOU GUYS. I am obsessed with this dress! It’s definitely up there with my all-time favorite items I’ve received from Golden Tote! And it’s lined (swoon) to the knee and the hemline has some interesting shape to it as it comes up on the sides. It just gives a little extra detail to the dress, I feel. The floral fabric is stunning, too. Love!

Verdict: This month’s Golden Tote was great! I’m sad the watermelon dress won’t work for me, and I’m on the fence with the wrap dress, but I love all my other items so I’m happy! As far as value goes, I got $243 of clothing for $149, so that’s a win for me, too.

What do you think about Golden Tote? Which items did you pick this month? Get any good surprises?

Keri – Your best bet is Googling. I ran a query for “sweet clair floral dress” and I found a t-shirt in the same fabric on Modcloth http://bit.ly/2af0b9L ! Hopefully you can to some deeper digging on the net and find the dress. 🙂

I LOVE the wrap dress! The print is lovely but not too much. If I could pull off wearing it I would, and I don’t like to wear dresses.

Which brings me to my question- can you tell them no dresses? Thanks!

Haley Faye

Tracy, thank you! And yes, you can! In that case you’d get a tote of tops, cardigans, skirts, or maybe rarely joggers/soft pants. Of course, you can ask for all tops, no skirts, etc. Whatever you want. 🙂

I wish they would make golden tote xl

The watermellon dress is so cute! Try it with a lacey bralette or bandeau… they are meant to be seen, so it woudln’t really matter if it was showing in the back. They work for everyone, really. I’m a DDD and I wear one often. Or you could always try a front closure strapless to make it easier for breast feeding.

Haley- thanks for taking the time to reply to me on your other golden tote post! Between your thoughts and these amazing dresses, I think I’m sold on giving it a try. For what it’s worth, I think the print on that wrap dress looks amazing on you… it’s my favorite. And I’m 100% with you when it comes to regular bra or bust (no pun intended)… So the back of that watermelon dress is heartbreaking. Nordstrom has some great and inexpensive strap converters- you could probably find something that would work!

The wrap dress is gorgeous and perfect for a transition into late summer! The blue cardigan looks great with it. You could also wear it with a brown cardigan and leggings for early fall. IMO.

You look great in all of those dresses! You have a lovely figure. Such a tragedy that they ruined the watermelon dress with that crazy back. I don’t know what designers are thinking this year, so many shirts, tanks and dresses that need strapless bras!

Hey Haley, how about a lace racer back…that may work in a nude color or even a white, pink or green?? Super cute!

Don’t want to be a negative Nancy, but just want to put out there that I used the official GT swap/trade group on FB and I got burned. It was totally documented that I got scammed, but the GT admins wouldn’t take the swapper off of the page, or even issue a warning about her so that the same thing wouldn’t happen to others. I’m sure that there have been thousands of successful trades and I was the rare exception, but the fact that they didn’t have any safeguards against bad trades (like the MSA swap page does) kind of soured me to the whole group. Luckily I was insured, so it worked out fine for me.

That watermelon dress is fab, I would have loved to get that one instead of the plain grey tshirt dress I got this month.

I got the puella and the wrap dress as well. I fell in love with the watermelon dress too, but I knew it didn’t have stretch and just wouldn’t fit. I did find a tab sleeve blouse in that same print on mod cloth, but it must be out of stock as I can’t seem to find a link. 🙁

This stuff always looks so old lady like to me when they send out the sneak peaks, but always look great on you Hayley!

I adore that watermelon dress but what a serious womp, womp on the back. I’d be disappointed too, I hate clothes that require a special bra. 🙁 Maybe a light pink (or even bold pink) razor tank top would work under it so you could at least wear a razor back bra?
