There isn’t a traditional information card with this box. This month the challenge is to make a bracelet with a Western feel.
A note on prices: Items like this can come from a variety of different suppliers at many price points depending on how many you buy, etc. Even different colors of the same size and shape of glass beads are priced differently due to materials needed to make the colors! So I have opted not to provide prices in this review.
6 Brown Ceramic Melons
The material here is just a guess since the information card never says. When I get a small number of matching beads like this, I usually instantly think “bracelet.”
2 Ceramic Teardrops
Again, the material is a guess. Perhaps not surprisingly, getting a pair of beads like this makes me think of earrings.
6 Red Stone Beads
I don’t know what these are made of but I find them fascinating. They’re quite heavy, so they’re probably real stone, I just don’t know what kind.
Green Glass Rounds
These guys might not all have made it into the picture, they were rolling everywhere on me. I think they would go well with the brown “melons” above.
Silver Finish Stars
It’s always good to have a collection of accent beads hanging around. These can work in lots of different ways. I made them into dangles with headpins but you could also just string them.
Silver Finish Rounds with Heart Pattern
These are nice to use as spacers; the pattern gives them a bit more texture and character than a plain silver-tone round. Note for these as well as the stars: I have no idea what the actual metal used in these is.
Strand of Orange Rounds
At first I thought these were the odd bead out, but they actually provide a nice contrast with the turquoise (see below).
Brown Cord
I often find that the stringing materials from Blueberry Cove Beads call out to me a few months down the road. So I will hang on to this.
2 Silver Flower Drops/Charms
If I can find some more drops or charms of a similar size, I think these would look good in a charm bracelet.
Strand of Turquoise Rounds
A good standby for a Western-themed box. I don’t wear a lot of turquoise but I should, since related colors appear in my wardrobe often.
Turquoise Focal Oval
For me, this is a nice size for a focal bead. I don’t typically wear huge statement necklaces, but prefer more delicate centerpieces. I think this could work in that context.
Strand of Turquoise Chips
I used pretty much all of these in my project this month. I first had visions of some grand multi-strand design but I wanted you to see the review before the end of the year, so I did a memory wire bracelet instead.
I made a quick memory wire bracelet with some of the beads from this month. I made little dangles for the ends with a couple of the silver stars.
And here is a cat picture just for the heck of it.
Verdict: I did not calculate a value for this box, as explained above in my note about prices. I am sure that if you are buying wholesale, you could get a better deal. But then you would end up with pounds of the same type of bead. I think everything fit the theme pretty well and I’m happy that I’ll be able to make quite a few different pieces with this month’s beads (not all of which will be overtly Western). In the end, you are basically paying between $1 and $2 per item, which I think is pretty good (especially considering this ships from Canada).
Please note that no directions are given and you have to supply your own needles, stringing materials, tools, and findings.
