Chococurb is an artisan chocolate box. They have three subscription 'sizes' so to speak: their mini, which is what I am reviewing today, the nano (review coming soon!) and their regular subscription. Their mini box is a newer addition and they promise three chocolate products per month. They also have a shop, so you can repurchase the chocolates that you love!
OK people, ChocoCurb has the right idea when it comes to shipping chocolate. They shipped it in a cooler. A COOLER with ICE PACKS. It was 108 degrees at my house today, and only one teeny little truffle was a bit soft when I received my box. Everything else was perfectly intact - that's how you ship chocolate in the summer!
Look at those luscious chocolate bars - all nice and perfectly unmelted...some subs could take a page from Chococurb for sure!
Dick Taylor Craft Chocolate - Maple Coconut - $8.50
This is the second time I've received this bar from Chococurb, but I'm not complaining! I love it. Dick Taylor chocolate comes in the best packaging on the market. It's a very high quality paper envelope, embossed and etched with an illustration - this would be awesome chocolate to gift.
The top of the chocolate bar was embossed with a gorgeous design, and the back of it was sprinkled with coconut. It is 72% Belize chocolate (fun fact: I'm married to a Belizean, so this excited me!) so it is definitely on the darker side of the chocolate scale. I barely tasted the coconut, which was fine with me! It was amazingly smooth for dark chocolate and had a definite sweet flavor that wasn't too strong.
Willie's Cacao - Milk of the Gods - Rio Caribe 44 - $2.00?
This milk chocolate bar is 26 grams of pure milk chocolate delight. This isn't the super sweet, flavorless milk chocolate you know and hate - this was lightly sweetened with the chocolate flavor coming through strongly, but still cut with the creaminess of milk. Put simply, I'm bummed (and maybe relieved) that I can't find this one on Chococurb's website, because I might have purchased quite a bit of it!
Ethereal Confections - Caramel Almonds, Cacao Nibs, and Sea Salt - $7.50?
Another beautifully packaged chocolate bar! This is 66% cacao, so it leans to the dark side (Darth Vader would be happy). It is dairy free, and made here in the US! This bar has the almonds, cacao nibs and sea salt scattered across the back of the chocolate bar, instead of mixed in. It's delicious, and the flavors hit your palate at different times because it's not all mixed in together. I really liked this one!
Verdict: I really enjoyed this shipment of Chococurb Mini. All of the bars were excellent, and the value came out to $18.00. Yes, that is a little lower than the box cost, but I think you have to go into this box knowing that they're sending you super high quality chocolate and some times the value will be lower than other times.
The fact that these chocolate bars are made my individual artisans and up and coming companies is really cool. Making chocolate is hard, laborious, and time consuming work and I am willing to shell out a bit more for some delicious bars that I can't find in my area!
