Rescue Box is a subscription box for dogs or cats.  For dogs, choose from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (20-50 pounds), and large (50+ pounds).  This is a review of the large dog box.  For reference, my dog Nyx is an 84-pound Rottweiler.  Rescue box is associated with Greater Good (the folks who brought you The Hunger Site, The Animal Rescue Site, and more) and your purchase of a subscription will help provide food and vaccines to shelter pets!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Included was an information card with more information about the items in the box.  There was also a second card with more information on The Rescue Box’s charity efforts.

Apple and Carrots Big Bone by Wet Noses – Value $1.25

This is free of wheat, soy, dairy, and corn, which is awesome.  And it really does have apples and carrots.  These are non-GMO if that is of concern to you, and all Wet Noses treats are produced at a small facility outside Seattle.

Low-Odor 6” Bully Sticks by RescueBox (3 count) – Value $5.21

Nyx has done all right with beef in the past.  I am in the process of adjusting her medication right now, but if she is stable after a week or two, I will try giving one these to her (oh, the joys of having an IBD dog).  Note: the link is to a similar item but not exactly the same, since these were exclusive to the box.

Firehose Squeak n’ Fetch by Outward Hound – Value $5.99 (on sale for $3.99)

I’m pretty sure we’ve had this exact toy in the past.  Nyx loved it but of course it didn’t last long.  Still, she had fun for awhile!

Giant Squeak Tuff Ball by PetSport USA – Value $8.19

Nyx likes tennis balls.  Her favorite activity is to pick the green coating off them.  She hasn’t destroyed this one yet.  Plus, it squeaks (and her mouth is big enough to make it squeak!).

Paws Galore Insulated Cup by The Animal Rescue Site – Value $12.95

This is cute and appears to be high quality.  Sometimes when I drive around running errands, I would really like some iced tea, and this will be perfect for that.  I didn’t see this exact tumbler on the site, but there were a lot of very similar items so I took the price from those.

Here are a few shots of Nyx with her toy.  Naturally she chewed a hole in the outer material, but it took her a few minutes, at least.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $31.59 for May’s Rescue Box.  That basically breaks even with the cost of the subscription.  It doesn’t deliver on the promised $40 value, but some of the values on the information card were a bit inflated.  (On the other hand, some of the prices quoted above are sale prices.)  I thought the toys were size appropriate, which is key (we have gotten some seriously inappropriate toys for a large breed dog in other subscriptions lately) and I like that all the treats were made in the USA.  I also like knowing that my subscription helps support shelter animals (Mr. Kitty was born at a shelter!).

I really wish there was a dog box for those on limited ingredient diets. My dog is allergic to everything and it’s not worth the “mess” or her discomfort to try things that aren’t specifically for sensitive tummies. But she would LOVE getting new toys to destroy on the regular.

Title says there is a coupon, but I’m not seeing one?

Oh, my 90 pound, 10 month old Berner puppy would love this box!! I want to subscribe to something for him since he loves toys (and loves to destroy them), but have been debating between the different one. This is one of the most appealing I’ve seen though, in terms of the types of toys/treats he likes. (Just like Nyx, he loves to pull the green fuzzy coating off of tennis balls.)

Was there a coupon code in this post? I read twice and could not find it – may just be unobservant! Thanks!

Thanks for the review! I had seen this box recently and was curious as to what kinds of items would be in this sub. Might watch a couple months before subscribing, but I really like that it’s affiliated with the Greater Good network.

Oh Nyx is so cute 🙂

And are the “low odor” bully sticks really low odor? I don’t have a dog, but my mom and best friend do and we all agree that they do not smell good at all (trying to say it in the nicest way possible)

I like that this box helps shelters ?… my BeBe is from a shelter so I’m always happy to see support for animal shelters
