Blockhead Box is a new subscription box from Fight4Them, which is an organization of dog lovers and combat athletes working to prevent dog fighting and animal cruelty. Expect chews, toys, and treats for your dog as well as clothing and other gear for dog owners. And feel good knowing that a portion of all proceeds to charities, rescues, and humane law enforcement! Toys and chews are designed especially for bully breeds and heavy chewers and this is their very first box.

My dog, Nyx, is a Rottweiler, so according to some lists (and insurance companies), she is a bully breed. When I lived in my condo, her best friends were bully breeds. And there have been lots of bully breeds in my family in the past including boxers, English bulldogs, and a Bull Mastiff, so this box was definitely of interest to me both in terms of products and the causes it supports.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The box came with this information card. There was also a legal disclaimer, which is something I haven’t seen before, but not necessarily a bad idea – and a good reminder that you need to pay careful attention to your dog when he or she has any new toy!

There was also a card with more information on the FurBridge charity.

Orbee-Tuff Diamond Plate Double Tuff with Treat Spot from Planet Dog (large, silver) – Value $16.95

This has a similar principle to the original KONG but the material is slightly different. It is supposed to be mint-scented (did not try to sniff it) and it is also supposed to bounce, although we played with it on carpet. It has a hole in the bottom so I put some of Nyx’s food in there (she has to eat wet food) and she had a good old time licking it out.

Yak-9 Dog Chew (8 oz, for dogs up to 150 lbs) – Value $20

This is 100% hard yak cheese. And whew, does it have a smell. Nyx was trying to get into this box even before I opened it. This has no cow’s milk, no added preservatives, and no GMOs and is supposed to be safe for dogs with allergies. I think I will let Nyx chew on this for awhile and see how she does with it. If it doesn’t aggravate her IBD, I would totally buy more of them at 20 bucks a pop.

Blockhead Box T-Shirt – Value $15?

This style is not available in the Fight4Them store, so I don’t really know how to value it. But, I do need some new t-shirts as mine are not in the greatest shape (many are 15+ years old…).

Air Popped Dogkorn, Bacon Flavor (2 oz) – Value $3.49

I don’t see this bacon flavor in the Dogkorn Etsy shop, but that is how much they are selling the other flavors for. This is 100% whole grain and is air popped (thus has no added fat). It is a good source of fiber, as well, and may be helpful as a low-calorie treat for dogs who need to lose weight.

Shorty’s Gourmet Treats All Natural Organic Sweet Potato Wooffles – Value $6.50

These are made with locally (in California) grown sweet potatoes that are boiled and pureed by hand and contain no salt, soy, sugar, preservatives, byproducts, artificial colors, or artificial flavors. I am really loving how allergy-friendly the treats in this box are turning out to be.

I love the look on her face here.

And here are a few shots of Nyx trying to get the rest of her food out of the toy.

Verdict: I calculated a value of almost $62 for the July Blockhead Box. That is a great value, especially for a subscription that’s just starting out. I thought the box was really well curated, overall – I had no idea I’d be discovering new independent/Etsy-based dog treat makers, and I really liked how the treats were allergy-friendly. I also like that some of the proceeds are going to charity. The toy seemed pretty tough, as well. Overall, I think this was a great box.

Ragan out of all the dog boxes which one would you recommend for a young puppy (8 weeks old) ???

Nyx is such a handsome fella!! My two pit bulls might just be receiving their own sub box. I’ve been thinking about bark box, but I noticed lots of stuffed toys and just like your pup, they “love them” a little too fast. These toys look a little more durable. Thanks for the awesome review and photos! 🙂

I agree! My two pittie mixes would destroy the Barkbox toys in 2 minutes flat! This box is just what I was looking for! 😉

Oh gosh, my girl destroys stuffed toys in no time! We once got her a new toy and took a nap. 1.5 hours later, the stuffed elephant was in shreds, the stuffing strewn all around the room. She had fun, me not so much trying to clean it up!!

1.5 hours? Try 30 seconds! I have to watch Nyx like a hawk to make sure she doesn’t start eating the stuffing…

I have a 3/4 rottweiler 1/4 black lab mix… he looks like a gigantic black lab with a block head. He is the best dog ever and he would love this!

I’m really excited about this box! I have two pit bull mixes (95 lbs and 60 lbs) that were rescues. I love that it is curated for bully breeds and a portion of the proceeds goes to charitable and law enforcement organizations that support these breeds.

Cute idea. I’ll need to keep an eye on this – we have a 75 lb American Bulldog/AmStaff mix and boy does she like to chew!

Nyx’s best friend from back in my condo days was half American Bulldog. He and his owner moved to Michigan. We miss him!
