Sew Sampler includes a block 'recipe' card for a quilt each month.  They put it this way:  "Each month you will also receive a Block Recipe to make a quilt block with three size options; 8”, 12” and 16”. Collect all twelve of the recipe cards plus a bonus card with instructions for putting them all together in an adorable quilt! We even have a special fat quarter bundle available for these blocks."

I decided to go in full force with the quilt blocks and purchased fabric for a full quilt.  I will say that it is a little frustrating for an inexperienced quilter to try to guess how much fabric you need for the full quilt, since it isn't indicated on the cards.  It has been a fun experience so far though!

The picture above is my work in progress (sorry for the terrible lighting), and you can see my completed quilt block from last month and my quilt block from this month at the bottom of the post!

SS4

Sew Easy Tweezers by Elisa's Backporch Design - $8.98

Some people will think "Tweezers?  For Sewing?"  Yes my friend.  Just wait until you try to thread a Serger without them!  These are specifically designed for quilters and crafters with their pin point ends.  Perfect for threading and doing all those other intricate tasks that sewing requires!

Bobbini Bobbin Holder by Smartneedle - $10.98

These are genius.  They are a rubbery, flexible material, so they fit down inside the top of your thread spools.  Then you put your bobbin on top of that, so you keep your colored bobbin and thread together - seriously - this is amazing.

Aurifil White Thread - Value $5.00

I received 440 yards of this thread, that is 50 weight.  It is cotton, and Fat Quarter Shop says that it is "perfect for piecing."  I'm not sure what all that means yet, but I am always glad to have more thread!  They also offer a monthly subscription for Aurifil Thread here.

SS5

Bonus! Cute Little Buttons by Lori Hold of Bee in my Bonnet - Value $2.00

I received a little package of buttons - it looks like they will be a part of a Christmas "sew along" starting in August!

Exclusive Cozy Holiday Tablerunner Pattern - Value 15.00?

I can't find this pattern online.  This looks like it would be a super fun project to give as a holiday gift!  If you like to take a hostess gift to Christmas dinner, pretty sure you would win the day if you brought this.  Just saying.

Two Cozy Christmas 5" Stackers - Value 10.00?

I also can't find these online.  I did find 10" stackers here. The patterns here are super cute and would be awesome to incorporate into the tablerunner that they included in the box.  This is definitely the time to start working on Holiday projects, so I love that they sent them out in May!

SS6

Here are my two blocks so far - you can definitely tell that I am not an expert quilter.  There are misalignments, and they're not even the same size but I am having fun!

Verdict:  I am LOVING my Sew Sampler boxes from Fat Quarter Shop.  They are so fun and they include very useful items.  I have to say that my favorite thing is the new block each month, because it is a challenge and I can't wait to have enough to put together a quilt!  The value this month was about $70 from my estimates of the last two items, but Fat Quarter Shop has the value closer to $53.36, so I will defer to their value!  Either way, it definitely covers the cost of the box.  This is just a box full of awesome for anyone interested in quilting or sewing!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

Well done! You’ll get the hang of it. I wasn’t sure about this box until I saw the Christmas bonuses. Might be worth a try.

This looks like a really fun box! I like the mix of a monthly project, patterns, tools and supplies. I’ve always wanted to attempt quilting and this looks like a great way to dip your toes in. I also think it would be an incredible box to gift a few months to an avid sewer/quilter. Great review! I think your quilt blocks look great. Who cares about misalignments and size? You are learning and having fun! Love it!

Katie, thank you! I thought, I’m sure the experienced quilters started somewhere so I might as well just give it a shot! Lol.

I also think this one bridges the gap nicely between a beginner and an experienced quilter/seamstress!
