SoBakeable-June-2016-Brochure

This month’s recipe is for S’more Cupcakes! I received a full-color booklet with detailed recipe instructions.

SoBakeable-June-2016-Brochure2

The ingredients needed for every step of the recipe were clearly outlined, and the recipe was detailed, well-written, and easy to follow. Color pictures accompanied every step.

SoBakeable recipes are designed “for the beginner to the advanced baker.” Since I bake professionally, I thought it would be helpful to try out this recipe with someone less experienced. My husband jumped at the opportunity to help try out this recipe, and I let him take the lead on it.

My box also contained a handwritten note with an invitation to check out SoBakeable’s video tutorials on the SoBakeable App.

SoBakeable-June-2016-Fireworks

To begin, we made “chocolate fireworks” that would eventually be used as toppings for the cupcakes. We melted chocolate in the microwave, transferred it into a piping bag, and drew chocolate shapes onto parchment.

SoBakeable-June-2016-Fireworks2

SoBakeable included a piping guide that we slid underneath the parchment. We topped each firework with crushed graham cracker and pretzel pieces. When they were ready, we put them in the fridge to set while we made the cupcakes.

SoBakeable-June-2016-Cupcakes

My husband had no problem following the cupcake recipe, and the pre-portioned ingredients helped it come together really quickly. We used our own eggs, butter, and milk, but everything else was included in the box.

After the cupcakes were baked and cooled, we used the provided coring tool to hollow out the cupcakes’ centers. (I’ve always just used a knife when doing this, but the coring tool worked really well.)

SoBakeable-June-2016-Ganache

Next, we melted chocolate with milk and butter and stirred until everything melted together.

We then spooned the ganache into the cupcake holes.

SoBakeable-June-2016-Frosting

To make the frosting, we whipped butter with “frosting mix,” marshmallow essence, and bits of toasted coconut.

We divided the frosting evenly between the 12 cupcakes and smoothed it out using the back of a spoon.

Lastly, we topped each cupcake with one of the “chocolate fireworks.”

I’m so impressed with how they turned out!

SoBakeable-June-2016-FinishedCupcakes3

My husband and I had a blast making these cupcakes together, and I’m really impressed with the recipe. I definitely feel like it was easy enough for a beginner (my husband didn’t have any trouble following it), but that it was interesting and unique enough to excite an expert, too.

SoBakeable-June-2016-FinishedCupcakes4

Best of all? These cupcakes were DELICIOUS. The cake was moist and soft, the ganache was rich and super chocolaty, the frosting was flavorful with a great consistency, and the chocolate topping was creative and beautiful. I’m so impressed!

Verdict: I don’t think I can say enough great things about this box from SoBakeable. First of all, I think S’mores Cupcakes are a great choice for summer. The recipe was well-written and easy to follow, and the completed cupcakes were outstanding. Determining value for a box like this is tricky, but I know that in my city professional bakery cupcakes go for about $3- $3.50 each. That’s a range of $36-$42 per dozen. (Filled cupcakes might cost even more, actually.) I think these cupcakes are definitely on par with (if not better than) the ones I can buy in cupcake shops, and there’s definitely something satisfying about making great food yourself at home. I can definitely recommend this box for avid home bakers, dessert lovers, and even for kids. While the recipes are fairly detailed, I think kids with an interest in baking could definitely tackle them with a little adult supervision.

I gave my wife a subscription for Mother’s Day & she has really enjoyed spending quality time baking with our children. The box is filled to the brim with the packaged ingredients & we have already used the cupcake corer, piping bag & tip (from a previous box) again. The ingredients they provide are top quality which means that the desserts look & taste really great. Our family loves SoBakeable!

This looks like so much fun!! Such a great idea to pre-portion everything, saves so much time & that’s the worst part of baking. I hate having to go to the store to buy an entire box of baking powder for just 1 teaspoon. I love that the shipping is free and that you get new tools to try in every box. What a treat! Just ordered my first box – can’t wait 🙂

Wow, those really look amazing but I think a little expensive for what you get. I feel like they should have also provided the cupcake pan or some other tool to make it worth it. Or even fancier liners! Maybe the ingredients are premium though? Still, I couldn’t justify the price.

Vegan Chef ❤️

Waaaaaaaay too expensive for something you have to supply incidents for and MAKE yourself.

They look delicious though!

Virginia

This is a little pricey but it seems like they included really quality ingredients (that could be expensive to buy if you just needed them for this recipe) and I love that they included the cupcake coring tool! Fun box

Agree with you completely Virginia.

It does look like a fun way to bond with your family. I know while getting the ingredients myself would cost less, my daughter would love the anticipation of waiting on and receiving the box, and the surprise to see what the month’s recipe was going to be.

Fantastic concept!
