UniversalYums-May-2016-Card

Universal Yums includes a booklet that lists all of the items in the box.

The booklet includes trivia and other fun info.

Universal Yums also details the ingredients of each item on their website.

UniversalYums-May-2016-Chips

Tottis Bread Chips

These garlicky bread chips are very similar to bagel chips. They even have a hole in the middle!

Tottis Oregano Chips

Potato chips are a regular addition to Universal Yums boxes, and I think it’s a lot of fun to taste different varieties from around the world. These chips are tasty, but I didn’t pick up a strong oregano flavor.

UniversalYums-May-2016-Serenata

Serenata Max Croissant- $6

I struggle sometimes with packaged pastries like this. (There’s nothing better than a fresh croissant, and I can’t help compare the two!) My husband was happy to take this off my hands, though, and he seemed to really enjoy it.

Pavlidou Dark Chocolate Orange Bar- $2.66

Orange and chocolate is one of my favorite combinations, so this bar was a most welcome sight! The chocolate was high-quality, and the addition of orange peel was delicious.

UniversalYums-May-2016-Mikio

Mikio Mini Breadsticks with Sundried Tomato and Kalamata Olives- $1.29

These mini breadsticks were so good! They’re crunchy and rich, and the olive flavor was present without being overpowering. (I didn’t taste much tomato, though.)

Orino Soft Nougat with Peanuts Bar- $3.49

The nougat in this bar is very soft and marshmallowy. I liked this bar quite a lot, and I thought the peanuts added a nice texture and flavor.

UniversalYums-May-2016-Tea

Krocus Herbal Tea with Mint, Lemongrass, and Saffron (BONUS ITEM!)- $1.02

Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world (every flower produces only three strands of saffron, and they must be hand harvested). I’ve never had saffron tea before, but I’m a big fan. The combination of mint, lemongrass, and saffron is really interesting.

Serenata Wafer

Serenata Wafers are the best selling candy bars in Greece! They consist of wafer cookies layered with chocolate cream and milk chocolate.

UniversalYums-May-2016-Mez

Mez Rose Pastilles

I love rose-flavored candies (I’m looking at you, Turkish delight), so I was very excited to receive these rose pastilles. They’re thick and gummy, and the rose flavor is rather potent.

Ion Noisetta

These hazelnut candies are really tasty. They have a milk chocolate coating and an entire hazelnut in the center.

Pavlidis Gioconda Dark Chocolate Bites

I love the Mona Lisa packaging of these chocolates! They taste like hazelnut truffles.

Krinos Ouzo Candy

Ouzo is the most popular drink in Greece, and these candies share the liquor’s anise flavor.

UniversalYums-May-2016-Next

On the back of the information card, Universal Yums provides a clue to the next month’s destination. It sounds like next month’s box will feature items from the US!

Verdict: I discovered a lot of new treats in this month’s Universal Yums box. Standout items for me were definitely the rose pastilles and orange chocolate bar. It’s always difficult to determine a value for boxes from Universal Yums (since not all of the items are available for sale online), but I feel they do a pretty good job of sending full boxes packed with treats I wouldn’t necessarily be able to find locally.

What? Chocofreta by ION is the best selling chocolate bar, eventhough Serenata is well know as well! Plus, most Greeks don’t even know the garlic rings and the potato chips it was includes! Local brands in chips are e.x. Tsakiris! Try these if you can;)
Rose pastilles are my favorites too- these ones have amazing flavor!

I love this sub, but I’ve placed this and Japan Crate on hold for now. It’s so darn hot down here, and whenever I get chocolate items sent, they’re melted. So alas… It’ll be at least September before I get another box from either of them.

Universal Yums said they would not be sending any chocolate candy during the summer months.

June’s box didn’t have any meltables, trying to remember to last summer, I think they’re mindful about these kind of things, if you’re concerned email them or facebook message they are are so great about responding, and listening to concerns, its probably a bit tricky for them to decide when to start this since where I am ( Virginia) its usually June before heat’s a super big problem, but somewhere like Florida or Texas would be concerned about this in May if not late April.
